Herbal Cancer Cures

In this day and age, there are many methods of cancer treatment, however, not all methods are safe or easy. More and more people are turning to alternative methods of treatment, including herbal treatments, as a means of self-healing. By utilizing herbs and other natural cures, an individual usually does far less damage to their body and typically has little to no side effects. Natural treatment methods, particularly herbal cures, usually make patients feel better overall.

Flax Seed

Flax seed oil and ground flax seeds can be added to just about any dish. Some believe that it can help you retain less water and lose weight.

Mix 2 to 5 tablespoons of flax seed oil and 1 to 3 tablespoons of flax seeds (ground) with cottage cheese and spices, such as cayenne pepper, garlic and red pepper (to taste). It is packed with healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, which can help boost your immune system and contribute to healthy weight loss. Also, use flax seed oil to cook your favorite dish in instead of butter or margarine.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass tea is another alternative. Ben Gurion University of the Negev researchers made a discovery drinking eight glasses of lemongrass tea on the day of chemotherapy helpings fight cancer for good. You can grow lemongrass at home. In fact, it's almost like a weed. Once you grow it, you won't be able to get rid of it, and it will take over your garden. Steep 1 cup of fresh lemongrass in a kettle of water for approximately five minutes to prepare a tea. Strain the tea, or tie the lemongrass in cheesecloth. Drink it throughout the day.

Acai Berry

Acai Berry is another Amazon Rainforest secret. Growing in small bunches, much like grape bushes, but in the form of a giant palm tree, Acai Berry trees can be found throughout the rainforest. Eighty percent of the berry is a giant seed and so is the surrounding pulp where the juice and other foods are made. In Brazil, the pulp is used to make smoothies, mixed with granola and eaten for energy. Acai Berry is available in pill, juice or berry forms. If you live in the United States, your best bet is to buy it in juice form and mix approximately 1 to 2 tablespoons into your other fruit juice or your fruit or yogurt. It has a very distinct taste and it's not for everyone. Some describe it as a somewhat woody or forest-like taste. It's not as fruity or as sweet as some fruit juices. In addition to helping burn calories and build energy and muscle tone, Acai Berry helps to fight cancer and build a healthier immune system.

Help A Child Cope With A Gender Identity Disorder

A gender identity disorder describes a rare condition in which a child (or adult) identifies with the opposite gender to such an extent that he wishes to become that other gender. This condition presents itself in children, sometimes as young as four or five, and it can create significant problems with development and socialization.

Instructions

1. Understand the symptoms of gender identity disorder. They include an expressed desire to change genders, a general disgust with one's own genitals, dressing like the opposite gender, depression and behaviors that attempt to stave off development. For example, a girl with gender identity disorder might refuse to learn about menstruation.

2. Talk to the child's teachers to determine the extent of symptoms. In many cases, a child with gender identity disorder will withdraw from her peers and refuse to participate in gender-appropriate roles. This can cause problem at school, day care and other public places.

3. Enroll the child in counseling with a licensed psychiatrist. Even if you aren't opposed to the child's behavior, a therapist can help him deal with the serious symptoms of this disorder, including depression and anxiety. Many patients with gender identity disorder have difficulty expressing themselves and may have a very poor self-image.

4. Discuss the child's feelings at length. Responding with anger or frustration will only result in further depression, so attempt to control your own feelings about the issue. It is doubtful that the child is trying to intentionally cause trouble, and many psychiatrists believe that this disorder is related to genetics.

5. Understand that you can't cure gender identity disorder. With therapy, some children come to accept their own genders and grow up to be happy, well-adjusted adults. However, things like hormone imbalances and chromosomal abnormalities are biological, and therefore beyond the child's control.

6. Consider homeschooling a child with gender identity disorder. Although she has a right to public education, the depression and anxiety she might be feeling can become too much to bear. Furthermore, it is difficult for a child with this disorder to gain acceptance among peers.

Respiratory & Muscle Testing

Muscles and the thoracic cavity are vital components of respiration.

Respiratory muscle testing involves measurement of thoracic pressure changes with inspiration (breathing in), as well as pressure changes in the esophagus. Pressure from the stomach during coughing is a means of measuring expiratory pressure, which is muscle strength while breathing out. The lungs are also vital to respiration and are included in other respiratory muscle testing methods.

Respiratory Muscles

Muscles used in respiration produce the force with which air is inhaled and exhaled, while also helping supply the body with blood and the brain with oxygen. Problems with any one, or more, of the vital components of the respiratory system can raise clinical concerns. For example, weak respiratory muscles could explain someone's intolerance to physical exercise, while other symptoms affect the prognosis of a person with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD, among other conditions.

Respiratory Muscle Force

Among the most common non-invasive tests conducted on the respiratory muscles are measuring the maximum voluntary inspiratory (inhaled) and expiratory (exhaled) pressures. These are measured at the mouth, utilizing a mouthpiece, by prompting the person examined to breath in to her maximum capacity, and breath out to empty the lungs as much as she can in one single exhale. These tests are typically performed on a seated person. Some people who are examined will perform the inspiration test through the nose, using a "sniff" type of inhalation.

Other Measurements

In some rare cases, the person takes an esophageal pressure test and another test of the gastric or abdominal region pressure, measured in centimeters of water (cmH2O). The difference between the two pressures measured here (found by subtracting one from the other) is known as the "transdiaphragmatic pressure," and this value is considered a good representation of the diaphragmatic functioning level, or strength.

Skin Bleach For Moles

Skin Bleach for Moles

Moles can occur anywhere on your skin. Typically, moles are not a life threatening occurrence. Moles that are of a medical concern are those that are large, bumpy, and/ or discolored. Moles with these characteristics should be checked out by a doctor immediately. If the mole is a superficial problem, there are products such as skin bleach to lighten the moles to the point of non-existence.

How Do Moles Occur

Some moles are the work of genetics while others occur due to too much exposure to the sun. Heredity and age can even be factors in moles. Uneven distribution of melanin that cluster together produce moles. Melanin is the primary determinate in human skin color. Too much exposure to sunlight may alter the DNA and RNA cells of the skin and produce skin moles that are susceptible to cancer.

Where to Start With Mole Removal

It is very important that the first step in getting rid of a mole is the doctor's office. As some moles can be a form of cancer, it is extremely important to get any moles checked out by a doctor. Many times the doctor might want to remove the mole anyways to test it for melanoma. If it is determined that the mole is not harmful, then alternative mole removal techniques can be considered.

Skin Bleach

If a mole is not medically harmful and for one reason or another not going to be removed, there are skin bleach products that you can use to simply lighten the skin in the mole area. It lightens the darkened pigmentation caused by the melanin formation to effortlessly make moles and even freckles less noticeable. Check with your doctor to make sure that this is a viable option.

Risks and Irritations

Reactions to use of skin bleach depends on the person and their skin's reaction to the bleaching agent. Skin irritation is a possible problem with bleaching skin moles. In some cases, the bleach does not lighten the skin due to a number of unforeseeable factors with your skin. If any issues arise from the bleaching, consult your doctor.

Benefits

The obvious benefit of using skin bleach on a mole is the lightening of the mole. There are products that use chemicals that sometimes react poorly with certain people. Avoid products that contain hydroquinone. There are many products that use natural ingredients that will lighten your mole without damaging your skin.

Asthma Symptoms Lungs

Asthma is a chronic respiratory illness in which the airways become blocked or narrowed, resulting in breathing difficulty. It is caused by genetic and environmental factors. An asthma attack or episode results from an allergic, physical or viral trigger. Symptoms of an asthma attack can range from mild to life threatening and should be treated immediately or prior to onset.

Types

Types of asthma include exercise-induced asthma which is triggered by physical exertion or exercise, allergic-rhinitis that can be triggered by allergens such as pollen, dust and mold, cough-variant asthma, which is usually triggered by exercise and respiratory infections, and nighttime asthma where asthma symptoms are most common and dangerous during the night.

Identification

Symptoms of asthma include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and pressure or tightness in the chest.

Effects

Asthma can cause permanent narrowing of the bronchial tubes, and both oral and inhaled asthma medications can have side effects that should be discussed with your doctor.

Considerations

Know the factors that can increase chances of developing asthma such as family history, frequent respiratory infections, being exposed to certain chemicals, air pollution, exposure to secondhand smoke, having a low birth weight or being overweight.

Treatment

Asthma can be treated by learning to recognize symptoms of an asthma attack, controlling asthma triggers, taking medication as prescribed by a doctor and using a peak flow meter to measure lung function.

Deal With Panic Attacks Naturally

Nearly six million U.S. adults have panic disorder, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.

Panic disorder, a type of anxiety disorder, is characterized by recurrent panic attacks. Panic attack symptoms include hyperventilation, sweating, nausea, shortness of breath, trembling, chest pain and an intense fear of imminent disaster or death. They occur abruptly, regardless of place or time. It often seems longer, but panic attacks usually last 30 minutes, with the worst symptoms occurring in the first 10 minutes. Consider an evaluation for panic disorder if you have a history of panic attacks and dread the next one. Whether you have had one panic attack or dozens, some natural remedies may offer a measure of relief.

Instructions

1. Exercise for 30 minutes three to five times weekly. A 2005 study in the "American Journal of Psychiatry" found that 30 minutes of aerobic exercise had an "antipanic" effect as measured on the Acute Panic Inventory. Several studies show the importance of exercise in relieving symptoms of both anxiety and depression. Exercise releases endorphins, serotonin and other neurotransmitters, chemicals that naturally make us feel better.

2. Watch what you eat. According to Dr. Daniel K. Hall-Flavin, a Mayo Clinic psychiatrist, food will not cure an anxiety disorder, but dietary changes can help. Eat small meals throughout the day to maintain stable blood sugar levels. Drink water and avoid alcohol and caffeine. Eat foods that have tryptophan, like bananas, cheese and poultry. Tryptophan is an amino acid that helps with relaxation.

3. Belly-breathe daily, beginning with five minutes and working up to 15 minutes. Place a pillow under your head and lie down with your knees bent comfortably. Lay your hand on your belly and relax. Count to four as you slowly inhale. Be aware of your belly lifting and expanding under your hand. Count to four as you slowly exhale. Feel the tension drain as your breath releases. Repeat. With practice, you can do this sitting or standing, and it can become the first weapon in your arsenal against panic.

Spine Alignment For Pain Relief From Fibromialgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by muscle and joint pain, fatigue, and multiple tender, or "trigger," points. These points refer to sensitivity that occurs in specific localized areas, particularly in the neck, spine, shoulders and hips. There are nine pairs of trigger points, one point on each side of the body. Patients with fibromyalgia also may experience sleep disturbances, morning stiffness, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and other symptoms.

Diagnosis

According to the American College of Rheumatology, fibromyalgia affects 3 to 6 million Americans. It primarily occurs in women of childbearing age, although men, children and the elderly may also be affected. The exact cause is unknown. The symptoms are similar to other diseases, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, low thyroid function, and clinical depression, making it difficult to diagnose. Criteria for a fibromyalgia diagnosis includes widespread joint and muscle pain that has been present for at least three months and pain at 11 or more of the 18 specific trigger points when they are pressed.

Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic treatment is based on the theory that physical disorders are caused by problems in the nervous system and that misalignment (subluxations) of the vertebrae affects the nervous system. Chiropractic treatment involves manipulation of the spinal column and other areas of the body to correctly align the spine.

While there is controversy over the subluxation theory, according to BigBackPain.com, there is some evidence that chiropractic treatment can be effective for neuromusculoskeletal disorders.

A study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics stated that more than half of the participants who underwent 30 chiropractic treatments showed significant reductions in pain intensity and improvement in their overall fatigue and quality of sleep. The article concludes, "This study suggests a potential role for chiropractic care in the management of fibromyalgia. A randomized clinical trial should be conducted to test this hypothesis. (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 2000; 23: 225--30)"

A January 2009 article in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, "Chiropractic Management of Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Systematic Review of the Literature by Michael Schneider, D.C., Ph.D., Howard Vernon, D.C., Ph.Db., Gordon Ko, MDc., Gordon Lawson, MSc., DCd., Jerome Pererae concludes, "Review of these articles resulted in the following recommendations regarding nonpharmaceutical treatments of FMS. Strong evidence supports aerobic exercise and cognitive behavioral therapy. Moderate evidence supports massage, muscle strength training, acupuncture, and spa therapy (balneotherapy). Limited evidence supports spinal manipulation, movement/body awareness, vitamins, herbs, and dietary modification."

See Your Doctor

Your physician is best qualified to evaluate and design a specific care plan for patients who suffer from fibromyalgia. If you choose chiropractic care, regular chiropractic adjustments, along with nutrition and exercise, can help reduce pain and other symptoms.

Natural Cures For Fleas & Worms In Dogs

Nature has blessed us with many natural cures for flea and worm outbreaks. Although many chemical anti-parasitic remedies are on the market, natural remedies for worms and fleas have fewer side effects overall for dogs' well-being. As we are learning the importance of natural remedies for our own long-term health, why not also treat our beloved pets with natural cures?

Fleas

One way to control fleas on your dog is with a natural compound called Diatomaceous Earth. This naturally occurring sedimentary mineral compound is made up of fossilized water plants called diatoms, according to Golden Harvest Organics.com. Golden Harvest estimates this compound to be roughly 30 million years old.

How It Works

Diatomaceous Earth has razor sharp edges that irritate the body of the flea. After the flea is exposed to the Diatomaceous Earth, these sharp particles eventually cut through the fleshy parts of the flea's body. If the flea ingests the substance, the particles cut its internal organs, causing death.

Where to Find It and How Use It

Look for Diatomaceous Earth in gardening shops. Make sure you buy the "food grade" Earth, because it is less harmful to you and your furry friend. To apply it, first put on eye protection and a dust mask. Dust the animal, avoiding the face and surrounding areas. Rub the Diatomaceous Earth into the fur.

Other Uses

Dust the Diatomaceous Earth in the house on rugs and around dog bedding. Dust around perimeter of house and yard to control fleas outside and the dog's exposure to them.

Other Natural Remedies for Fleas

Try brewer's yeast and garlic. The yeast and the garlic make the animal's blood unpalatable to fleas. The garlic is a great immunity booster that controls parasites and reduces cholesterol. Mix the yeast and garlic with food, but check with your veterinarian for the appropriate amount for your dog's age and weight.

Apple cider vinegar changes the ph of the blood, making it too acidic for fleas. Mix with food; check with the vet first for appropriate dosage.

Cedar oil and shavings help, because cedar is irritating to fleas. Fill your pet's bed with shavings or put a few drops of cedar oil in a spray bottle with filtered water and spray onto the dog's coat. A few drops should be enough. You want to be able to smell the cedar without it being overpowering.

Worms

Pumpkin is nature's remedy for worm parasite control. The seeds have a unique amino acid that paralyzes worms while working to dispel them. This is a safe and effective measure for annihilating worm infestation. Pumpkins are also a good worm preventive and are full of essential fatty acids and other vitamins and minerals that help keep to your dog happy and healthy. Add a few crushed dried pumpkin seeds to daily meals.

Additional Help

Wormwood alleviates worm infestation, but side effects might be very uncomfortable for you furry friend, including upset stomach, irritated kidneys or effects on the nervous system.

Black walnut is an anti-parasitic with no known side effects. Cinnamon is an anti-parasitic and natural insect repellent with a possible side effect of irritating the skin.

Why Do Indians Eat Curry

Lamb curry is a traditional dish.

Curry is a spice blend used in Indian and other southeast Asian and African countries. The word curry is from the word "kari" in the Tamil language spoken in southern India and Sir Lanka. In Western countries we think of curry as a powder used to season food. Indian cuisine defines curry as something entirely different and very regional.

Indian Cuisine

Indian spices are colorful and flavorful.

Each of the geographical regions of India has its own blend of spices with some similarities. Much of the cuisine is vegetarian. Religious influences and the availability of meat also play a part. Northern Indian cuisine comes from a very rural tradition and uses wheat as its base; breads are an important component to any meal. Southern Indian cuisine is spicier and uses rice as the base of many of its dishes. Indian cuisine is also a very personal family experience. Recipes are as diverse and numerous as the families that make them.

Religious Influence

When the Islamic religion began to be practiced in India in tandem with Hinduism, changes in the cuisine became quite evident. Meat was introduced into the diet and cooked with gravies spiced with the regional spices of India. These spices -- ginger, cayenne pepper, cumin, coriander, turmeric, onions and garlic -- were blended with the gravies and meat combinations of the Muslim diet. Eating with the right hand was also introduced into India at this time and these two distinct changes have remained a part of Indian culture.

Sauces

Make a spicy dish of Indian vegetable and meat curry.

Indian curry is essentially the sauces and gravies introduced by Muslims flavored with the exotic southern Indian spices. Western culture thinks of curry as a powder when in reality it is a generic term for the sauce. Curry can be the addition of these regional spices into any dish -- vegetarian, seafood or meat. These spices can also be added to rice along with coconut to produce a sweet spicy flavor.

Spices

The spices contain heat which causes the body to sweat and keep cool in warmer temperatures. The mixture of spices westerners call "curry" is an Anglican invention. Powdered curry is not something Indian cuisine recognizes. Indian cuisine uses spices in cooking sauces and gravies and thus Indians eat curry as naturally as Western cultures use salt and pepper or gravy over roast beef and chicken.

Neurological Symptoms Of Migraine Headaches

Migraines are a severe type of headache that can produce immobilizing pain and impair an individual's ability to function. Some people are genetically predisposed to migraines, and they tend to be more prevalent in women. Migraines may be triggered by a variety of factors, including weather changes, physical or emotional stress and food or drink.

Intense Pain

The characteristic neurological symptom of a migraine is intense pain on one or both sides of the head. This pain may have a consistent, rhythmic throbbing.

Compromised Thought

Difficulty thinking or concentrating is a common symptom of migraines. Disrupted motor coordination is also typical.

Distorted Vision

Another neurological symptom is blurred or otherwise compromised vision. Some individuals see auras around lights in the early stages of a migraine.

Increased Irritability

Individuals experiencing a migraine become extremely irritable.

Stimuli Sensitivity

Sensitivity to light, noise and tastes may develop as symptoms of a migraine headache.

Clean Teeth For Kids

If you hope to avoid painful trips to the dentist with your child, start her on the road to good oral hygiene early. Many kids won't like it, but brushing should be a nonnegotiable part of each day at every age. The difficulty of this activity can vary depending on how well your child cooperates. Some kids love to brush their teeth. Others run and scream the moment the brush comes out. Many parents wonder when to switch to fluoridated toothpaste. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using fluoridated toothpaste as soon as the teeth begin to appear. Before then, you can gently clean the gums with a soft cloth and water.

Instructions

1. If your child is young or is a toddler, put the toothpaste on the toothbrush for him until he can properly use the right amount. Small children should use a tiny smear; preschoolers and kindergarten-age kids should use a pea-sized amount.

2. If your child is old enough, allow her to brush a little on her own as you look on. Provide gentle encouragement and instruction as she does so. For very small children, hold them gently by the chin with one hand and brush with the other.

3. If your child is a toddler or young elementary school student, take over when he is finished and give his teeth a more thorough brushing, starting from the beginning. Even if it looks like he has done a thorough job, kids aren't as dexterous as adults and still can miss many places. Many kids can reliably brush on their own starting at about age 6, but use your best judgment rather than a specific age to help determine the right time.

4. Provide your child a cup of water and allow her to rinse and spit. Many kids like to simply sip and spit, so make sure they learn to swish the water a little to rid the mouth of toothpaste residue.

5. When you're done, brush the tongue. Not only will it clean the tongue, but many kids enjoy this step.

Safety Of Hcg For Weight Loss

The international diet scene has been overwhelmed with the recent popularity of human chorionic gonadotrophic (HCG) hormone injections as a diet aid. Unfortunately, there are some concerns over the effectiveness and safety of using HCG to lose weight.

Safety

While HCG is a naturally occurring hormone in pregnant women, it can cause side effects. HCG has long been used to treat women for fertility problems, who often complained of headaches and "pregnancy symptoms" during treatment.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved HCG for use in dieting, although it recognizes its purpose in fertility treatments. There simply have not been enough studies and tests conducted to measure its effectiveness and safety over an extended period of time. However, the dose of HCG administered in the HCG diet is so small that most participants report no side effects.

Some women who have injected themselves with HCG have developed a dangerous, life-threatening condition known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Trademarked with symptoms of pelvic pain and swelling in the arms or legs, vomiting, diarrhea, and infrequent urination, this disease can be fatal and should be taken very seriously. HCG can also increase a woman's chances of having a multiple pregnancy if she conceives while taking the drug.

The primary danger of the HCG diet lies in the very low-calorie diet required. Participants must maintain a 500-calorie per day diet, which can be dangerous. However, HCG prevents deterioration of muscle mass and increases the energy level of the dieters despite their lack of calories.

Effectiveness

A study conducted at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa revealed that the use of HCG as a diet aid was utterly ineffective. The study was double-blind and placebo-controlled, meaning that the administrators and the patients were unaware of which participants were receiving the saline-based placebo and which were receiving the actual HCG hormone.

Forty obese women were placed on identical diets and received daily injections for six days each week. Researchers studied their psychological profile, hunger level, body circumferences, blood samples, food records, and body weight for six weeks during the study.

The subjects receiving HCG injections displayed no differences in any of the studied areas and reflected weight loss similar to what would be expected on a comparatively restricted diet.

At-Risk Groups

HCG is classified as "category X" by the FDA, which means that it can cause birth defects in a baby if it is used after conception. If a woman becomes pregnant while on the HCG diet, she should stop taking the drug immediately and rely on her own body's production of the pregnancy hormone. Because it is not yet known whether HCG can pass through breast milk, it is not wise to take the drug while breastfeeding.

HCG should not be taken by anyone who has a hormone-related cancer, such as prostate cancer, or any other hormone-related complication, including early-onset puberty.

Additional tests may be needed to establish the safety of HCG for individuals who have a thyroid or adrenal gland disorder, ovarian cysts, uterine bleeding, heart disease, epilepsy, migraines, or asthma.

Make A Rice Heating Pad

Have you ever found yourself in pain and unable to find a heating pad? Well, there is no need to suffer and kick yourself for not having one handy. You can make one using items you already have in your home. Here are my tips on make a rice heating pad.

Instructions

1. Choose a sock or mitten to make the rice pad with. This sock does not necessarily have to be attractive as it will not be seen. In a hurry, you can just grab any sock out of a drawer or use a sock that has lost its match.

2. Fill the sock with standard white rice (whatever you have in your kitchen). Fill it about two thirds full and also add a few eucalyptus leaves. You can purchase decorative dried eucalyptus inexpensively at the hobby store.

3. Sew the rice sock closed using tiny tight stitches so that no rice can spill out.

4. Insert your rice sock it into another sock. You can sew it closed as well or leave the end open so that you can wash it. For your outside sock, you should look for something with a fun pattern. I like to purchase fun striped and patterned socks on clearance sales and keep them to make rice socks for myself and to give them away as gifts.

5. Place your rice sock in a microwave for one minute to heat it up and place it wherever you feel muscular aches and pains. This heating pad will be good to use for a year or two.

Relief For Irritable Bowl Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder that affects the large intestine, and it is sometimes referred to as a spastic or irritable colon. The symptoms of this disorder are abdominal pain, loose bowel movements, diarrhea and constipation. This disorder is difficult to identify because there are no tests that are specifically used for it, which means that doctors look at patients' symptoms to diagnose their conditions. Most people who have this disorder do not seek treatment, and even if they do, there is no cure for it. There are, however, treatments and lifestyle changes that can alleviate the symptoms.

Treatments

To stop patients' diarrhea, doctors often prescribe fiber supplements or laxatives such as Lomatil and Imodium. An increase in their fiber intake, however, can cause abdominal bloating and gas. Antispasmodics are prescribed to help with abdominal pain. Antidepressants such as Motival are sometimes prescribed as pain relievers, regulating symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as diarrhea and constipation. The main problem with antispasmodics and antidepressants is that they can cause constipation to worsen. In order to get muscles in the bladder and intestines to relax, doctors may prescribe medications such as Donnapine and Librax, but they contain a type of sedative that can be habit forming. The only drug that is used specifically to treat irritable bowel syndrome is Lotronex. Lotronex is only given to women with symptoms such as severe diarrhea that lasts six months, severe abdominal pain and frequent bowel urgency. The side effects to this drug include severe constipation and a decrease in blood flow toward the colon.

One alternative therapy is probiotics. These are live microorganisms that are similar to those that are found within the human stomach. They are mainly found in foods and dietary supplements, such as Natren's Health Trinity capsule. Probiotics have not been clinically tested. Another alternative treatment is peppermint oil in capsule and liquid forms. It has been found to be effective in very small doses. There is some evidence that the side effects of peppermint oil are allergic reactions and heartburn.

Diet

People with IBS often find relief by changing their diets, especially if they eat more high fiber foods. Doctors recommend that patients increase their fiber intake to about 2 to 3 grams per day. To get more fiber, you should eat at least 2 cups of fruit and 2 ½ cups of vegetables a day. You can get in a variety of produce, like beans, raspberries, apples, sweet potatoes and prunes. You can also get fiber in whole grain breads, cereals and brown rice. Add fiber to your diet gradually so that you do not experience bloating, cramping and gas. Eating more yogurt can also help relieve gas and bloating, because yogurt contains lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, two types of "good" bacteria that are found within your large intestine. Drink more water to bring relief from symptoms such as diarrhea.

People with IBS should stay away from foods and beverages that worsen their condition, often including wheat, barley, rye, chocolate and milk products. Keep track of what foods cause symptoms to worsen and reduce or eliminate these foods from your diet.

Stress Relief

Along with changes in diet, doctors may also recommend exercises and activities that reduce stress in people's lives. Stress can cause IBS symptoms to appear or worsen because the colon can respond negatively to stress. Doctors may recommend stress reduction activities such as meditation and yoga, aerobic exercises such as walking and swimming, and counseling.

What Are The Remedies For Sciatic Pain

The most extreme ways to relieve sciatic pain can involve surgeries, injections or even acupuncture. If invasive remedies like these are not to your liking, there are a few home remedies and professional strategies that could help relieve sciatic pain. Among them are core strengthening, stretching supporting muscles and visiting the chiropractor.

Core Strengthening

Sometimes relieving sciatica pain and pressure involves strengthening and stretching the surrounding muscle structures. By using body weight resistance training like Pilates on the upper back and core muscles, sciatic pain could be minimized. One Pilates example is the "100" exercise. Begin by lying on your back, with your upper legs pointing straight up and your lower legs pointing straight out. Sit up without losing your leg position and place your arms by your sides. Lift your arms until they are parallel to the floor and then hold this position for a 100-count, hence the name. Breathe deeply as needed to maintain your support so that your legs and core will continue to receive oxygen. For an added challenge, press your hands down and up for each count.

Manual Manipulation

Manual manipulation involves physically adjusting bones to put them in proper alignment. This is accomplished by chiropractors, osteopathic physicians or physical therapists. Chiropractors tend to believe that sciatica pain is the result of subluxation, which is misaligned spine bones putting pressure onto nerves. Their treatment could involve a full examination (to include X-rays) to determine where the pressure source is coming from. The chiropractor would position your body and manually adjust your spinal alignment two or three times a week. They could also recommend massage therapy to help alleviate any muscle spasms as your nerves may react to the newly opened pathway.

Hamstring Stretch

Another support muscle that can help relieve sciatica pain is the hamstring. It runs along the back of the upper thigh and if it's pulling tight, it can pull the pelvic bone closer to the piriformis muscle, which sits on top of the sciatic nerve. Stretch the hamstring by first lying on your back with the left knee pointing up and left foot flat. Your right leg should lay straight with toes pointed up. Without bending your right knee, lift your right leg straight up as high as possible. Your left leg should maintain its position. Sit up and grab as close to your ankle as possible. Hold this position for 30 seconds and then switch legs. Breathe deeply as needed while you are holding your leg. Two stretches a day could show immediate pain relief.

Memory Foam Mattress Pros & Cons

Memory Foam Mattress Pros & Cons

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) revolutionized bedding as we know it. This non-toxic, visco-elastic material, initially used to relieve astronauts from forces of limited gravity, was constructed to correct poor sleeping posture resulting from mattresses unable to conform to a person's shape. Memory foam contours to a person's body shape, reducing pressure on the spine. While brand names like Temper-Pedic and Sealy produce quality memory foam mattresses, there are certain disadvantages that neeed to be considered before an investment. With proper research however, choosing the right memory foam mattress could produce exceptional health benefits.

Quality of Sleep

The quality of sleep varies with a memory foam mattress. The pros of having a memory foam is that sleepers benefit from the mattress being able to conform to their body, allowing the spine to align in spite of a person's body type, height and weight. The long-term benefits of using a memory foam mattress reduces chronic back discomfort. Memory foam mattress also reduce any disrupted sleep from partners that move throughout the night.

The cons to any memory foam it is temperature sensitive. The mattress can become too firm if room conditions are too cool and too soft if room conditions are too warm, making it not the most ideal bedding for chronic hot flash sufferers. A firm memory mattress can become uncomfortable when temperatures rise because it interferes with the 'moulding' characteristic -- it does not have enough density to conform to a person's frame.

Sleep Posture

The memory foam mattress can dramatically decrease chronic back and neck pain in many sleepers. The memory foam mattress better aligns with your body's shape more than a coil mattress would, reducing pressure point problems, and according to Memory Foam Information, it can realign the spine, neck, hips, and lesson chronic respiratory conditions by correcting breathing during sleep.

The downside to the memory foam mattress is that it does not conform well to a petite frame (any person weighing under 100 pounds) because the body is too light for moulding to take effect. The mattress can become too firm if room temperatures are too cool. Unfortunately, the memory foam mattress do not have an adjustable option.

Durability

The disadvantage to the memory foam's is that its durability does not last as long as a regular coil mattress. Because of its high density composition, the memory foam wears out quicker, and on average, needs to be replaced every five to eight years.

One the other hand, the memory foam is highly resilient, making it better able to withstand and neutralize motion better during sleep.

Expense

The memory foam can be relatively expensive, ranging in price from $1000 to $2500, and can be even higher depending on brand and size. The investments can be worthwhile, like a reduction in chiropractic and medical expenses from back and breathing problems associated from poor sleeping posture. Even though the memory foam mattress has exceptional health benefits, its durability is lower than other mattresses, causing more investments to go into maintenance or a full out mattress replacement. Ask about any money back guarantees or warranties before investing in memory foam mattress.

Prepare For Acupuncture Treatment

Prepare For Acupuncture Treatment

Rooted in ancient Chinese traditions, acupuncture involves piercing the body with needles at prescribed points to promote or restore health and wellness. Acupuncture has been used to treat a wide range of maladies, including allergies, asthma, depression and addictions.

Instructions

Prepare for Acupuncture Treatment

1. Go in with a positive attitude. Visit the Acupuncture.com Web site to read about what acupuncture treatments entail (see Resources below). More importantly, the site offers you the opportunity to read testimonials written by those who've had success with acupuncture. Their stories will help you prepare for your treatment with the sort of attitude that attracts success.

2. Dress comfortably. Acupuncture needles may remain inserted in your body for 30 minutes or more, so it's important that you wear an outfit you're able to relax in. Also, you should wear something that offers easy access to the elbows and knees, since these are common acupuncture points.

3. Have a light meal. Acupuncturists recommend against undergoing treatment on an empty stomach, so be sure to eat 2 to 4 hours before your session. Heavy meals are a no-no before treatment and are not recommended.

4. Get a good night's sleep. Extreme fatigue can compromise the effectiveness of your acupuncture treatment. The night before your treatment, don't skimp on slumber. This will help ensure that you arrive fully rested.

5. Prepare to expand your knowledge of acupuncture by reading "Acupuncture for Everyone: What It Is, Why It Works, and How It Can Help You" by Dr. Ruth Kidson (see Resources below).

Hepatitis C Infection Symptoms

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. There are more types of hepatitis being discovered as time goes on, but the three most common types are hepatitis A, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Hepatitis C can be acute or chronic. Many acute cases become chronic.

Transmission and Risk Factors

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is transmitted through blood. Some of the main risk factors of transmission are injection drug use, sexual intercourse, blood transfusions before 1992, hemodialysis and needle sticks.

Acute Hepatitis C Symptoms

Acute hepatitis C often has no symptoms. Sometimes mild symptoms do appear; they include flu-like symptoms, nausea, poor appetite and abdominal pain.

Chronic Hepatitis C Symptoms

Chronic hepatitis C symptoms can include jaundice, ascites and bruising from cirrhosis once it has progressed.

Diagnosis

Because there are often nosymptoms or mild symptoms, diagnosis of hepatitis C often does not occur until advanced liver disease is present. Blood tests that look for HCV antibodies, which would likely indicate hepatitis C is present, are used for diagnosis; if no antibodies are present and hepatitis C is still suspected, RNA testing is performed.

Treatment

A combination drug treatment of peginterferon (Pegasys or Pegintron) and Ribavirin is used to treat hepatitis C. There is no hepatitis C vaccine.

Surprising Uses For Curry Powder

Curry powder does not need to be reserved for special occasion dishes.

Curry powder is a blend of several spices, herbs and seeds. It is frequently used in traditional Indian cooking. However, there are several other uses for curry powder that can spice up an average dinner anywhere or add a kick to an everyday dessert. Some may even improve the user's health.

Comfort Food

Curry powder can enhance the flavor of many foods. Adding 1 tbsp or two of the spice blend into traditional American comfort foods, like meatloaf, to give it a spicy and pungent twist. The spices also blend into soups, stews and pasta. Sprinkle the powder to taste (as you would with salt or pepper) into beef stew, spaghetti sauce or pasta salad.

Fruit and Chocolate

Chef Shawn McClain, winner of a 2006 James Beard award and owner of the Chicago restaurants Spring and Green Zebra, is a proponent of curry powder on fruits. Allrecipes.com quotes McClain saying, "We like to combine curry with fruits such as apples, bananas and passion fruit, and sweeter flavors like vanilla." McClain also said the restaurants serve a Maine lobster spring roll with passion fruit-curry sauce. Katrina Markoff, owner of Vosges Haute Chocolat, utilized curry powder in her first exotic chocolate bar. She went on to add curry to chocolate bars, truffles, ice cream and chocolate-covered fruit pieces.

Anticancer Nutrient

A study reported by the Cork Cancer Research Centre in Ireland in 2009 talked about potent anticancer nutrients in curry powder spices. It specifically focused on the compound curcumin, which is found in turmeric. Turmeric is the spice in the powder that gives curry powder its potent yellow color. Sharon McKenna was the lead author of the study. "Scientists have known for a long time that natural compounds have the potential to treat faulty cells that have become cancerous," she said at a press conference in 2009. "We suspected that curcumin might have therapeutic value."

Toothpaste and More

In 2004, Japan became the first country to put curry-flavored toothpaste on sale. David Jago, an executive from an English marketing firm, said in a BBC report that exotic-flavored toothpastes like curry "fits perfectly with the increasing demand for personal, customized solutions." Curry has also been used as a fragrance in the Herbology Collection by Demeter, as a soda flavor in Japan, and ice cream. The Vosges ice cream curry version mixes it with coconut milk and chilies among other things.

Blood Pressure Disorders

Blood Pressure Disorders

One of the most silent killers in the health world are blood pressure disorders. With few distinct warning signs, blood pressure disorders can easily have devastating consequences when left untreated. This is why blood pressure disorders are often referred to as the "silent killer." In the United States it is believed that less than 70 percent of Americans that have blood pressure disorders have had them diagnosed. Even with that high of a percentage diagnosed, only about 58 percent of that number have been able to successfully control their blood pressure (Merck.com).

Blood Regulation

Blood regulation is an important aspect of the human body. Blood is largely regulated by the body and moved by the heart. The body can regulate how much blood is in the system at any time as well as the size of the arteries. The heart works to pump this blood throughout the body. It can also change the blood pressure at any time to force more or less blood through the body by pumping faster or harder.

Causes of Disorders

As the heart increases or decreases in speed, the blood pressure in the body is similarly affected. However, if the arteries are too constricted or if there are blockages in the arteries, blood pressure can increase even further. Veins can also contribute to increased blood pressure by constricting and forcing more blood into the arteries. Blood pressure disorders can also happen when the heart is unable to beat fast enough, or the veins and arteries dilate and lower the blood pressure. Normally the body has measures in place to counteract the extremes in blood pressure by increasing or decreasing the blood volume in the body, or changing the speed and force in which the heart is beating. Factors such as kidney issues, inability to remove salt from the blood, hormonal disorders or plaque-blocked arteries can overcome these safeguards and cause blood pressure disorders.

Hypertension

Hypertension is blood pressure levels that are too high. Hypertension can be either primary or secondary. About 80-90 percent of hypertension sufferers suffer from primary hypertension. This disorder is caused when the functions that change blood pressure all act at once. This means that the heart begins to pump harder at the same time as the blood vessels constrict. Normally only one function happens at a time to keep the blood pressure regulated. Secondary hypertension is much rarer than primary hypertension and is usually caused by a kidney malfunction. When the kidney is harmed whether through disease or accident, the body's ability to remove salt and water from the body is compromised. This increases the blood volume in the body, which in turn increases the blood pressure. Hypertension in either form increases the risk for heart disease, heart attack and stroke.

Hypotension

Hypotension is blood pressure that is too low. Low blood pressure can happen for a variety of reasons including pregnancy, medications with side effects that lower blood pressure, bradycardia, heart valve problems, underactive thyroid, blood loss or a severe infection. Moderate low blood pressure usually only causes a feeling of weakness and dizziness. However, when blood pressure gets too low, oxygen is unable to get to the body fast enough. Once your body is deprived of necessary oxygen, serious heart and brain damage can occur. Low blood pressure may also cause varicose veins. Varicose veins are bulbous veins that develop when pools of blood are allowed to settle. If there is not enough pressure in the blood, blood pools can become much more common, increasing the chances of developing varicose veins.

Aggravating Factors

Certain factors such as obesity, risky lifestyle behaviors and diet can aggravate blood pressure disorders. For high blood pressure, exercising for at least 30 minutes a day, quitting smoking and eating a healthy low salt diet full of fiber, fruits and vegetables can help curb blood pressure problems, and in many cases can help revert much of the damage caused by the disorder. For low blood pressure, increasing salt intake and drinking more water may help increase blood pressure. In severe cases blood pressure prescription medications may be prescribed both for high and low blood pressure.

What Determines Libido And Sexual Functioning

A healthy libido is essential for sexual functioning.

Libido is a psychological term for sex drive, or how often a person is interested in having sex. It plays a huge part in sexual functioning because when the sex drive is low, you are unlikely to be in the mood for intimacy. Many issues affect the libido and understanding some of them can help keep your sex life on track, or determine if intervention is necessary.

Gender

While there is no right or wrong amount of sex to have, there is the claim that women simply don't need sex as often as men. An article in "Marie Claire" magazine reads, "As it turns out (surprise, surprise) ... studies indicate that men want sex more than women do." This could be, however, due to the fact that a woman's sexual functioning is challenged by things like pregnancy and breastfeeding, issues with which men don't have to contend.

Medical Conditions

A woman who has undergone a hysterectomy due to medical complications might also have trouble with her libido. Some medical conditions are not gender specific, though. Men and women both suffer from stress and high blood pressure, each known to decrease sex drive. Discussing sexual health concerns with a medical professional will help determine the cause of low sex drive.

Relationship Chemistry

A good relationship can make sexual functioning easier.

The relationship you have with your partner will play a role in libido. Being physically attracted to a person often helps with sexual desire. The healthier a relationship is, the more likely it is that more sex will result. Staying in a bad relationship is much more likely to cause low sexual functioning. Communication is an essential part of a good relationship. The ability to discuss sex openly and honestly can improve how often it occurs. Good communication can also help partners decide what course of action should be take if something seems amiss.

Medication

Medications used to treat high blood pressure are also known to negatively affect libido. However, there are performance enhancers, like Viagara and Cialis, which are specifically marketed as having the ability to increase sexual functioning in men. When attending a doctor's appointments, take a complete list of all medications being taken, the dosages and how often they are being used. Be honest with the doctor about the use of prescriptions, alcohol and street drugs, so the doctor has an accurate picture and can help you achieve optimal sexual functioning.

Prevent Diabetic Neuropathy

According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetic neuropathy is "the presence of symptoms and/or signs of peripheral nerve dysfunction in people with diabetes." Diabetic neuropathy should be suspected in all patients with Type 2 diabetes and in patients who have had Type 1 diabetes for more than five years. There are several classes of diabetic neuropathies, including sensory neuropathies and autonomic neuropathies. The most common complications of diabetic neuropathy are foot ulcers and foot amputation.

Instructions

1. Detect diabetes early. Early diagnosis of diabetes facilitates proper glycemic control in the early stages of diabetes and can prevent diabetic neuropathy.

2. Control your blood sugar. Clinical trials showed that keeping mean blood glucose level below 155 mg per dl led to a 60 percent reduction in the risk of developing diabetic neuropathy.

3. Inspect your feet daily. Check for fissures, dry skin, fissures, plantar callus formation and infection around the toenails, and between the toes.

4. Use proper and comfortable footwear. Consult a podiatrist for buy properly fitted shoes. This will help to prevent issues, such as calluses and corns.

5. Avoid sources and causes of possible ulceration, such as exposing your feet to hot objects or walking barefoot. Avoid application of topical ointments to intertriginous areas.

6. Have your physician examine your feet annually for skin breaks, delayed capillary refilling, protective sensation and bony deformities.

Use Nasal Cannula

Sometimes people need extra oxygen whether they suffer from serious medical conditions or just need temporary help. Many types of equipment help deliver oxygen and each vary in terms of placement, oxygen delivery, and oxygen flow. Of the many types of airway devices, the nasal cannula is great choice because it is easy to use. Despite the simplicity of placing a nasal cannula, there are specific steps to follow.

Instructions

1. Connect the nasal cannula to the oxygen tank via the bubbler (a device that allows oxygen to pass from the tank to the tubing more easily).

2. After connecting the nasal cannula to the oxygen tank, turn on the oxygen tank. Oxygen flows in liter amounts. Make sure the dial is set to the amount your doctor indicated. Consult your doctor if you are not sure.

3. When the oxygen tank is on, make sure oxygen is freely flowing through the nasal cannula. Two prongs are located in the middle of the tubing. Wave your hand in front of the prongs. You should feel oxygen flow.

4. If you do not feel oxygen flow, check the equipment. Sometimes, the nasal cannula can be filled with mucus, the oxygen tank is empty or the parts are not connected right.

5. Once oxygen is flowing through the nasal cannula, place the two middle prongs inside the person's nose and follow the rest of the tubing and place behind the patient's ears.

6. Once the nasal cannula is fastened, tape the nasal cannula to the skin to make sure it is secure.

Who Invented The Hearing Aid

People throughout the ages have used whatever means they could to amplify sound, with mixed results. In the 19th century, a series of improvements on pre-existing devices led to the development of the modern hearing aid.

Early Hearing Aids

The first hearing aids helped amplify sound through a hand-held trumpet or horn. They were made of animal horns, wood or metal.

First Patent

According to MyHearingAids.net, Englishman Alphonsus William Webster received the first patent for a hearing aid in 1836. His invention was a curved earpiece to be worn behind the ear to help amplify sound.

Hearing Device

In 1880 R.G. Rhodes was granted a patent for a device that helped conduct sound to the auditory nerve by placing a piece of cardboard or rubber against the teeth.

Electric Hearing Aids

Americans M.G. Foster and Francis D. Clarke received a patent for the first electric hearing aid in 1880. The Device for Aiding the Deaf to Hear amplified sound to help vibrations reach the inner ear.

Acousticon

Miller Reese Hutchinson invented the Acousticon, a precursor of today's electric hearing aid, in 1901.

Recipe For Massage Lotion & Oil

Fragrances, colors and herbs can make your massage oil unique.

Massage and massage therapy is a popular way to relieve stress and to heal muscle and joint pain. Although there are a number of commercial massage lotions and oils available, it is possible to make massage lotions and oils at home.

Carrier Oils

The base of a massage oil or lotion is called a carrier oil. Although exotic, scented oils are available, light oil like grapeseed oil can be used. Other oils that can be used as a base, or added to grapeseed oil, include sweet almond, apricot or avocado oil. Borage oil is less common, but castor oil and coconut oil make good carrier oils. Once you have settled on your carrier oil, or combination of carrier oils, herbs and scents can enhance your massage oil. The type of carrier oil you choose may affect the fragrances and herbs that you add to the oil. Choosing a scent-neutral oil like grapeseed or castor will allow the widest range of scents to be added. However, if you are wanting to start with a strong scent base, something like almond oil is a good start.

Fragrances

Fragrances can be very powerful. Whether you are combining aromatherapy with massage or simply creating a fragrant oil to help with relaxation, aromas will affect the feel of the massage. You could go so far as to make your own essential oils from things like lavender or sage, but there are many places to buy premade essential oils. By buying your essential oils, you open up a range of possible scents that includes, among many others, angelica root, bergamot, cardamom or vanilla. For more sensual oils, consider using several scents like coconut, lime and vanilla.

Herbal Ingredients

For an unusual massage oil, herbs can be added to the carrier oil in addition to fragrances and essential oils. Add a sprig of any number of spices to the base and let it sit for a couple of weeks until the essence of the spice infuses into the oil. Lemongrass or thyme can add a touch of beauty and fragrance to your oil. A bottle of massage oil with a sprig of fresh herb can make a good gift.

Manage Creutzfeldtjakob Disease

Creutzfeldt-Jackob diseases, or CJD, is a degenerative brain disorder that eventually progresses into dementia. The symptoms of CJD are similar to that of Alzheimer's and Huntington's; however, CJD usually is more rapid in the development of dementia. Although CJD is very rare, its public awareness was raised when cases of mad cow disease were appearing in the UK. The management of CJD has been a rather controversial subject matter; however, it is possible to manage this disease.

Instructions

Stop

1. Stop taking any medications that could possibly be affecting your memory or cause confusion. You may need to visit a neurologist where he will tell you about either discontinuing or switching your current medication.

2. Ask your physician about medications that will alleviate the different types of symptoms that you are experiencing from CJD. He will be able to give you the appropriate medication that will help ease your symptoms. For example, if you start experiencing the onset of seizures, you may be given drugs to help control them.

3. Inquire about possible clinical trails that you can participate in if your symptoms are severe. There are always multiple studies involving the use of steroids and other medications and their affects on those with CJD. Clinical trails are very risky, especially ones that include the use of therapeutic drugs. Therefore, consult with your physician before you participate and agree to a clinical trail, since you may experience both benefits and severe adverse side affects.

Choose A Chiropracter

Choose a Chiropracter

A Chiropractor is a good choice for someone looking for alternative treatment for back problems and a variety of other conditions. Chiropractors range in practice from those who simply treat neck, back and spine to those who have practices devoted to the overall health of their patients.

Instructions

1. Talk to friends and neighbors who see a Chiropractor about their experience with their doctor. Chances are if they like her you will be comfortable as well.

2. Visit a Chiropractor before you have pain for an initial appointment. The doctor should do an evaluation using x-rays and other evaluation tools to get an overall picture of your spinal health.

3. Discuss a treatment plan based on the Chiropractor's findings.

4. Have your first adjustment. A good Chiropractor will be very aware of your level of pain. A Chiropractic adjustment should not hurt as a general rule.

5. Decide after your first consultation and adjustment if you think that this particular Chiropractor is a good fit for you. You will work closely with this individual for treatment and maintenance and if you're not comfortable, you won't get the most benefit from the process.

6. Make sure the Chiropractor you are seeing is certified by the American Chiropractic Association.

7. Continue meeting other Chiropractors until you find one that is right for you. Never settle for someone who causes you more pain, makes symptoms worse or refuses to work with other healthcare professionals.

Become A Crystal Healing Practitioner

Crystals, gems, and minerals contain healing energies just as herbs do. Although herbal healing has been studied and brought into the sphere of traditional medicine, the science and study of crystal healing has largely been left to the realm of alternative medicine. Crystal-healing practitioners must often take obscure routes in order to learn and practice their profession.

Instructions

1. Collect one stone for each of the seven chakras, as listed above, plus a quartz crystal to boost the energy and effectiveness of them all. Choose specific pieces of stone that feel good in your hands. You can use rough, faceted, or tumbled stones for healing work, according to your personal preferences.

2. Study each stone's healing properties by using the references listed below. Take notes on each of these eight stones in your notebook.

3. Meditate on each stone, in turn. Hold it in your hands as you open yourself to its healing energies and rhythms. Record your experiences and insights in your notebook.

4. Activate the healing energy of each stone by placing it on yourself over its respective chakra. Bring your personal energy to that chakra, allowing it and the stone's energies to interact.

5. Practice crystal healing on yourself by placing the appropriate stone on a given chakra that is impaired. For instance, place the amethyst at your crown, the lapis lazuli at your third eye, and hold the quartz crystal to treat a headache. Keep records of what does and doesn't work for you.

6. Perform several months of case studies with friends and family who are suffering from chronic impairments. Keep records of their impressions and their healing experience over time.

7. Advertise for local clients after you have demonstrated proficiency with the stones and crystals. Continue to keep detailed records, and be sure to advise them to seek traditional medical treatment in conjunction with this and any other alternative healing practices you may offer.

Get Rid Of Under Eye Dark Circles Naturally

Eliminate the appearance of dark under-eye circles naturally.

Dark under-eye circles can make the most beautiful face seem tired. According to the Mayo Clinic, dark under-eye circles are round areas of darkened pigmentation found underneath the eye. These circles are caused by sun exposure, eczema, nasal congestion, smoking, over-consumption of alcohol and a thinning of the area directly below the eyes. These dark areas can be removed naturally at home without the need for costly, and potentially dangerous, medical treatments.

Instructions

Potato and Cucumber Juice

1. Peel the skin from one small, raw potato. Cut the potato into several small pieces.

2. Peel the skin from one small, raw cucumber. Cut the cucumber into several small pieces.

3. Place the small potato and cucumber pieces into a small bowl and crush them into a mash with a potato masher.

4. Place the crushed potato and cucumber mash into a strainer. Hold the strainer over a small bowl and apply pressure to the mush with the fork to extract the juice. Keep the juice, discard the dry mush.

5. Soak a cotton ball in the juice. Gently dab the area under the eyes with the cotton ball and allow the juice to sit for 15 minutes.

6. Soak a cotton ball in cool water. Dab the under-eye area to remove the cucumber and potato juice.

Chilled Rose Water

7. Pour 1 cup of rose water into a small bowl.

8. Place the bowl into the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

9. Dip two cotton balls into the chilled rose water and place one under each eye.

10. Allow the rosewater-soaked cotton balls to remain for 15 to 20 minutes. The cool rosewater will soothe the area under the eyes and lessen the appearance of dark circles and puffiness.

Other Methods

11. Dip a cotton ball into almond oil and massage the area under the eyes once a day for two weeks.

12. Avoid smoking, excessive intake of alcohol and caffeine and over-consumption of salty foods. All of these can accentuate the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

13. Wrap a bag of frozen vegetables, such as peas or corn, in a small towel. Hold the cold compress under the eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. The cold will help reduce the puffiness that is often associated with dark under-eye circles.

14. Elevate your head while sleeping. Place a extra pillow under your head to help prevent the puffiness and dark circles that occur when liquid pools under the eyes.

How Does Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Your Body

Apple Cider Vinegar

Vinegar is a highly potent all-purpose product that is used for everything from preserving foods and meats to killing weeds and cleaning coffee pots. Apple cider vinegar is a fermented product made from pulverized apples that first ferment into alcohol and then into vinegar. The end result is a "sour wine" that is beneficial to improve health, level blood sugar and wash toxins from the body. Apples contain a healthy dose of potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and other beneficial vitamins and minerals. When apples are fermented into apple cider vinegar, it can be used to rid the body of harmful toxins that circulate through the body.

An Apple a Day

Apple cider helps the body break down fat, mucous and phlegm. These substances slow down the body's natural cleansing organs--the liver, bladder and kidneys--which have to sort out the substances while trying to eliminate other toxins. When a person takes apple cider vinegar, which will break down these more substantial materials found in the body, her body is better able to process more serious toxins as well. Essentially apple cider vinegar frees the liver, bladder and kidneys to process other toxins.

Digest, Eliminate and Clean

Apple cider vinegar is also a great way to assist the body's natural elimination process. Healthy digestion and elimination lend themselves toward detoxification because the body is better able to break down foods and then eliminate toxins and nonessential food matter. Apple cider vinegar promotes digestion, assists the body in the breakdown process and encourages elimination. These are very important for healthy detoxification.

Apple cider vinegar breaks down toxins that cause boils, blisters and acne. As a strong disinfectant apple cider vinegar purifies the blood and attacks gallstones, kidney stones and other toxins that may result from spoiled food.

Symptoms That Colon Cancer Is Back

The colon, which is another name for the large intestine, is part of the body's digestive system. The colon helps in absorbing vitamins, protein, water, fats and carbohydrates. In some cases colon tissue will start to grow uncontrollably, which causes colon cancer. While colon cancer can be treated, sometimes some of the damaged cells are not eliminated, which can cause the colon cancer to come back.

Bowel Movement Symptoms

Some of the earliest symptoms that colon cancer has come back is a change in bowel movements. Bowel movements may happen more frequently but be of a smaller volume. They may also be thin or watery. Another symptom that bowel cancer has come back is that blood or mucus could be mixed in with the stool.

Other Gastrointestinal Symptoms

Other symptoms of colon cancer recurring can be found in other parts of the digestive system. They include abdominal pain, bloating and cramps. Patients may also feel full, even when not having eaten. They may also experience acid reflux and indigestion.

Systemic Symptoms

Other symptoms that can indicate the cancer has come back can affect the entire body. People who have had their colon cancer come back suddenly have no appetite. They will also experience a sudden and unexplained weight loss as a result of the cancer needing so much energy. Finally, they may feel tired all the time.

Symptoms of Metastases

Colon cancer, when it comes back, can spread to other organs. If it spreads to the liver, it can cause pain in the upper right part of the abdomen as well as swelling. When it spreads to the lungs, it may cause difficulty breathing, coughing and possibly coughing up blood. Those are the two most common sites for the cancer to spread.

Diagnosis

Often, if a physician suspects that colon cancer has returned, she will ask for a CT scan or an MRI. This test will help visualize any lumps or abnormal growths that may indicate that the colon cancer has returned. Generally, your physician will want to confirm this suspicion by getting a biopsy of one of the suspected tumors.

Cancer Pain Treatments

As tumors begin to grow, the growth can cause pressure upon the nerve cells and make them susceptible to the sensation of pain. Destruction of tissue, spreading of the cancer or the area where the cancer started to grow can also create pain. According to Dr. Timothy Moynihan of the Mayo Clinic, one in every three cancer patients will experience some form of pain, and those who have either advanced stages of cancer or recurring cancer will also suffer more. There are methods of pain control, but it is important to speak with your medical physician to find which method of treatment is best for you.

Analgesics

Analgesics are medications such as Tylenol that are used when your pain is mild to moderate. They are used to treat pain and fever, though they do not help with inflammation. Never take more than the recommended dosage as liver damage can occur. It is important to speak with your doctor if you are taking Tylenol. If you run a fever from chemotherapy, taking Tylenol can mask the sign of possible infection.

NSAIDs

NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, are those that help to control pain and inflammation. These types of medications may be ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin or aspirin. According to the National Cancer Institute, NSAIDs can prevent your blood from clotting properly, as well as cause bleeding of the stomach. At times, NSAIDs are prescribed with opioids to manage moderate pain.

Effects of NSAIDS

NSAIDs can make your stomach upset. It is important to not take these kind of medications if you have a known kidney or heart problem as this can exacerbate your condition. Never take NSAIDs if your are on any anti-cancer medications that cause bleeding. If you experience dark stools, bleeding from your rectum, nausea, heartburn, or you cough up blood, discontinue the NSAID and speak with your doctor immediately. This is a serious complication as a result of the medication.

Opioids

Opioids refer to stronger drugs used in pain management. Such drugs may include codeine, morphine, methadone and oxycodone. Opioids are strong narcotics and highly addictive. It is important to discuss the risk of taking opioids. According to Science Daily, high doses of opioids are usually needed to properly manage cancer pain. When this is done, a person can become addicted to the drug and require more to achieve effective management. As a result, one can develop a tolerance toward the drug.

Effects of Opioids

Opioids can cause many side effects. If you use opioids heavily, constipation is the most common side effect. Nausea/vomiting can also occur once you have begun an opioid treatment. An antiemetic, or medications that can reduce nausea/vomiting, can be prescribed to combat the effects of sickness. Extreme tiredness is also common, as well as respiratory depression. However, respiratory depression can be a serious condition that can result in death. This is usually a result of abusing opioids by taking too many.

Other Options

Other treatment options may be used in combination with pain medications. Antidepressants are sometimes used to treat tingling and burning that is associated with pain. Pain occurs when damage has been done from surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. Steroids may also be given to treat swelling. Anti-seizure drugs can also be used to help with tingling and burning sensations.
