Home Remedy For Burn Pain

Whether your burn is the result of too much time spent in the summer sun or a slipped curling iron, it still can be a source of severe pain. Even the smallest of burns can be excruciating. Luckily, most minor burns are easy to treat and their pain can be managed through simple at-home procedures.

Cool the Burn

Upon receiving a burn, the first thing that should be done to relieve the pain and prevent further damage is to run the burn under cool (not cold) water. By simply running cool water from a tap or submerging the burn completely, you will not only cool the burned tissue and prevent further injury, but you will bring significant pain relief to the area.

Take an Analgesic

After cooling the burn with water, you may want to take an over the counter analgesic such as Tylenol or Advil. While these pain relievers won't completely numb the pain, they can reduce the pain and make it more manageable.

If you still need pain relief after an over the counter pill, you may wish to purchase a special spray or salve from the drugstore that's made specifically for burns. An excellent choice is a product called Dermalast, which is a lidocaine-based spray that can be applied to the burn to numb the skin. Solarcaine, another over the counter numbing spray, is designed specifically for sunburn, although it may be used on all first-degree (nonblistering) burns.

Simple Remedies for Burn Pain

Other relief options include using a eucalyptus or menthol-based cold cream such as Noxema and applying it to the burned area leaving it on for several minutes and then washing it off with cool water. The chemicals in the cream leave the skin feeling cool and refreshed and the oils in the product keep the skin hydrated, which is important in the healing process.

A simple spray of diluted white vinegar or cool water infused with fresh lemon juice also can offer burn relief.

And aloe vera gel which is derived naturally from the aloe plant, can be purchased at most pharmacies and is a natural way to relieve burn pain and keep your burned skin cool and hydrated. It also has a pleasant, mild smell and soaks readily into the skin.

If the area of your skin that's burned is very small, an ice pack can be applied to relieve pain and reduce possible swelling. Once the pain is manageable, keep the burn moisturized with hand lotion or a small amount of petroleum jelly as burns can dehydrate the skin which delays healing.

Use A Defibrillator

Use a Defibrillator

Sudden cardiac arrest claims 400,000 each year in the United States alone. It's the cause of more than half the deaths from heart disease. SCA occurs when the heart's electrical impulses no longer generate a capable heartbeat. If left untreated, ventricular fibrillation will cause brain death in just four to six minutes. 90 percent of SCA victims die from lack of treatment. The chances of successful defibrillation decline by about ten percent a minute of delay. In an effort to increase the odds of a victim's survival lightweight portable Automated External Defibrillators, AED's, have been installed on airplanes, in retirement communities and on campuses. AED's deliver a powerful electrical shock to the heart that restores normal heart beat. It should only be used with SCA that doesn't respond to Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, CPR. Here's use one.

Instructions

1. Switch on the defibrillator. Some AEDs may automatically switch on when the AED lid is opened. Others have an easy to identify green button. If more than one rescuer is present, continue CPR until the shock is administered

2. Remove the victims' shirt or blouse, watch, rings and jewelry. Check for piercings and remove all studs.

3. Apply the electrode pads to the chest according the diagram displayed on the machine. Place one on the upper right side of the chest, the other on the lower left.

4. Stop CPR. Plug the electrode pads into the connector. The defibrillator will analyze the patient's heart beat and asses the need for a shock. During this process do not touch the patient.

5. If the AED determines that a shock is needed, the machine will tell you audibly to deliver a shock by pressing the orange button. Yes, it is useful to say "Clear" prior to doing so, since no rescuers should be in contact with the patient at this time. The machine will examine the victim's heart beat to see if another shock is needed. If it is, you'll be told to press the orange button again. Some AED's will administer the shocks automatically as needed.

6. Check the victim's breathing and pulse. If the heart has resumed beating, but the patient is not breathing, resume CPR. If there is no pulse, repeat the defibrillation process.

Chinese Exercises For Belly Fat

Chinese abdominal exercises should be performed on an empty stomach.

Chinese practitioners of traditional holistic exercise perform weight loss moves to reduce belly fat. Chinese medicine espouses the theory that unblocking the body's meridians (channels) will raise the body's metabolism and help burn fat naturally. Chinese abdominal exercises aid in burning belly fat by employing "lift, hold and release" actions that are effective in reducing abdominal sag while massaging the abdominal wall and abdominal organs. Perform the following exercises on an empty stomach.

Abdominal Lift

Finish ab lifts with hands raised and in front of you.

Stand erect with your feet shoulder-width apart. Placing your hands above each knee, place your fingers on the inside of each leg. Strongly exhale through your mouth to empty lungs. Without taking in a breath, immediately employ your abdominal muscles, lifting the abdomen up and back toward your spine. Lift as high as you comfortably can and hold for five to 10 seconds, still not breathing in. Slowly relax your abdominal wall, allowing everything to fall back into place, then take a deep breath. Repeat two or three times as a beginner and build to five or six rounds. After the final round, stand upright, allowing your arms to hang loosely at your sides. Raise both arms in front of and above your head simultaneously, taking a deep breath. Stretch as high as you can comfortably. Hold your breath for a few seconds, feeling the stretch in your abs. Bring your arms back to your side, gently exhaling.

Forward-Backward Bend

Bend as far forward as your comfortably can.

The forward-backward bend stretches the front and back of your abdominals aiding in your body's natural balance. Throughout these movements, stand with your feet hip-width apart and arms hanging at your side. Slowly bend forward until your chin almost touches your chest and continue to bend farther forward, concentrating on a progression through your upper back, mid back and lower back. Continue to hang at the deepest bend, take three deep breaths and allow the release of all tension. Feel the stretch in your back and legs and the blood flowing to your head. Tighten your belly when exhaling and relax on the inhale. Take a fourth breath, slowly roll up imagining your spine rolling up a wall. Keep your weight on the front of your feet. Next, to stretch the abdominals, slowly raise your arms in front of you, taking one long breath. As you raise up, lift your head back and arch your spine in one smooth motion, arching your spine as far as you comfortably can. Take three slow, deep breaths and feel the stretch in your arms and abs. On the third breath, begin to straighten your body while spreading your arms to your sides and, ultimately, to the starting position at your sides. This is one complete round. As a beginner, perform three rounds, building to 10 or 12 rounds.

Toe Circles

Lie flat on your back without a pillow, arms at your sides, palms down and feet together. Breathe slowly and deeply, raising both feet six inches and keeping legs straight. Point toes and move your feet in 2 or 3 small circles, clockwise and counter-clockwise. Lower feet to mattress and repeat 2 or 3 times, ultimately building to 10 or 12 rounds.

What Is Adhd Caused By

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder affects 2 to 3 percent of children and adults. There are a great many unknowns surrounding ADHD, but research has made several important discoveries.

Causes of ADHD

Research has shown a decreased electrical activity in frontal areas of the brain of ADHD patients. This area controls the ability to concentrate and control impulses. There is also a reduced blood flow to this area.

Specific Causes

While it is known the decreased electrical activity is the cause of ADHD, it is not clear as to the cause of the decrease. With less electrical activity, less blood flow is required. It is possible the reduced blood flow results in lower electrical activity.

Treatment

ADHD symptoms can be controlled in many patients by stimulants. Stimulants increase the blood flow to the frontal area of the brain, helping the patient concentrate and resist impulsive behavior.

Types

Some patients have ADD, which has the same symptoms as ADHD except for hyperactivity. It is also possible for a patient to have only the hyperactivity element. When the patient has both elements, he is considered to have ADHD.

History

ADHD was long thought to be the result of a brain injury. It was then thought to be the result of a child having survived the influenza outbreak. Only recently was it discovered ADHD is not the result of injury or illness, but a disability caused by a biological condition in the brain. This has greatly changed the treatment and perception of ADHD patients.

Pack A Comfort Items Bag For Labor

Pack a Comfort Items Bag for Labor

There are many articles about pack your essentials bag for labor (nightgown, slippers and socks), but you also need to think about packing a specific comfort measures bag. This is a separate bag that has strictly comfort measure items in it. By packing a separate bag, your partner will know just where to find what you need. This is also helpful if you hire a doula or have family with you during your labor; they won't have to go through your personal belongings to find what you need. Here are some suggestions for putting together a comfort bag.

Instructions

1. Pack a pair of extra warm and soft socks/slippers. If you want to move around during labor, you will need something to pad your feet from the hard floor. If you choose to wear socks, make sure they have the non-skid pads on the bottom so that you won't slip.

2. Pack a focal point. This can be a picture of your other children, a portrait of you and your partner on your wedding day or any other picture that you'd like. You can also use any small item that holds significant value for you.

3. Bring a portable c.d. player with a great selection of music. You don't have to bring lullabies and soft music - bring whatever you like. Make sure that you also bring an extra pair of batteries in case it is a long labor.

4. Bring candy or mints to suck on. Many hospitals will not allow you to eat or drink in labor and your mouth can get very dry. Having a hard candy or mint can refresh your taste and keep your mouth moist. It can also keep your mind away from the contractions.

5. Bring lotion or oil for massages. You can bring scented lotion or oil, but remember that you will be very sensitive in labor and smells may or may not agree with you.

6. Pack lip balm. During labor your lips will get very dry. This is due to breathing more heavily than what you are used to and not having anything to drink. If you like a certain flavor, feel free to bring that too. Flavors such as coconut and pineapple can be used with imagery.

7. Bring a rolling pin or back massager. It is very common in labor to have back pains. Using a rolling pin on the back can put a decent amount of pressure on the back while alleviating some pain. If you find that a rolling pin is too uncomfortable, you can use a different kind of back massager.

8. Pack a handheld personal fan. During transition it is common to experience hot and cold flashes within the same few minutes. It is much easier and faster to have a personal fan if you begin to experience hot flashes than to wait for the air conditioner to cool things off.

9. Bring a birthing ball. Birthing balls are extremely helpful in labor. You can use them for relaxation purposes or for a softer seat in the shower. You can find a birthing ball at any retail or sporting goods store.

10. Pack a rice sock. Rice socks are easy to make and come in handy when you need heat in a certain area.

11. Bring aromatherapy scents/oils. Scents like lavender, chamomile, rose and peppermint are usually relaxing during labor. You can use these scents alone or to enhance your imagery experience.

Tea Tree Soap

Tea tree soap is made with tea tree oil, which comes from the tea tree, found in Australia. The medicinal, antiseptic and therapeutic qualities of tea tree oil have been known for centuries. Those qualities make it very useful in a soap.

The Tea Tree

The tea tree, not to be confused with the tea bush, is found in coastal eastern Australia. Tea tree oil in made by crushing the leaves and forming an extract, which can be used in its original form or added to soaps, lotions and shampoos.

Qualities of Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a potent antiseptic. It has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of skin conditions and disorders, which is why soaps and shampoos made using it are becoming increasingly popular.

Tea Tree Soap

Tea tree soap is becoming widely available and therefore less expensive. It's an effective treatment for dry skin, seborrhea and topical itching. As a shampoo, it can help alleviate scalp problems, including dandruff and sebaceous cysts.

Comparison with Topical Antibiotics

Tea tree oil applications have been shown to be as effective as low-strength topical antibiotics, albeit with slower reaction times. Tea tree oil is, however, mildly toxic in large doses (as are many topical antibiotics; in either case, it's a good idea to consult a physician before using any such products).

Where to Find Tea Tree Soap

Any natural foods grocery should have a good selection of tea tree oil-based cosmetic products. Tea tree shampoos and soaps can also be found on the shelves of major retailers.

Treat Neuritis & Neuralgia

Neuritis is an inflammatory condition that affects the nerves and produces pain along nerve channels, or neuralgia. Many things can trigger neuritis and neuralgia, including nerve compression due to injury, periodontal disease, diabetes, shingles and other viral infections. The pain can also be of unspecific origin and impact any part of the body. While neuralgia isn't considered a disease in itself, it is considered an underlying symptom of another condition. In order to successfully treat neuritis and neuralgia, it is necessary to track down the root cause.

Instructions

Treatment Options

1. Make an appointment with your dentist if the pain is occurring along your jaw line or face. This condition, known as trigeminal neuralgia, is usually associated with an abscess or impacted bone that is causing pressure on surrounding nerves. Remedial intervention of either should put an end to your suffering.

2. Schedule an appointment with your physician if you are experiencing pain anywhere else on your body. This condition, called postherpetic neuralgia, is characterized by a burning or "pins and needles" sensation of the skin and often follows a bout with shingles. In fact, the pain typically generates from the same location that shingles blisters initially broke out.

3. Discuss the possibility of undergoing physical therapy with your health care practitioner if your neuritis and related neuralgia stems from a muscle or joint injury near the affected area. Engaging in certain exercises under the supervision of a trained therapist may improve blood and oxygen supply to the affected nerves and help to reduce inflammation and pain.

4. Find out if you might be a candidate for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), which involves the targeted delivery of short, electrical impulses to nerve channels. Some physicians and physical therapists think that this treatment promotes an increased production of endorphins, one of the hormones that regulate pain signals in the brain.

5. Consider using natural treatments for your neuritis and neuralgia, such as a topical cream containing capsaicin, which is derived from chili peppers. Although this agent can produce burning and tingling sensations when applied to skin at first, the numbing effect may be beneficial in the long-term.

6. Try using over-the-counter pain medications to curb pain, such as aspirin or ibuprofen. There are also prescription pain medications available, but keep in mind that these may become addictive over time.

7. Talk to your doctor about advanced medical interventions, if necessary, particularly if your neuritis and neuralgia are related to nerve damage from severe physical trauma. Options include surgery, corticosteroid injections, and medication with serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), otherwise known as tricyclic antidepressants.

Early Puberty In Girls

Puberty usually occurs in girls between ages ten and fourteen. Early on-set is called precocious puberty.

Symptoms

Precocious puberty presents with the same physical and emotional changes as puberty at an older age. The first sign is usually breast development, followed by public hair growth and acne.

Disadvantages

There are usually no long lasting effects to precocious puberty. The biggest concern is that early growth spurts could lead to being shorter than average as an adult.

Causes

Seventy-five percent of precocious puberty cases have no underlying medical reason. On set is triggered by hormones. In most cases, the pituitary gland just begins producing hormones at an earlier age than average. In extremely rare cases, a tumor of the pituitary gland or hypothalamus may be to blame.

Treatment

Treatment, if necessary is possible. If a tumor is not the underlying cause, hormones can be prescribed to temporarily delay the on-set of puberty.

Side Effects

Side effects of hormones are minimal. Once the medication is stopped, puberty will start again as normal. While on the hormones, frequent check-ups with a physician are necessary to monitor growth and hormone levels.

Support

Most children find it difficult to be considered different. If your daughter is experiencing early puberty, be honest and open with her about what is going on. Be sure to let her act her age, not the age she looks.

Early Herpes Symptoms

The medical community estimates 50% to 80% of adults have oral herpes such as cold sores and fever blisters, and 20% of Americans have genital herpes. Almost 90% of people with genital herpes don't know they are infected.

Types

The two types of herpes are Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1), which causes sores on the lips and mouth (sometimes genital), and Herpes simplex type 2 (HSV-2), which causes genital herpes.

Considerations

Symptoms can be different from person to person. Some people experience no early symptoms, while others have painful sores. The first outbreak is the worst, and outbreaks occur less often and are less severe as years go on.

Identification

Either oral or genital herpes may cause itching or burning at the site of infection and flu-like symptoms with a first outbreak of the virus. Both will usually lead to blisters or open sores.

Identification

Genital herpes can also be detected by painful urination and genital area discharge.

Warning

Like with many illnesses, symptoms vary from person to person and infection doesn't only happen when sores are present. Asymptomatic Transmission, or "shedding," can occur while the virus is dormant in the nervous system.

Home Remedies For Plantars Warts

Plantar warts are caused by the HPV or human papillomavirus, and occur on the soles of your feet or your toes. Plantar warts tend to be thicker and more rough in texture than regular warts because of the callused areas of the feet on which they generally occur. Plantar warts are contagious and can multiply on your feet, or spread to your hands or other areas of your body. There are several home remedies you can use to get rid of plantar warts before getting the help of a doctor to remove them.

Duct Tape

Plantar warts can be removed easily and inexpensively with duct tape. Clean the afflicted area thoroughly with antibacterial soap and dry it carefully. Cut a piece of duct tape that covers the afflicted area and overlaps at least one inch on each side. Place the piece of duct tape directly over the warts. Leave the tape on for one week, then remove the tape. The warts should peel off with the tape. If not, place another piece of tape in the same place and leave on for one more week and peel off again.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix one part apple cider vinegar and one part water in a large plastic dish. Seal it and leave the dish in the bathroom. Before you shower, open the dish and place it on your bath mat. When you get out of the shower, dip your foot in the apple cider vinegar and soak it for approximately one minute. Dry your foot off but do not rinse. Repeat every day as you get out of the shower. Eventually, the wart will diminish in size, then disappear completely.

Wait It Out

The average life cycle of a wart is between one and two years, so if you have already had your wart for close to a year, it may not be worth the time and money to get it removed especially by a doctor. Warts are not usually itchy or painful, and they do not create any additional medical problems, so there is no harm in waiting for your wart to disappear on its own.

Determine Killer Bees

Africanized Killer Bees can kill whole honey bee populations.

Africanized Killer Bees are more aggressive than any other variety of bee. It is in this aspect that they are the most dangerous of bees. They are dangerous to humans and other varieties of honey bees and have the ability to take over whole beehives and kill the queen. Properly identifying a killer bee is the first step to being properly protected against it.

Instructions

1. Take a good look at the bee. Experienced bee keepers can distinguish a killer bee easily, but it may not be so easy for those who lack experience. Killer bees are slightly smaller than European honey bees.

2. Observe the bee's behavior. Killer bees are far more aggressive than other species of bee. While honey bees will stay close to their hive to defend it, killer bees will swarm out of the hive and around an attacker. If bees are approaching you, it is best to assume they are killer bees, because they are more confrontational than other honey bees.

3. Count bee stings. If you were the unlucky victim of an attack by a bee swarm, you will easily know if the bees were honey bees or killer bees by the severity of the attack. An attack by a regular species of bee will result in significantly less stings than an attack by killer bees. An attack by killer bees may result in hundreds of stings.

Types Of Surgical Glue

Cyanoacrylate is a commonly used surgical glue.

Surgical glues (also called surgical sealants or adhesives) are used after a surgery or traumatic injury to bind together external or internal tissue. Surgical glues can be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to sutures and staples; they use a chemical bond to hold tissue together for healing or serve as a barrier to stop the flow of bodily fluids. The five main types of surgical glues are fibrin sealants, cyanoacrylates, collagen-based compounds, glutaraldehyde glues and hydrogels.

Fibrin Sealants

Fibrin sealants are a type of surgical adhesive derived from both human and animal (bovine) blood products. Ingredients in the fibrin sealant interact during application to form a clot made from the blood protein called fibrin. Fibrin sealants are effective for use in cardiovascular surgery, lung surgery and closure of the dural (a fibrous membrane covering the brain and spinal cord) and can be used to close spleen and liver lacerations.

Cyanoacrylates

Cyanoacrylates are surgical adhesive compounds that are used to close topical or minor lacerations. They are commonly used to close laparoscopic incisions and are much stronger than fibrin sealants and sutures. Cyanoacrylates are waterproof, flexible and require no dressing on the wound. Unfortunately, they are not bio-absorbable and must be restricted to external and temporary applications.

Collagen-Based Compounds

Collagen-based compounds are surgical adhesives made from bovine collagen, bovine thrombin or human plasma. Collagen-based compounds assist with coagulation by delivering fibrinogen to the wound area, which helps to control bleeding. Collagen-based adhesives are bio-absorbable and suitable for cardiovascular surgery, though further study is needed to assess long-term risks.

Glutaraldehyde Glues

Glutaraldehyde glues are compounds consisting of bovine albumin and a strong tissue adhesive. They can be used in the repair of aortic dissections to fill in the dissection area. This provides a strong arterial wall that assists in aortic repair. Glutaraldehyde bonds quickly, can withstand high pressures and is used primarily for internal surgeries. The long-term effects from exposure to glutaraldehyde glues is unknown.

Hydrogels

Hydrogels are synthetic polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymers commonly used in lung and thoracic surgery due to their ability to seal air leaks. Hydrogels are bio-absorbable and stronger than fibrin sealants. They are also photoactivated, meaning that the sealant sets with exposure to light, which can be a drawback in situations where a patient is hemorrhaging.

Causes Of Cold Feet

General Causes

The general causes of cold feet are: lack of adequate protection, getting the feet wet and poor circulation. Adequate protection usually falls into having the proper footwear or layers of footwear for the given weather conditions. This includes leather shoes and heavier socks. Worn out shoes and socks can easily cause cold feet as air and moisture can get between the feet and the protective wear. Moisture, especially outdoors, is always colder than body temperature. When the foot perspires, the moisture lowers in temperature to match the outdoor conditions. This in turn, causes the cold feet since the temperature is colder than your body. The final general cause is poor circulation. Poor circulation is an obvious cause of cold feet because of the decrease in normal blood flow to the feet; thereby causing a drop in temperature.

Medical Reasons

There are an estimated six out of every 100 people in America who suffer from cold feet. One of the main medical reasons for this is poor circulation as described above. There is another medical condition called Raynaud's Syndrome, which is closely related. With this condition, temperature decreases or stress increases cause small blood vessels in the body's extremities to spasm, thereby narrowing the passageway for blood, to a point where the blood can marginally circulate to the feet or hands. Another common medical condition that causes cold feet is Hypothyroidism. This condition is caused by an under active thyroid. Another condition is Peripheral Vascular Disease, which is a form of diabetes. This reduces blood sugar and blood flow to the extremities.

The Most Likely Reasons

The most likely reasons for the cause of cold feet have already been mentioned. The onset of a medical condition such as diabetes, or Raynaud's Syndrome, can usually be linked to improper health or stress levels. Poor circulation increases with the onset of a medical condition or age. Among the obvious general causes are the lack of foot care and either severe or sudden loss of body heat. Wet feet, broken bones and overexposure to cold are the main non-medical reasons. Any one of these three can cause cold feet and have the potential for frostbite in prolonged situations. Not wearing proper outerwear will cause the body to move blood to the vital organs to maintain proper levels; which will cause heat loss and coldness in the extremities as well.

What Is Armour Thyroid

Armour Thyroid is the brand name for a natural medication to treat the symptoms of low thyroid levels in the body (hypothyroidism). This medicine may be prescribed as beginning therapy for hypothyroidism or for those who haven't responded well to synthetic thyroid replacement.

Function

A combination of the thyroid hormones T4 (levothyroxine) and T3 (L-triiodothyronine) act as a replacement for those whose bodies are unable to properly regulate normal thyroid hormone levels.

Identification

Tablets are light tan, round, and identified with a mortar and pestle beneath the letter "A" on the top along with the specific strength. This medicine is made from natural pork thyroid glands (dried, powdered and compounded) and does not contain gluten or lactose as a filler.

Effects

When the body is unable to produce adequate levels of thyroid hormones naturally, the ability to regulate carbohydrates, fats, electrolytes and immune response can be compromised. Adding Armour Thyroid hormone replacement may correct these issues.

Warnings

Possible side effects include chest pain, increased pulse rate, heart palpitations, excessive sweating, intolerance to heat or nervousness. These may be signs your dosage needs adjustment. Please consult your doctor immediately.

Considerations

Do not stop taking your thyroid medication or switch medications unless told to do so by a doctor. Tell your doctor about any other drugs you are taking, including over-the-counter medications.

Prostate Health

If you're a man older than 40 years, you might be at risk for certain conditions related to the prostate gland. You should learn the warning signs and preventative measures that are taken to avoid a swollen prostate. Prostate health is an important issue with men because the prostate is a critical part of the body that is involved in many functions.

About the Prostate

The prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland, found around the urethra. The function of the prostate is to produce an alkaline-like substance that acts as a carrier for semen during ejaculation.

Changes

During a man's lifetime, the prostate gland changes in how it performs, as well as its appearance. During puberty, the gland will grow and swell, but usually ceases growth at sexual maturity.

Genders

Women do possess a sort of prostate gland, which was originally called the Skene's Gland. The female prostate gland functions similarly to the male prostate gland and is also an important part of the body.

Dietary

A proper diet is necessary in order to avoid complications of the prostate gland. Health care professionals recommend avoiding fatty food and eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Holistic health experts recommend herbal supplements such as ginger, which is a known diuretic.

Massage

Avoiding conditions such as prostate cancer is important, so some men opt for getting a prostate massage. This is achieved by a professional inserting either a finger or a smooth tool into the anus.

Exams

Getting a yearly prostate exam is necessary when you're approaching your 40s because this is the time when it's important to catch potential cancers in their early stages. Exams are carried out by the doctor inserting his or her finger into the anus and feeling the region for irregularities.

Activity

Remaining active decreases the chance of developing diseases such as prostate cancer and prostatitis. A 30-minute, daily exercise routine, paired with a proper diet, will keep your prostate healthy, along with the rest of your body.

Take Supplements That Decrease Breast Milk Production

Many mothers work hard to increase breast milk supply, but there are times when mothers may want to decrease breast milk production, such as weaning, medical conditions, medication issues or, in severe cases, the death of a baby. While there are supplements and foods that women can consume to reduce breast milk supply, it is important to know take these supplements. Improper approaches to reduced supply can cause unexpected health problems.

Instructions

1. Start with peppermint tea. Peppermint is a notorious anti-galactogogue and will help to reduce your breast milk supply. Drink at least 3, and up to 6, cups of peppermint tea each day.

2. Eat lots of cabbage. Cabbage is an anti-galactogogue as well, and if you are not providing breast milk to an infant, you do not have to worry about the gaseous properties that can pass into the breast milk. Do not eat too much cabbage; it can cause digestive distress for yourself! Also, take fresh cabbage leaves and place them inside your bra. Cover the entire breast. The cabbage leaves will help to reduce engorgement and decrease milk supply.

3. Drink "just enough" water. When you breastfeed, you drink extra water. If your body does not need to produce breast milk, don't provide it with the extra water. Drink no more than 64 oz. of water, juice and fluids per day.

4. Drink sage tea or eat sage as a spice in foods. You can buy sage capsules as well. Sage helps to dry up breast milk production.

5. Take an antihistamine, such as Benadryl or Claritin. Just as antihistamines dry up your sinuses, so too they dry up breast milk. Do not overdo antihistamines, however; take the recommended dose for allergies, and this should be enough to decrease breast milk supply.

Alternative Natural Chinese Healing Herbs

Alternative Natural Chinese Healing Herbs

Chinese medicine offers a number of alternative herbal remedies for medical conditions. Research into Chinese herbal remedies began over 3,500 years ago. Chinese medicine works on different philosophical principles than western medicine. It treats problems with the chi, or life force that is present in all living things and affects their physical condition. Most herbal remedies focus on either heating or cooling the overall chi balance.

Although best known as an aphrodisiac, cordyceps has often been prescribed as an anti-aging treatment, to build strength and to help the immune system. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is often used to protect the lungs and help reproductive organs. It helps with asthma and lung function.

Dong Quai

Dong quai is generally given to women, and is often viewed as the best herb for female reproductive health. It can help regulate menstruation, regulate hormones and help with symptoms of menopause. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is used for problems with the heart, speen, liver and kidneys. It is can also help relieve muscle spasms, such as those associated with menstruation.

Ephedra

Ephedra is probably best known because of diet pill controversies. Well-known extracts of this herb are ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine. However, ephedra, or ma huang in Chinese, it has been used for centuries for colds, coughs, hay fever and asthma. Traditional Chinese medical practitioners prefer that people use the entire stem of the plant to help dry sinuses and as a bronchial dilator. An interesting difference between the western extracts of this herb and the herb in its pure form is that ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine raise blood pressure, while the whole herb tends to lower blood pressure.

Gingko Biloba

Gingko biloba is derived from a tree that is considered a living fossil. This tree can be traced back over 250 million years. Gingko biloba is used in Chinese medicine for a large number of conditions, including respiratory issues and digestive problems. It also is recommended for poor circulation, dementia and depression. It is commonly used as a memory-enhancing herb and can help with tinnitus and vertigo.

Ginseng

Ginseng is one of the best-known Chinese medicinal herbs. Its use dates back further than almost all Chinese herbs, with references to its use as long as 5,000 years ago. Ginseng brings balance to the body and helps slow cellular degeneration associate with aging. It helps balance blood sugar and balances hormonal levels. Among other benefits traditional Chinese medicine lists are increasing muscle tone and function, reducing stress and fatigue, and boosting the immune system.

Do Schizophrenics Have Too Much Dopamine

Understanding the causes for any illness, including mental illness, is an important step into forming effective treatment protocols. While no person knows exactly why schizophrenia occurs, there are several bits of evidence that assist us in understanding this disorder. One of the more popular and controversial theories concerns the level of dopamine a person has and its role in the disorder. Understanding all of the elements that create schizophrenia is very important.

Significance

Dopamine is a very important chemical with regards to physiological functions and behavior. Understanding the role dopamine plays in schizophrenia is important to understanding the illness as a whole.

Antagonistic Drugs

Many antipsychotic drugs are dopamine antagonists, reducing the level of dopamine in the person. These drugs reduce psychotic symptoms; however, they often cause negative side effects similar to those seen in Parkinson's disease.

Raising Dopamine Levels

Giving patients drugs that are dopamine agonists tends to cause psychotic symptoms in the person. Drugs for Parkinson's disease can give people schizophrenia-like symptoms.

Drug Contradictions

Not all drugs that reduce dopamine impact schizophrenia, bringing doubt to the theory. Moreover, dopamine levels are reduced very quickly via drugs; however, it often takes several weeks to get relief from schizophrenia symptoms.

Brain Structure

Schizophrenia runs in families and has a strong genetic component. Furthermore, many schizophrenics have a noted brain structural difference. While not all have such structural differences, this brings considerations outside of the dopamine theory.

What Effect Does Hanging Upside Down Have On The Body

Hanging upside down for an extended period of time in order to relieve spinal ailments is called inversion therapy, and has been practiced globally for hundreds of years. The practice fluctuates in popularity, but with magician David Blaine's 60-hour inversion stunt, it seems to be back on the rise.

History

The first record of inversion therapy dates back to approximately 400 B.C., when Hippocrates used ropes and a harness to pull his patients upside down as a way of relieving back pain. Centuries later, in the 1960s, Dr. Robert Martin introduced the "Gravity Guidance System" to the American public. The system focused on gravity's affect on the body and posture. In the 1970s, Dr. Martin released a book outlining the system, with an accompanying inversion table. In the 1980s, inversion therapy was dealt a blow when it was reported that the therapy may put users in danger of stroke.

Beneficial Effects

Studies have indicated that hanging upside down can have some positive effects. It is most often used to relieve back pain by increasing the space between the vertebrae. Additionally, muscular tension in the back and shoulders can be lessened using this technique, as well as an improvement in posture and circulation. According to Dr. Jerry Swanson, however, inversion therapy has no known long-term benefits for back pain.

Negative Effects

Hanging upside down inherently has many serious health risks. When inverted, the heart must work much harder to get blood to the legs and feet. Blood then begins to accumulate in the head with no where to go, and begins to pool in the brain, risking clotting and death. Pooling also can occur in the lungs, which can lead to respiratory failure.

Types

Inversion therapy can be practiced either on an inversion table or with gravity boots. Inversion tables can be set to any degree the user wishes to be inverted, from fully inverted, to a shallow incline. Beginners are advised to start with a slight incline and work their way up to a steeper incline. Gravity boots are worn on the feet and attached to a rack normally placed on the ceiling. Worn like normal shoes, they allow the user to suspend, or hang, upside down.

Warning

Anyone who has heart disease, high blood pressure, eye diseases, spinal injury, hernia, ear infection, or anyone who is pregnant should not attempt inversion therapy without consulting a doctor. Beginners also are advised to have someone accompany them during the exercise.

Do Foot Detox Pads Work

Foot detox pads are supposed to work by drawing out the harmful toxins that may be in the body and pulling them out through the soles of the feet. The foot pads are applied to the bottoms of the feet at bedtime and are left until the following morning. The color of the pads changes from white to brown during the night, and the brown is marketed as being the toxins that were removed from the body.

Function

Detox foot pads are supposed to improve health when the toxins are removed, alleviating ailments and restoring energy.

Studies

No studies have ever shown the foot pads to remove any toxins from the body.

Color

The brown color that is seen on the foot pads is thought by many to be a reaction of the sweat from the wearer's foot and the pad.

Test

In 2009, a TV news station took detox foot pads to a laboratory for testing. Ordinary water was put on the pads, resulting in a brown color on the pads.

Iron

The iron in sweat may be the chemical reaction that causes the brown discoloration. The pads are rumored to contain a chemical that will react with iron by turning brown and stiffening the pad.

Prevent Cheek Wrinkles

Prevent Cheek Wrinkles

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging process. While some degree of wrinkling will occur as time passes, there are things you can do to prevent the aging process. It's imperative that you protect your skin from the sun as the sun's rays greatly speed up the aging process. In addition, you'll need to add moisture back into the skin since wrinkles occur due to a loss of elasticity in the skin. If you take steps to prevent cheek wrinkles early in life, you'll be able to delay the aging process.

Instructions

1. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle facial cleanser. Regular cleansing is necessary to remove makeup and other debris which clogs pores. Never sleep with makeup on as this can lead to wrinkles and fine lines.

2. Apply a moisturizer to your cheeks daily. Dry skin is more likely to show fine lines and wrinkles. Choose a moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin type.

3. Use a moisturizing mask on your cheeks once a week. In order to prevent wrinkles, it's imperative that your cheeks maintain adequate moisture. If your skin is particularly dry, use the mask twice weekly.

4. Wear sunscreen on your cheeks every day. Choose a sunscreen that guards against both UVA and UVB rays. The sun's rays can penetrate on overcast and rainy days so make sunscreen part of your daily skincare regime.

5. Place night cream on your cheeks every night before bed. Night creams tend to be richer since the skin can handle more moisture at night. Opt for an anti-wrinkle night cream, preferably those that contain Vitamin C, Vitamin E or retinols.

6. Get microdermabrasion treatments. A professional technician will use a small sandblaster-type device on your cheeks. The device will buff away the top layers of skin, revealing younger skin below. Microdermabrasion is effective at removing fine lines and preventing wrinkle formation.

7. Consider chemical peels. Your dermatologist can perform chemical peels as can licensed skincare specialists. The chemicals applied react with the top layers of skin, to essentially burn them away. Chemical peels help to combat the aging process and prevent wrinkles, particularly on the cheeks.

Cutaneous Tcell Lymphoma

Cutaneous T-Cell lymphoma, or CTCL, is a form of cancer that affects the skin. It originates in T-Cell lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), and is generally divided into three developmental stages: patch, plaque and tumor. It can be confused with other skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis.

Causes

CTCL generally starts when the cell DNA of a lymphocyte in a lymph gland is damaged in some way, resulting in a mutation. The cell divides in an uncontrollable manner, and each cell grows in size unhindered, resulting in the formation of a tumor.

Symptoms

The first stage of the disease presents as red, itchy skin and it commonly does not progress past this stage, per the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The second plaque stage of the disease is characterized by swollen or enlarged lymph nodes. It often takes years to develop into the third phase, where a tumor(s) form.

Diagnosis

A biopsy of the affected area of the skin is required for diagnosis. Sometimes, numerous biopsies are required to make sure the disease is not confused with other inflammatory skin diseases.

Treatment

If the disease is relegated to the skin, and has not spread to other body systems, localized treatment such as corticosteroids and photochemotherapy may be used.

Prognosis

Prognosis is different based on the stage of the disease, and how early treatment is started. If caught early, survival rates are near 100 percent. If caught in later stages, or if the disease spreads to other parts of the body, the prognosis becomes much more grim, with third stage cutaneous T-cell lymphoma having a survival rate of under 50 percent.

Identify A Deadly Snake

The United States has 25 poisonous snake species.

Of the world's nearly 3,000 snake species, 15 percent pose dangers to humans, according to the Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America. The bulk of the venomous snakes within the United States are pit vipers, including rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottomouths. Another common venomous snake in the U.S. is the coral snake. Knowing what a deadly snake looks like can help you avoid danger.

Instructions

1. Notice the snake's eye. Nonvenomous snakes have round pupils, whereas venomous snakes have elliptical, catlike pupils, indicates Utah State University.

2. Rattlesnakes will try to warn you.

Listen and look for a rattler on the snake. Rattlesnake species have a distinctive ringlike structure on the end of their tails. When a rattlesnake becomes alarmed, it shakes its rattler as a warning for you to avoid it.

3. Copperheads will lack patterns on the head.

Observe the snake's head. Venomous species have triangular-shape heads, similar to the shape of an arrowhead. See if you can spot pits between the eyes and nostrils of the snake. Nonvenomous snakes lack these pits. Also look at the color of the snake's head. Copperheads have completely copper-colored heads.

4. Identify colors or any markings on the snake. Coral snakes have colorful bands. If you see a snake with red, yellow and black rings, it's a coral snake, points out the Mayo Clinic. This distinctive pattern can help you discern from similar snakes such as the scarlet snake, which also had red and yellow patterns.

Cure Fever Blisters With Earl Grey Tea

Fever blisters are small sores located on the face or in the mouth, according to MedicineNet. Usually, they occur on the lips, chin, cheeks and inside the nose. Fever blisters hurt, burn or itch before they open up and crust over. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Using plain tea bags is a homemade remedy to cure fever blisters. Using Earl Grey tea is recommended because, in addition to the healing tannins, it contains natural bergamot oil. This oil has antiseptic properties.

Instructions

1. Place an Earl Grey tea bag in a cup of boiling water. You can boil a cup of water in the microwave or heat up a kettle of water on the stove top. Allow the tea bag to steep for a few minutes.

2. Remove the tea bag from the boiling water. Let it cool until you can touch it without being burned.

3. Hold the Earl Grey tea bag against the fever blister as a hot compress for five to 10 minutes. Repeat this process every couple hours using a new tea bag. The fever blister should heal and disappear within four or five days.

Make A Massage Oil That Is Water Soluble

Water soluble massage oil won't stain your clothing or sheets.

Massage oils can be quite expensive to purchase at retail, but making your own oils at home is both simple and fun. The downside to massage oil is that it can ruin fabrics if you use the wrong kind. Water-soluble massage oil is preferred to preserve your linens. You need to know which massage oils and essential oils are water soluble to create a blend that is nontoxic and easily washed from your linens.

Instructions

1. Purchase the right oil for your intended use. Edible massage oils are clearly water soluble and meant for the enjoyment of couples who need massage oil that is safe to eat and nontoxic. Edible massage oils also are readily used by massage therapists. They might contain sesame, sweet almond, apricot kernel, coconut or sunflower oil. These water-soluble oils contain no animal fats or animal by-products, and no perfumes or dyes.

2. Read labels and look at ready-made blends on the market. Note which oils they contain, and reproduce the oil by purchasing the same ingredients. A typical example is Biotene, which contains coconut oil, jojoba oil and aloe vera. This combination is unscented and washes clean from linens.

3. Determine which blend you will use in your massage oil and whether you want it to have a scent. Choosing essential oils that are healing and therapeutic are your best bet for creating water-soluble massage oils that not only prevent damage to linens, but also have healing properties. If using essential oils in your preparation, choose those are water soluble, such as lavender and chamomile, which make for a comforting massage.

4. Note that some massage or essential oils can cause allergic reactions. Apply a small amount of your preparation to the inside wrist of each person you intend to massage. After 20 minutes, proceed with the massage if there is no noticeable reaction.

Administer First Aid To Nose Bleeds

Nosebleeds are perhaps one of the most invasive medical occurrences. Suddenly and without warning a warm trickle of blood appears from the center of your face and before you know it you are the center of attention. Nosebleeds are usually related to allergies, excessive blowing, repeated scratching or disturbing of the inside of the nose (commonly called nose picking). Chronic nosebleeds are primarily symptomatic of fragile blood vessels. Medications, such as antihistamines, can also dry out the nasal areas, weakening the vessels and encouraging nose bleeds. Old-fashioned remedies may not help in stopping that bothersome nosebleed. Here is the proper way to administer first aid to nosebleeds.

Instructions

1. At the onset of the nosebleed, pinch the nostril area of the nose inward as hard as you can.

2. Lean slightly forward for 10 mintues to give the blood time to clot. Don't bend over completely; you simply want to ensure that the stream is moving forward and not back toward the throat.

3. After the 10 minutes, release your nose and sit upright slowly. It is important that you do not blow your nose. The desire to do so will be agonizingly strong, but do not blow your nose for the balance of the day.

4. If you find the bleeding has not stopped, try the steps again. If the problem is still occurring, an over-the-counter saline or nasal decongestant spray should help. These immediately constrict blood vessels, thereby ending the bleeding. If you use a nasal spray, you may blow very gently to clear the fluid from your nose.

Use Conjugated Linoleic Acid

For those looking to reduce body fat, supplementing the diet with conjugated linoleic acid is an option to consider. Conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, is a natural substance found in many foods. Various studies have shown that this substance can help reduce body fat and increase muscle mass.

Instructions

1. Understand that conjugated linoleic acid helps to lose body fat but does not necessarily result in weight loss. Because muscle weighs more than fat, converting fat to muscle usually doesn't yield a reduction in weight. However, the body will have a leaner, slimmer and more defined look.

2. Take conjugated linoleic acid as a dietary supplement to help increase muscle mass. Even if you don't change your eating habits or exercise routine, you should still lose fat and increase muscles. This in turn will increase metabolism and burn more calories.

3. Combine the use of conjugated linoleic acid with a healthy diet plan to obtain a safe and gradual weight loss. Losing too much weight too quickly is not healthy and may also contribute to loss of muscle mass. The lost weight is usually quickly regained. This yo-yo effect is hard on our bodies and should be avoided.

4. Consume the recommended amount of CLA to achieve loss of body fat. Although CLA is found naturally in some foods, primarily meat and dairy products, it is not enough to achieve desired results in reducing body fat. Researchers recommend supplementing the diet with daily consumption of approximately 3.4 grams of CLA.

5. Change any really bad eating habits. This just makes good sense if you are trying to either reduce body fat or lose weight. But don't deny yourself specific foods. The typically forbidden foods should be allowed every now and then in small portions.

6. Purchase CLA in health food stores and from several online sources. Because it is a dietary supplement, it does not require a prescription.

Does Epimedium Work

Epimedium provides a natural cure for sexual excitement and endurance problems.

Epimedium, otherwise known as horny goat weed, is an herb that alternative medicine practitioners tout as an aphrodisiac. Epimedium is a natural alternative to medications such as Viagra (viagra.com), Cialis (cialis.com) and Levitra (levitra.com) for low libido problems, erection difficulties, sterility and premature ejaculation. Unlike some alternative treatments, epimedium is a fairly reliable and effective herbal remedy for sexual excitement and endurance problems.

Sexual Effectiveness

Epimedium is generally very effective as a sexual stimulant. One double-blind experiment found that epimedium increased sexual endurance and pleasure for men by 60 percent while Viagra improved sexual function and enjoyment for men by only 40 percent. To enjoy the benefits of epimedium, take this herb with food one to two hours before sexual intercourse.

Infertility

Epimedium is a good herbal supplement to try if you and your partner are finding it difficult to conceive a child. A study conducted on epimedium in China found that this herb significantly increases sperm production, count and density. Epimedium also contains icariin, which increases blood flow to the male organ and reduces the risk of sexual dysfunction. In other words, epimedium works well as a natural solution for infertility.

Side Effects

Although epimedium is effective as a natural cure for low libido, erectile dysfunction and infertility, keep in mind that this herb may cause negative side effects. Epimedium should be used only occasionally because long-term ingestion of epimedium is associated with dizziness, nosebleeds, vomiting and dry mouth. If taken in excess, epimedium also can cause serious breathing problems and spasms.

Migraine Triggers

Many men, women and children suffer from migraine headaches. Women get more migranes headaches than men, according to statistics, due to the hormone estrogen. Children often aren't diagnosed due to symptoms different from adults'. Different triggers can cause a migraine and its many symptoms.

Significance

Migraines are not just headaches. The pain can range from mild to very intense. About 14 million suffer from migraines but are never diagnosed. The pain can be so intense some suffers have to lie down in a dark place and rest until it passes. About 17 percent of women and 7 percent of men have experienced migraines. It is sometimes preceded by a flash of light, tingling in the arms or a blind spot. Sometimes the person's effort to control pain can lead to other serious medical complications.

It is sometimes described as a frequently reoccurring headache with throbbing pain on one side of the head or both.

It is a syndrome or collection of symptoms that arises due to a common cause. It is a real illness like diabetes or asthma. About 12 million people experience attacks on a daily basis.

Function

Attacks last between four and 72 hours when striking. Some of the symptoms are visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound, and tingling or numbness. Another is throbbing pain that interferes with normal activities.

Many causes of migraines are called triggers. Hormonal changes like fluctuations in estrogen seem to trigger the headache. Many women get headaches before or after their periods. Certain food will trigger a migraine like chocolate, alcohol, pickled or marinated food, overuse of caffeine and Asian foods. Stress at work or home can cause migraines. Sensory stimulus like bright lights and unusual smells sometimes cause or trigger a headache. Changes in medications, sleeping patterns and environment all may act as a trigger.

Features

In children the migraine pain is often less intense than in adults. They may have the symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and vertigo. Sometimes the attacks occur without any head pain, making it hard to diagnose in children. Motion sickness is often an early warning sign in children. The severity of migraines rises with women because of the hormone estrogen. Some people suffer from chronic migraines and get them daily. Depression, anxiety and sleep disturbances are common for those with chronic migraines. Often those with chronic migraines overuse pain medications. It is best to see a doctor when experiencing migraines to find the cause and a treatment.

Considerations

Using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to treat migraines sometimes causes complications. Medications with ibuprofen like Advil and Motrin and aspirin sometime causes abdominal pain, bleeding and ulcers. If you take over-the-counter headache medications more than three times a week you can get rebound headaches. They are caused when the medication stops relieving the pain and actually causes headaches. Also taking migraine medications with other medications can cause some serious side effects. So always consult a doctor when taking prescription drugs with over-the-counter pain killers.

Prevention/Solution

To treat migraines you must consult a doctor, who will give you a physical exam. Computerized tomography is often used to get a computerized X-ray of your brain. This helps check for tumors, infections and other medical causes of migraines. An MRI uses radio waves to get a detailed cross-sectional view of your brain. The test checks for tumors, strokes, neurological diseases and other complications. A spinal tap is done to check for meningitis, if suspected. Once the doctor finds the cause of your migraines there are many prescription medications available to treat the pain or prevent the headaches from occurring. Nontraditional methods of treatment include acupuncture, biofeedback, massage, and herbs, vitamins and minerals

Why Does A Body Stiffen After Death

Dead bodies stiffen after death in a process called rigor mortis.

Within a few hours of person's death, the body begins to stiffen. This is due to the loss of a protein in the muscle tissue known as ATP, which allows muscles to contract. This stiffening process is called "rigor mortis."

Features

According to deathonline.net, under normal conditions, rigor mortis sets in approximately three hours after death. The body to reach its maximum stiffness within 12 hours, and then continues to dissipate for another three days.

Function

ATP helps pump calcium from the muscles. Upon death, ATP can no longer be produced, so calcium can no longer be pumped out, which causes the calcium concentration to rise, in turn causing the muscles to remain contracted.

Misconceptions

Rigor mortis is not a permanent condition. According to the website, Ask A Scientist, when muscle proteins begin to degrade, they relinquish their grip and the body will lose its stiffness.

Considerations

According to the book Forensic Pathology, in warmer climates, decomposition begins quickly, meaning that rigor mortis can, in certain cases, set in only for a short time or not at all.

Fun Fact

Violent muscular exertion will often lead to a decrease in ATP levels in certain parts of the body, meaning that, in certain cases, rigor mortis can have a rapid onset. This phenomenon, known as cadaveric spasm, can leave the body posed in bizarre contortions.

Get Rid Of Tarnish On Aluminum Doors

Tarnish is a form of corrosion that affects certain metals, including aluminum. The reason tarnish is formed is because of airborne chemicals. An aluminum door that is tarnished will lose its shine and become covered with a black and grey layer. Tarnish is easy to remove. Unlike rust, tarnish also does not destroy the actual metal.

Instructions

1. Fill a bucket with warm water and a mild dish detergent. Dip a cloth into the bucket. Wipe down the aluminum door to remove all dirt and debris. Rinse off the door with clean water.

2. Dip a steel wool pad into the bucket. Scrub the door with the steel wool pad until the tarnish is removed.

3. Remove any soapy residue from the door with a wet cloth. Dry the door with another cloth.

4. Rub the door with the shiny part of a piece of aluminum foil. Rub with enough force to bring out the shine in the aluminum.

5. Apply a commercial product that polishes aluminum to your door. Metal polishers are available at home improvement stores.

Natural Sugar Substitutes For Diabetics

To prevent the spike in blood glucose levels that results from eating sugar, diabetics have to avoid eating foods that contain sugar. It is still possible to use sweeteners, even when you want to avoid chemical sweeteners, such as sucralose, aspartame or saccharine. Natural sugar substitutes that are tolerated well by diabetics include stevia, agave and yacon.

Stevia

Stevia is a sweetener made from the leaves of a plant called Stevia Rebuadiana. The leaves of this plant are dried and then powdered, and used as a natural sweetner. In addition to the fact that it does not cause an increase in blood glucose levels, stevia is useful for diabetics, since it has properties that lower blood sugar levels. You can use stevia to sweeten anything that you use sugar for, but be aware that some blends of stevia have a bitter aftertaste. Before using it to sweeten a large dish, check the flavor to ensure that there is no bitterness.

Agave Nectar

The agave is a succulent, or pulp-filled, plant with large spikes. While there are many varieties of agave, the blue agave plant that grows in Mexico is the variety that is preferred by those harvesting agave nectar. The nectar of the agave plant is extremely sweet, because of the fructose it contains. You can sweeten many types of foods with agave nectar, also known as agave syrup. It has a flavor that is similar to honey, while the consistency is not quite as thick. Agave syrup has a low glycemic value, which means that a diabetic can eat foods sweetened with agave without a dramatic increase in blood sugar.

Yacon Root

The yacon plant, which is related to the sunflower, grows naturally in the Andes mountains. Also known as jicama, the yacon plant is grown as a food crop all over the world, including in the United States. While the stalks are eaten, the roots of the yacon plant are used as a sweetener, because of their high fructose content. The fructose in yacon roots is not easily digested, and therefore is not converted into sugar. This prevents it from raising a diabetic's blood sugar levels.

Soft Laser Treatment For Tinnitus

Soft Laser Treatment for Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a persistent sound in the ear such as ringing, buzzing, roaring or whistling. Soft laser treatment, or low level laser therapy, has been tested as a treatment for tinnitus. According to the National Institutes of Health, its benefits have not yet been confirmed. In addition, the Tinnitus Laser Centre in Sweden and also found it to be not entirely successful. However, there were some clinical studies that had positive results and the therapy continues to be explored.

Gingko Biloba Infusion

Prior to the laser therapy, patients are infused with gingko biloba.

The Laser

The laser is directed at one cm above the mastoid, which is part of the temporal bone.

Infrared Laser

Infrared laser has been tried over a 10-week period, directing the laser into the passage of the ear, the meatus acusticus. The results showed an improvement in about half of the patients.

Laser Irradiation

The results of laser irradiation on the cochlea, the auditory area of the ear, showed that laser treatment may reduce tinnitus. This test was conducted on guinea pigs.

Continuing Studies

Many studies have been done using varied dosages of gingko biloba and levels of laser therapy, as well as different locations of the ear. While some studies have been unsuccessful, there have been a few positive results.

Age Factor

Younger individuals who have tinnitus as a result of excessive exposure to loud noises, such as concerts, discos and loud stereos, are treated more successfully than older people who have suffered with the condition over a long period of time.

Safely Take Amoxicillin While Pregnant

When you are pregnant and sick it is important to research all medications before taking anything even if it is an antibiotic. Amoxicillin is a medication that only a doctor can prescribe. Get to know the health risks of taking medications such as Amoxicillin before you decide to consume it while pregnant. Any medication can have an effect on you and your baby during pregnancy.

Instructions

1. Get to know more about this drug in general. Amoxicillin, which is very similar to Penicillin, is used to treat bacteria-caused infections. These are both antibiotics. This antibiotic has not been linked to any birth defects or pregnancy-related difficulties. Consult your doctor first before taking any medication while pregnant.

2. Talk to your doctor. Amoxicillin is in the FDA category B for pregnancy, which interprets that they do not expect it to be harmful to your baby. If you have an infection you need to first be checked out by your OB/GYN or doctor. If you have a viral infection, this antibiotic will not help you. On the other hand, if the doctor sees that you are correct in needing an antibiotic she may prescribe you Amoxicillin.

3. Use Amoxicillin according to the dosage recommendations. Amoxicillin is typically taken once a day and at the same time each day. You must take the entire prescription as directed for it to be effective or for it to get rid of your infection. If you do not take it as directed the bacteria may continue to grow and worsen. Amoxicillin is best taken with food and water but can be taken without food. The dosage that your doctor prescribes will depend on your individual condition.

4. Consider any allergies. Amoxicillin, taken as directed (usually small amounts) by your doctor is acknowledged as harmless as long as the mother has no history of being allergic to Penicillin or any other antibiotics. Again this does not mean it is safe for everyone, so talk to your doctor.

5. Taken when nursing. Amoxicillin is also acknowledged to be safe during breastfeeding as long as there is no history of allergic reactions and that it is taken in small increments. This antibiotic is also used to treat various infections in babies. Babies can experience unwanted side effects from the medication as well as adults (talk to your babies pediatrician for a individual consultation before use).

Diy Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver is easy to make with any piece of pure silver.

Colloidal silver is used against bacteria and viruses in the body, on the body, and on hard surfaces, like counter tops. When you purchase colloidal silver from a dealer, you are usually assured of getting consistent amounts of silver in each drop. However, the amount of silver is dependent upon the method of production and age of the preparation. DIY enthusiasts can make colloidal silver that is usually consistent for a fraction of the cost. If you need to know how many ppm of silver you have, you can always send a sample to an independent lab.

Obtain Silver

Keep in mind that 14 gauge silver wire works best.

Any silver that is at least .99 percent pure is acceptable to make colloidal silver. Silver of this grade comes in many shapes and sizes. You can use flat silver electrodes, silver wire, or even an old, clean, pure silver coin. One of the experts in DIY colloidal silver, Silver Medicine.org, recommends using 14 gauge silver wire submersed as far as possible, because it gives a cleaner colloidal silver.

Set up the Current

You can use batteries to make your colloidal silver.

There are two accepted ways to get current into your silver. For the first, you take a recycled, functional, power cord and strip the end wires. Attach alligator clips to the stripped wires, and clip the silver with the alligator clips.

The second method requires several 9 volt batteries. You need enough 9 volt batteries to generate between .7 and 20 milliamps of electricity. The batteries are connected through a circuit to two wires with both ends stripped. One end of each wire is connected, to one set of batteries, and the other end is connected, through alligator clips, to the silver.

Generator Setup

Fill a glass container to within 1 inch of the top with distilled water. Rest a ruler, stick, chopstick or other thin wood item across the top of the glass. Insert the silver into the water and rest the wires do the alligator clips are resting on the wood. The clips can not touch the water, or each other. Ensure the silver pieces do not touch each other. Connect your circuit, if using batteries, or if using a power cord, plug it into the wall.

Timing

Timing is important.

Watch the colloidal silver generator closely. When you see a bit of yellow floating between the silver take note of the time. This will take between 15 and 30 minutes. Let it run for another five minutes. Remove the negative electrode, wait about five minutes and then remove the positive electrode.

Clean the Silver

Only use a nylon scrup to clean your silver.

Disconnect silver from the power source immediately after each use. Clean the silver well between each batch of colloidal silver. It is best to use a nylon scrub. Scrub the sliver quickly, with light, uniform pressure. Store silver in a protected place where it won't be exposed to bumps, water, or anything else which might damage it.

Use Turmeric For Arthritis Pain

Ayurveda, the more than 5,000-year-old traditional system of health of the Indian subcontinent, has long prized the healing properties of the powdered root of the turmeric plant. Recent Western medical research indicates that a substance in turmeric called curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce joint swelling. Turmeric seems to work best when taken as a preventive measure prior to arthritis pain episodes.

Instructions

1. Purchase turmeric. Preferably, buy the herb in powder form rather than in capsules. Many herbal capsule preparations also contain substances that may inhibit the action of the healing herb itself. If possible, purchase an organic form of turmeric.

2. Add turmeric to your diet. Consuming moderate amounts of turmeric on a regular basis helps prevent arthritis pain. Turmeric absorbs most readily into the body when combined with oil or with other substances such as black pepper, ginger, or pineapple. One to two teaspoons a day will allow you to experience turmeric's benefits without any negative side effects.

3. Apply turmeric topically. If arthritis pain strikes, make a paste of turmeric with coconut oil and apply to the affected area. Do not mix the herb with water, as curcumin is not water soluble. The paste will leave a temporary orange-yellow discoloration on the skin. You can wash this away with a gentle soap. Indian culture uses turmeric as a dye, so avoid having the paste come in contact with clothing. Some people prefer buying turmeric essential oil to making a paste of it at home.
