Use Vitamins For Anger And Depression

Depression and anger issues are common in our fast paced world today. Often, both excess anger and depression have their roots in the fact that we simply are not providing our bodies and minds with the nutritional content we need in order to function at full capacity. Here are some ways to utilize vitamin supplements to deal with anger and depression and thus restore a balanced mood and outlook on life.

Instructions

1. Get a checkup. Anger and depression can be symptoms of many different types of ailments in addition to poor nutrition. Once you have been assured by a healthcare professional that the source of your problem is not due to some type of disease that is disrupting the proper function of the body, you can take steps to include vitamins in your treatment process.

2. Ask for bloodwork to be conducted. The goal here is to find out which vitamins appear to be low in your system. This will provide you with some guidelines about which specific vitamins would provide the most benefit for you at this time. Your doctor can help you determine what to take and what not to take.

3. Assess your current life situation. Your anger and depression may be due to stress at work, in a relationship or due to some recent catastrophic event that you are still attempting to process. If any of these types of situations exist, they are likely depleting certain vitamins in your body even if you are getting the current recommended daily allowance in your diet.

4. Get assistance with setting the dosage. While vitamins are natural, that does not mean you can take huge amounts without running the risk of negative side effects. Your doctor can help you set initial daily dosages and also give you some tips on adjusting the dosages if necessary.

Ayurvedic Tips For Pregnancy

For those who practice Ayurveda, preparation for pregnancy is taken very seriously. The sperm and ova are primed for optimal quality, and the environment within the woman's body is prepped for successfully holding the pregnancy. In this holistic tradition, both partners must take specific steps to adequately prepare for the conception of their child-to-be and follow specific precautions during conception to ensure the overall well-being of the child after it is born.

Preconception Preparations

The female who is ready to conceive is also referred to as the "wisewoman." She must first make certain that her eggs are as healthy as possible by following certain guidelines prior to her pregnancy. For example, Ayurvedic tradition emphasizes that during a woman's menstrual period she should focus on rest and self-healing. Maintaining excellent nutrition and following a meditative relaxation practice during the woman's menses is highly recommended. During ovulation, the woman should be especially careful to avoid imbalancing activities or foods.

Any disease or uterine abnormality must be cleared up before the pregnancy to ensure optimal health for the child. Any infections or venereal diseases in the man must be cleared as well before conception.

Through a practice known as pancha karma, both partners take measures to make sure that their bodies are brought into balance. Under the supervision of a trained Ayurvedic practitioner the couple may undergo seven days of heavy sweating and skin oiling techniques.

Parents are encouraged to fill their minds with the thoughts and feelings that they want their child to experience. This allows a soul with that particular visualized energy to become attracted to the couple.

Ayurveda teaches that proper timing for conception is essential to avoid imbalances being passed on in the child. Specific body constitutions should conceive their child at specific times of the year: For those with Vata constitution, summer and spring is recommended for conception. Kapha parents should conceive in the fall and Pitta parents should conceive in the winter. A couple should never make love during an eclipse, especially for conception purposes.

Conceiving the Child

Ayurveda teaches that making love to conceive a child is a sacred act, so intercourse to conceive a child should be focused on a time when a "wished result" will occur. Excessive intercourse is believed to weaken the life force of the parents, which can in turn cause the child to have a weakened immune system. Too much sex is said to also cause a diminished sperm count, which is counterproductive.

During the lovemaking process, the desired child should be visualized. The surroundings in the room should reflect qualities that the couple wishes the child to have. The couple's emotional state should reflect love and peacefulness. Neither partner should be angry, grieving or in love with someone else. Ayurveda teaches that any of these mental states may block conception or negatively affect the development of the child-to-be.

The most "balanced" position for a couple to conceive a child is with the woman positioned on her back. Any drugs or alcohol used during conception are believed to directly affect the well-being of the child. The woman must make sure that she has not fasted or overeaten; nor should she be thirsty.

Tens Unit Help Neck Pain

How Does a TENS Unit Help Neck Pain?

Introduction

A Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) unit is a tool commonly used both in the home as well as in alternative wellness centers and chiropractic offices to help relieve muscle pain. When affixed to the skin, the unit emits low-level electrical impulses that penetrate deep into the muscles, helping to relieve pain.

Electrical Pulses

TENS units put out between 80 and 90 megahertz (MHz) in each pulse. The unit produces these electrical pulses and directs them through wires into electrodes that are placed on the skin above the affected neck muscles. The strength of the pulse can be manipulated by manually changing the setting on the dial until the effects of the pulse can be felt.

Nerve Impulses

When pain occurs in a neck muscle, electrical pain signals are sent from the surrounding nerves through the nervous system to the brain. The brain then interprets these signals as pain originating from the neck. When a TENS unit is turned on, the electrical impulses of the unit interrupt the pain impulses being sent to the brain. As long as the pain signal does not reach the brain, you will not feel the neck pain.

Nerve Fibers

A TENS unit works by specifically targeting the large nerve fibers of the body. Pain travels through the smaller nerve fibers, but it is the large nerve fibers that can close off the signals of the small nerve fibers at the spinal cord. This is called the "gate control theory of pain" since the large fibers when interrupted by a TENS electrical impulse act as a gateway that can shut off the signals from the small nerve fibers .

Liposuction For Men

Men are turning to cosmetic surgery to lose weight, look younger and tone their bodies more than ever. While men and women both turn to liposuction procedures to reverse the signs of aging on their faces, women tend to use the procedure for their legs and thighs, while men are more concerned about core sculpting.

Male Preferences

The primary place that men look to reduce through liposuction is around their middles. Mid-life stomach bulge is the number one procedure men ask for from plastic surgeons.

Costs

Liposuction treatments for men typically are more expensive than for women because the area around the stomach is usually larger and the fat more fibrous, requiring more time and energy to suck it all out.

Breasts

Men who suffer from a condition called gynocomastia, which is an abnormal enlargement of the breasts, turn to liposuction to make their chests look more masculine.

Weight

Cosmetic surgeons recommend that men achieve their ideal weight before undergoing liposuction, which is mainly to contour the body and reduce stubborn pockets of fat, such as love handles, that won't respond to exercise.

Procedure

Liposuction is typically done under local anesthesia. A cut is made so that the stitches can be hidden in a fold of skin or under a hairline.

Recovery

Recovery from liposuction takes about three to four days, while men can resume exercising within about three to four weeks.

What Is The Best Whitening Toothpaste

With all the toothpaste brands on the market claiming to make teeth sparkling white, how can you know which is the best? Colgate and Crest offer over a dozen whiteners between them, and a myriad of other brands sell whitening toothpastes as well---Aim, Aquafresh, Bath & Body Works, Rembrandt, Tom's of Maine, and the list goes on. Consumer Reports and drugstore.com have done some of the work for you with a comparison study of toothpastes and with user reviews.

Identification

The 2006 Consumer Reports study researched 41 brands, concluding that Colgate Ultra Brite All In One Advanced Whitening toothpaste came out on top. The product was the only one which provided any significant whitening benefit, particularly notable because of its inexpensive price---28 cents an ounce, about 10 times cheaper than the most expensive brand.

Effects

None of the toothpastes tested provided any dramatic results. Essentially, they were no better at whitening than regular toothpaste, despite their claims. Even the seven containing the bleaching agent peroxide, used in professional treatments, did not whiten any better than standard toothpaste. Ultra Brite does not contain peroxide. Whitening toothpastes also do not always clarify that their promise is to remove stains, not to lighten the actual color of a person's teeth.

Considerations

Ultra Brite contains a tartar-control ingredient that sometimes causes sensitive teeth and also contains sodium lauryl sulfate, which can cause canker sores and gum irritation. The American Dental Association has not issued its seal of approval to Ultra Brite for cavity protection, although the paste does contain fluoride. Consumer Reports stated that none of the toothpastes were excessively abrasive, but some reviews express concern about that aspect of Ultra Brite and other whitening toothpastes.

Function

Almost all all users at Drugstore.com who reviewed Ultra Brite gave the product four or five stars, commenting in particular how inexpensive it is and how well it works compared to more expensive brands. One reviewer questioned why users gave such high ratings to a product they admit does not provide dramatic whitening results.

Expert Insight

The brand Consumer Reports rated highest overall was Colgate Total, with an antibacterial agent that prevents and helps heal the early-stage gum inflammation called gingivitis. Colgate Total also carries the ADA seal of approval for reducing plaque and preventing tooth decay. Considering that none of the whitening toothpastes Consumer Reports tested achieved any dramatic results over regular toothpaste, people may want to choose the all-around higher-rated brand instead.

Potential

All toothpaste is designed to scrub away plaque, the material which causes tooth decay and can eventually harden into yellowish tartar. Toothpastes which contain fluoride are the only ones which have the ADA seal of approval. Brushing with any ADA-recommended toothpaste at least twice a day, particularly after consuming stain-causing foods such as coffee, tea, or dark berries, goes a long way in keeping teeth white.

What Can Cause Hair To Thin

Thinning hair may cause you to have distress and embarrassment about your appearance, and may occur anywhere on your body, including your scalp, face, chest and legs. The causes of thinning hair include damage to the hair shaft and scalp, which may result from hormonal changes, personal habits and certain types of mental health issues. Consider this information from the Mayo Clinic about the causes of thinning hair.

Grooming

Repeated or excessive grooming of your hair, such as frequent combing or styling, may cause your hair to break and result in thinning.

Chemicals

Chemicals used to treat your hair, such as dyes, relaxers and perms may cause your hair to break if the chemicals are used too frequently or improperly.

Hair Pulling

Obsessive pulling of your hair is a type of mental disorder called trichotillomania and can affect the hair on your scalp, face and body.

Childbirth

Hormonal changes after childbirth can cause thinning of your hair as a result of changes in your hair's growth cycle.

Hormonal Treatments

Hormonal treatments that contain synthetic versions of male hormones such as testosterone can cause thinning of hair on your scalp.

Stress

Stress can affect the growth cycle of your hair and cause your hair to fall out faster than normal, resulting in thinning of the hair on your scalp and body.

Side Effects Of Parasite Cleanse

Side Effects of Parasite Cleanse

Advocates of parasite cleansing say that herbal remedies can flush out your colon and intestines, ridding you of bacteria and organisms that could cause you to become sick or sluggish. You can do a parasite cleanse at home or at a specialist's office, and advocates say they are safe, effective and healthful.

Identification

Parasite cleanses are ingested. As they work their way through your digestive tract, they are said to kill and sweep away unwanted pests, parasites and bacteria. Ingredients in these cleansing products may include black walnut hull, green walnut hull, common cloves or wormwood. You can buy these herbal remedies at a specialty store.

Significance

After ingesting a parasite-cleansing product, you probably will experience increased urges to frequent the bathroom as the ingredients work to clear out your system. You may have diarrhea or other gastrointestinal discomfort. The process can leave you feeling tired and a bit sluggish.

Considerations

After a parasite cleanse, you may experience what is known as a "healing crisis." This occurs because the cleansing product floods your system and spurs a large amount of parasites or toxins to flow through and out of your body all at once. Your body may go into a sort of mild state of shock after being exposed to this immediate rush. This can leave you feeling as though you have come down with a cold. It also can make you nauseous.

Hydration

During a parasite cleanse, you need to drink a lot of water. Advocates of cleansing say that if you don't hydrate yourself adequately, the toxins moving through your body will remain highly concentrated, leaving you feeling dizzy, tired, nauseous, and possibly even with a pounding headache. The cleansing process will further dehydrate you as it clears out your digestive tract, so you need to be especially careful to drink enough fluids so that you don't succumb to the effects of dehydration as well.

Warnings

In addition to ridding the body of parasites and bad bacteria, these cleanses also may kill much of the good bacteria in our bodies. These bacteria play a role in digestion and other bodily functions. Without them, you may be unable to digest certain foods efficiently, especially dairy products. As a result, you may experience diarrhea and other stomach ailments until the natural levels of good bacteria reaccumulate.

Brown Recluse Bite Information

Brown recluse spiders, or Loxosceles reclusa, are venomous spiders located in the southern and central-southern United States. Brown recluse bites are potentially fatal, although most cause only minor symptoms. Proper identification of the spider and prompt medical treatment minimize the risk of developing serious complications from a brown recluse bite.

Identification

Identification of brown recluse spiders is crucial to obtaining an accurate diagnosis of a brown recluse bite. Adult spiders are dark brown to yellowish tan, have soft bodies, and measure between one-quarter and one-half inches long. Brown recluse legs are thin and delicate, are usually dark brown in color, and are covered with dark hairs. Adult spiders, including leg span, are approximately the size of a half-dollar. Brown recluse spiders have two distinguishing features: three pairs of eyes on the forepart of the head and a dark violin-shaped mark extending from the eyes to the abdomen. They may be found in small, irregularly shaped webs, or roaming.

Common Bite Reactions

Some people experience no effects from a brown recluse bite. In others, symptoms may not develop for several hours. Most bite reactions include the development of a small blister at the bite location that is surrounded by a large swollen area. Within 24 to 36 hours, fever, chills, restlessness, nausea, joint pain and weakness occur. The bite area enlarges, inflammation increases, and the tissue becomes hard and hot. This may be the extent of the bite reaction for some people, and symptoms will gradually disappear over the course of days or weeks. According to the University of California, Riverside, 90 percent of brown recluse bites are medically insignificant.

Severe Bite Reactions

In severe bite reactions, a hole in the flesh develops at the bite location. This open wound may range in size from one-quarter of an inch to several inches. The ulcerated wound may take up to two months to heal, and scarring may be significant. In some cases, brown recluse spider bites may cause significant injury, tissue loss and necrosis. Rarely, bites may lead to hemolysis, renal failure, coagulopathy or death. The severity of the reaction depends on several factors, including the amount of injected venom, the person's sensitivity to brown recluse venom, and the overall health of the victim.

Treatment

Following a bite, the offending spider should be captured for positive identification. Brown recluse bites are a medical emergency, and victims must obtain medical assistance even in the absence of symptoms. Prompt application of antiseptic solution can help prevent infection, and ice packs may help alleviate swelling and pain. Antihistamine medications are useful at relieving itching. High doses of cortisone hormones are used to combat complications such as hemolysis. If infection occurs, high-dose antibiotics, either oral or intravenous, may be prescribed. When tissue damage is extensive, treatment involves surgery to remove the necrotic tissue. There is no effective antivenom for brown recluse bites.

Prevention

Prevention of brown recluse bites involves avoiding contact with the spiders as much as possible. Brown recluse spiders are most active at night when they come out to hunt for food. During the day, the spiders tend to hide in dark, quiet places, such as bathrooms, closets, cellars, storage sheds, garages, wood piles and basements. They may hide under furniture, in stored clothing, inside shoes and behind baseboards. Most brown recluse bites occur when spiders are disturbed by cleaning of these locations. Inspecting bedding, towels, and clothing before use and wearing thick gloves when handling firewood or moving storage boxes will reduce your risk of a brown recluse bite.

Complain The Quality Of Care To My Hmo

Contacting your HMO about your care is simple.

If you have received poor care or treatment by a doctor or other health care worker and belong to a health maintenance organization, you can write or call your HMO to complain about the service you received. Most HMOs want to hear about issues and problems their members have so that they can improve their services or discuss recurring issues with the staff member involved.

Instructions

1. Locate your HMO's membership card. This will list the name and mailing address of your HMO and probably a general phone number. If you wish to send your HMO an email, look up the HMO's name on the Internet. All HMOs maintain websites with complete contact information.

2. Draft your letter to the HMO. Include all of the information you have about the incident about which you want to complain, including the date, name of the doctor or office, exactly what happened and any complaints you made to the doctor or office itself. If you need to address ongoing issues, make a note of the dates on which the poor care occurred. If you are going to call your HMO, writing everything down and having it at hand during the call will assist you in making the call.

3. Decide what kind of response you want, such as being switched to a different doctor or office, being refunded money or having an employee of the HMO disciplined.

4. Write your letter or email in standard business format, addressing it to the correct person and including your full name and contact information. If there is someone else the HMO should speak to in your place, such as a caretaker or home aide, include that information. If you call, make sure you provide the person you speak to with your full name and contact information.

Natural Treatments For Hormones & Acne

Hormones can play a big part in causing acne. This is especially true in the teen years but can affect adults as well. Certain treatments can address the hormonal component of acne.

Hormones and Acne

Acne results from increased production of the male hormone testosterone, which stimulates excess oil production. It also prompts the production of keratin, a protein that can contribute to clogged pores.

Treating Hormonal Issues

Do not take supplements that address hormonal issues without consulting your doctor or a health care professional experienced in using natural supplements. They can suggest appropriate dosages.

Beneficial Natural Supplements

Certain natural supplements might be beneficial for addressing the hormonal component of acne. Milk thistle helps remove excess hormones through the stool. Saw palmetto, which is only appropriate for men, can reduce production of excess testosterone. Vitex, which is only appropriate for women, blocks the production of a chemical that turns into testosterone.

Supplements to Avoid

Certain supplements can increase testosterone production in the body; they include avena, chrysin, muira pama, pine pollen, Siberian ginseng, stinging nettle and tribulus terrestris.

Dietary Complements

Your diet can also influence acne. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink eight glasses of water daily. Reduce inflammation by cutting back on sugar and white flour and eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Steps To Cpr For Adults

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, is a method of restoring a person's breathing if his or her heartbeat has stopped. The two components of CPR include chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth breathing. The American Heart Association developed a CPR program for doctors in 1960, and in 2010, the organization released new CPR guidelines, putting a priority on compressions rather than clearing the airway first. If CPR is immediately administered to a person in cardiac arrest, his chances of survival increase dramatically. So by learning CPR, you could save a life.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Check the scene for safety. For example, take care to redirect traffic from the area.

2. Call 911 or assign someone else to do so. If a crowd gathers, put some to work helping you and ask the others to back away to give the victim as much privacy as possible.

3. Kneel next to the victim and gently shake or tap him and call out to him. If he doesn't respond, carefully roll him onto his back.

Performance

4. Start chest compressions by placing the heel of your hand on the center of the victim's chest and your other hand on top with fingers intertwined.

5. Press down at least 2 inches at a rate of at least 100 times per minute to send blood to vital organs.

6. If you are CPR-certified, you can proceed to open the airway by the head-tilt/chin-lift method. Push back on the forehead and lift the chin by putting your fingers on the bony part of the chin.

7. Pinch the victim's nose to close it. Take in a normal breath, tightly cover the victim's mouth with yours and give two, one-second breaths. Look to see if the chest rises.

8. Continue at a rate of 30 compressions to two breaths until help arrives or the victim starts to move.

Use Stevia Leaf

Stevia leaf is used to sweeten drinks, baked goods and can be used in almost any way that ordinary table sugar is used. Stevia leaf (Stevia rebaudiana) is a member of the Asteraceae family. It contains steviosides and diterpene glycosides that researchers believe give the plant its sweet taste. Stevia packs a powerful punch: a much smaller amount can be used as it is much sweeter than white refined sugar cane. Allergies are rare but are possible. Use sparingly to see if you are able to tolerate it without irritation.

Instructions

1. Purchase stevia leaf online or in health food stores. It is found in many prepared foods such as hot cocoa, pancake and cookie mixes. It can also be found in specialty teas in natural foods markets.

2. Use the stevia leaf tablets in drinks hot and cold. A simple hot cocoa can be made from combining soy or rice milk with stevia leaf tablets and cocoa powder heated slowly to blend. Add stevia leaf powder to strong or bitter Chinese herbal drinks that are normally boiled for 30 minutes and then left to sit and steep. Just before drinking, add stevia leaf powder to the cooled mixture.

3. Sprinkle stevia leaf powder over cold and hot cereals such as (previously unsweetened) corn flakes, wheat bran or cooked oatmeal.

4. Fold stevia leaf powder in any recipe that normally calls for refined white sugar. In cookie recipes, use half or even a third of the amount of the white sugar. For example, if ¾ cup of sugar is ordinarily used, use only ¼ or even less of stevia. This requires trial and error. It is a matter of subjective taste buds.

5. Sweeten any fresh cut fruit with stevia leaf powder. Rather than an artificial sweetener or sugar, sprinkle stevia leaf powder over cut grapefruit, pears or even tart apples.

Use Stem Cell Therapy To Treat Autism

Use Stem Cell Therapy to Treat Autism

Researchers in the United States are studying stem cell therapy for clues to the origins of autism and treat it. Cord stem cells are being used to treat autism in other countries, such as Mexico and China, through a series of injections. As studies continue, scientists are hopeful that stem cells may one day be used to repair areas of the brain commonly damaged in autism. Read on to learn more about use stem cell therapy to treat autism.

Instructions

Learn How Stem Cell Therapy Can be Used to Treat Autism

1. Target areas of the brain commonly affected in people with autism. Current research shows that areas of the brain that govern memory formation, neurotransmission and the release of the hormone oxytocin are damaged in people who have autism. Some scientists believe that this damage is caused by environmental factors such as pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, metals and other toxins.

2. Inject stem cells to improve blood flow in the brain, replace damaged neurons and promote the growth of new blood vessels. Stem cells travel to parts of the body that have been damaged and become lodged in areas where blood flow has been constricted. Over time, they take on the characteristics of the cells around them and are able to multiply. In the case of autism, both gray matter and white matter in the brain would be regenerated.

3. Use stem cell therapy along with detoxification processes that would remove toxic metals such as mercury and excess fungi.

Monitor Current Uses and Studies of Stem Cell Therapy

4. Monitor the progress of similar trials being conducted to treat patients with multiple sclerosis. Though different in many ways, multiple sclerosis and autism are similar in that significant areas of white matter in the brain have been damaged.

5. Track the success of current patients being treated with stem cell therapy in other countries.

6. Use research gathered in current domestic studies to help trace the origins of autism, so that treatment can be improved. Stem cell research may help save time in developing new medication by improving researchers' understanding of this complex disorder.

Get Pregnant After An Iud

An IUD, or intrauterine device, is a small contraceptive device made of flexible plastic. IUDs offer years of worry-free birth control. The IUD works by preventing fertilization or by altering the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation should fertilization occur. An IUD has several advantages over traditional birth control. It provides fewer and more consistent hormones and won't cause significant weight gain. An IUD is easy to use for several years, or can be removed early if you want to get pregnant earlier. It is simple to get pregnant after using an IUD.

Instructions

1. Schedule your appointment to have the IUD removed. There is no minimum time an IUD must be used for. An IUD can be removed at any time. The removal is actually quicker and less painful than the insertion.

2. Prepare your body for pregnancy. Since you are planning a pregnancy, start doing things that would be beneficial for the baby. Start taking prenatal vitamins or folic acid, exercise and quit smoking.

3. Buy a calender or subscribe to an online service that tracks your ovulation. When you have your first menstrual cycle, mark this down. It is important to point out that since IUDs works by preventing fertilization, you can become pregnant in the very first month after having it removed or even from intercourse had before the IUD was removed.

4. Predict your ovulation. If menstruation consistently starts every 28 days, you can reasonably assume that ovulation occurs 14 days after the first day of menstruation. If menstrual cycles are consistently longer than 28 days long, simply subtract 18 from the average days in your cycles.

5. Try for the baby during your window of ovulation. This is when you will be most successful with fertilization.

6. Know when to seek help. If you and your partner are younger than 35, wait a year before seeing a doctor for help getting pregnant. If you are 35 or older, your menstrual cycle is longer 35 days, or if you or your partner have or think you have fertility problems. see your doctor.

Hot Stone Massage History

Hot stone massage is a special massage therapy to alleviate ailments like back pain and stress. Using direct heat, the stones help to loosen muscles and relieve tension. Sometimes the stones are used to massage the body and also held in the hands of the person receiving the massage. Hot stone massage is similar in technique and philosophy to traditional massage.

History

Massage dates back thousands of years and is the technique of manipulating soft tissue and muscle through pressure. There are references to as far back as biblical times (c. 400 BC) of using hot stones to massage the body with olive oil.

India

Hot stone massage may have originated as far back as 5000 years ago in India and the ancient healing tradition of Ayurveda, which balances three substances---wind, spirit and air. It is thought that smooth stones were taken from river beds and then warmed or cooled to use in healing and massage.

Asia

In Asian cultures, hot stone massage has been used for close to 4,000 years. Hot stone massage was considered to help with digestion and improve the function of the internal organs. The hot stones were placed directly on the stomach to ease pain. Hot stones were also used to help promote better energy flow and with Anma, the oldest form of Asian massage.

Native Americans

Native Americans used hot stones during rituals and in sweat lodges hundreds of years ago and are still use them today. Hot stones were used to massage the body and hold heat. The hot stones would help to restore balance to an individual and detoxify the body. During ceremonies, hot stones would be heated using the four elements---water, fire, air, and earth---and then passed around to rub against areas of the body with ailments.

Hawaiian and Indigenous Influence

Medicine men, or Kahunas, in Hawaii have used hot stones for massage and healing for many years. With traditional Lomi Lomi Hawaiian massage, heated lava stones are placed directly on the body to increase blood circulation. Lava rock balls are also used to scrape and polish the skin. South American healing traditions of past also include using hot stones to alleviate menstrual pain and assist with massage after giving birth.

Modern Times

In the early 1990s, an American massage therapist name Mary Nelson combined the use of hot stones with her massage therapy and treatment. She created a technique of using 54 hot stones, 18 frozen stones, and 1 stone at room temperature and named it the LaStone Therapy. Incorporating the chakras, or force centers, Nelson created a unique massage experience and is considered responsible for bringing the idea of hot stone massage to the United State and popular culture.

Clean White Film From Orthodontic Appliances

Living with orthodontic appliances (braces, retainers, and so forth) requires you to set aside some extra time for proper maintenance. Orthodontic appliances need to be properly cared for and thoroughly cleaned to avoid food and plaque buildup and residue, which cause bad breath and leave an unsightly white film. Caring for and properly cleaning orthodontic appliances to keep them in good shape and residue free is an important part of a professional teeth-straightening treatment.

Instructions

Braces

1. Begin with mouthwash. Rinse and spit a few times to dislodge food particles from between teeth and gums.

2. Use dental pick to remove any food particles stuck to the brackets and wires. Rinse and spit.

3. Brush teeth thoroughly. Make sure attention is paid to each individual tooth.

4. Check teeth and make sure all food particles have been removed.

5. Floss properly to get rid of anything that might be hiding.

Retainers

6. Soak retainer in a container with a denture tablet for 15 to 20 minutes.

7. After it stops fizzing, remove the retainer and rinse it off.

8. If any white residue remains, use an old toothbrush soaked in vinegar to remove the buildup.

Cvs Drug Plan Prescription Guide

The CVS Drug Prescription plan generally covers both in-store prescriptions as well as mail-in prescriptions through CVS Caremark. Employers or individuals who choose this plan, may have the option of using either depending on the health insurance allowance.

Filling a Prescription

CVS and Caremark offer more than 62,000 pharmacies in which prescriptions can be filled. The most important component is to have a benefit ID card on hand when filling a prescription. Co-pays vary depending on the health insurance plan, and will be collected by the pharmacist upon order. However, if the Benefit ID is not available, then most prescriptions and receipts will need to be sent in for reimbursement. In addition, various health care plans have selective drugs including name brand vs. generic specifics that they do and do not cover. If the pharmacist says the drug is not covered, there is a toll-free number on the benefit ID card that patients can call for such inquiries.

Mail-in Orders via Caremark

The Caremark program includes a mail service, which can be a convenient option for patients. Most insurance plans allow doctors to write 90-day fill prescriptions to be sent directly to a location of choice. Registration is a one-time mail in order form. Thereafter, patients can speak to registered pharmacists via phone or online and also track refills and prescriptions online. Shipping is also free.

Most prescriptions arrive within 10 to 14 calendar dies after orders are placed. If second day or overnight shipping is necessary, then patients will have to pay for the difference.

Time and Money Saving Tips

One of the key ways to save on medications is by switching to a generic brand vs. brand name, if it is available. The cost difference can vary anywhere from 30 to 80 percent. Most plans will offer a preferred and covered drugs list and have it available on their website or upon request. Having the list handy and bringing the list to the doctor's office can save both time and money, allowing doctor's to prescribe accordingly.

Polycystic Ovarian Disease Cures

Polycystic ovarian disease is a condition in which cysts grow on the ovaries. This condition affects approximately 10 percent of women, and symptoms can range from mild to severe. Fortunately, there are ways to treat this gynecological disorder. In most cases, women make a full recovery, and the condition doesn't impact their ability to reproduce.

Instructions

1. Get a birth control prescription. Because polycystic ovarian disease results from abnormal hormone levels, taking a birth control pill can help regulate hormones and treat the disease. Additionally, the pill can alleviate other symptoms associated with this condition such as acne, unusual hair growth and irregular menstrual cycle.

2. Take medication to treat diabetes. Even if you don't have diabetes, medications prescribed to diabetic patients are effective treatments for polycystic ovarian disease. These medications include ingredients that help regulate hormone levels.

3. Talk to your doctor about medications to treat excessive hair growth. Although polycystic ovarian disease causes a lot of unpleasant symptoms such as weight gain, pelvic pain and skin tags, abnormal hair growth is an unsightly symptom. Hormone medications are often effective treatments. But in some instances, women with this condition may need to experiment with laser hair removal.

4. Experiment with fertility medication. Because polycystic ovarian disease stops ovulation, some women have trouble conceiving. Fertility medications and injections can trigger ovulation. However, the risk of giving birth to multiples is higher with fertility treatments.

5. Maintain a healthy weight. Weight gain is a common symptom of polycystic ovarian disease. However, eating a healthy diet and a daily workout routine can help regulate menstrual cycles and alleviate symptoms.

Chemicals Used In Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is used in patients to stop the growth and spread of cancer at all of its stages of development. What is little known is exactly what drugs are used in chemotherapy and why. Learning about the categories of drugs and their purpose can help patients make an informed decision about cancer treatment options.

Types

There are more than 300 drugs that are used in chemotherapy, but they all generally fall into one of four categories, depending on their intended purpose: antimetabolites, alkylating agents, topoisomerase inhibitors and anthracyclines. The combination of these drugs attacks the ability of cancer cells to survive, reproduce and propagate or metastasize. During chemotherapy, some cancers may be resistant to one or more drugs, meaning the regimen may be changed, leading to a profusion of chemicals.

Antimetabolites

Cancer cells are still living and as such need to metabolize food to continue to live and grow. Antimetabolites interfere with a cancer cell's ability to metabolize food into energy. Chemicals such as 6-mercaptopurine and 5-Azacitidine are drugs that are administered subcutaneously (under the skin) or intravenously (directly into the veins), though some may be administered orally.

Alkylating agents

Alkylating agents damage the cancer cell's deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, preventing them from reproducing and spreading. This prevents tumor growth as well, though not all cancers manifest as tumors. Cyclophosphamide, abraxane and mechlorethamine hydrochloride are examples of alkylating agents used in chemotherapy. These are usually given intravenously.

Topoisomerase inhibitors

Topoisomerase inhibitors break down the DNA structure of the cancer cell and inhibit a single helix strand from bonding to another, thus preventing reproduction. In this manner, it acts similar to alkylating agents but attacks the DNA much earlier in the life cycle of the cancer cell--during actual reproduction--whereas alkylating agents attack cells after reproduction. Some common topoisomerase inhibitors are CPT-11, Camptothecan and Taxol. Most of these drugs are administered intravenously.

Anthracyclines

Anthracyclines cause "free radical" radiation damage to cells by stripping away some of the protection that cancer cells have, damaging the ribose of the DNA, disrupting the reproduction of the cell. Common anthracyclines include Mitoxantrone, Doxorubicin and Daunorubicin. These drugs are also administered intravenously, mostly because outside of the bloodstream, they may cause tissue damage and blistering.

Others

There are also other drugs that may be involved in chemotheraphy, including hormone inhibitors, cortosteroids and drugs to control the side effects of some chemotherapy drugs. This adds to the amount of chemicals introduced into the body during chemotherapy, which may add to some of the confusion over the purpose and effects of these medications. Close consultation with an oncologist as well as cancer support and information groups is highly recommended for potential and current chemotherapy patients.

Make Hand Sanitizer Gel

Make Hand Sanitizer Gel

Hand sanitizer gels help to protect us from getting illnesses such as colds and flu. An antibacterial hand sanitizer will protect you from both virus and bacteria. It is an important weapon to carry to defend you and your family from becoming sick. Arm yourself and your family with a bottle of hand sanitizer to be used frequently throughout the day. This is especially important for children in school and those who come in contact with people and their germs. Hand sanitizing gels are very effective in killing those germs. They are not as effective on hands that have dirt or food on them. Hands need to be reasonably clean when using a waterless hand sanitizer.

Instructions

1. In a small bowl add 1 tablespoon of isopropyl alcohol, 1 tablespoon of glycerin, 1 cup of Aloe Vera gel and 12 drops of tea tree oil. Isopropyl alcohol and glycerin can be purchased at a pharmacy. Aloe Vera gel and tea tree oil can be purchased at health food stores, natural pharmacies and online.

2. Mix all of the ingredients thoroughly.

3. Pour the hand sanitizer gel into small individual capped plastic bottles for easy carrying. Be sure to clearly label the bottle with all of the ingredients.

Bunion Develop

How Does a Bunion Develop?

What is a Bunion

When too much pressure is applied to the joint and tendon that connects the big toe to the foot, the joint (metarsophalangeal joint), in some individuals, becomes distorted and deformed. This doesn't happen overnight, however. It takes years of pressure to the joint for a bunion to develop.

Bunions and Genetics

Some people are genetically predisposed to developing bunions because their soft tissue muscles, tendons and ligaments are lax. As a result, the big toe begins to shift in the direction of the little toe thus causing the base of the big toe joint, to bulge and show the tell-tale bunion bump.

Lifestyle and Bunions

Lifestyle plays a large part in contributing to the formation of a bunion. Dancers who spend much of their day wearing high heal shoes performing dances steps apply additional pressure on the toe joint thus contributing to bunion development.

Women are more prone to develop a bunion then men as women tend to were high heeled shoes which cause the body's weight to apply pressure to the joint. Additionally, pointy-toed shoes tend to force the big toe to lean in the direction of the smaller toes, creating the perfect environment day after day for bunion formation.

Symptoms of a Bunion

Aside from the obvious visual bump at the base of the big toe joint, bunions can cause pain, selling and redness in the area. The results of having a bunion can range from a mild embarrassment and discomfort to pain and difficulty in walking. Sometimes the formation of a bunion causes the big toe to rest and rub on the adjacent toe, giving rise to a protective corn on the adjacent toe. The bunion and corn cause pain and discomfort.

Bunion Treatment

Many women are forced to change their style in shoes. Once a bunion becomes too large or painful to fit in high-heeled shoes, bunion suffers trade in high-heeled shoes for comfortable low healed shoes that accommodate the bunion.

If the change in shoe style is not sufficient to remedy the problem, bunion suffers have the option of visiting a Podiatrist. A Podiatrist can prescribe orthotics in an attempt to correct the deformity or inject steroids to reduce the swelling and inflammation surrounding the joint.

A final, and more invasive method of treating a bunion is through surgery. Doctors surgically realign the joint and remove or realign the soft tissue surrounding the joint to help relieve the pain and return the toe to its proper place.

Thyroid Problems Signs & Symptoms

The thyroid gland produces thyroid hormone, which regulates many of the body's functions. If there is too little of the thyroid hormone (hypothyroid), too much (hyperthyroid) or other problems with the gland (such as Hashimoto's disease, thyroid cancer) it can cause many different symptoms. In women, it can also affect hormonal cycles and pregnancy.

Digestive System

Thyroid problems can cause changes in the digestive system. Hypothyroidism usually causes constipation, while hyperthyroidism can bring on diarrhea.

Energy Level

If the thyroid gland is not functioning properly, one of the first symptoms is a slow or sluggish feeling. This symptom is common with many thyroid conditions, though those with hyperthyroid tend to feel a racing heart and nervousness rather than rundown.

Weight Fluctuation

One sign of a problem with the thyroid is a change in weight. A person with a thyroid condition can gain or lose weight rather quickly, depending on the type of thyroid disease.

Change in Gland

A bulging thyroid gland or nodules in the neck could be a sign of a thyroid problem. This could be a tumor or swelling.

Considerations

Left untreated, thyroid conditions can lead to serious problems with muscles and even cognitive thinking and depression. Most thyroid conditions can be diagnosed with a simple blood test.

Crohn'S Abdominal Pain

Abdominal pain stemming from Crohn's disease can be debilitating. Crohn's disease consists of chronic inflammation affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Because there is no cure for the disease, it is treated with medications. However, if these fail, there is also a surgical option.

Features

Crohn's disease has many symptoms, including diarrhea, joint pain, weight loss, and skin rashes. According to the National Digestive Diseases Clearinghouse (NDDIC), one common symptom among patients with Crohn's disease is the element of persistent abdominal pain.

Treatment

The goal of treatment is to keep inflammation in the digestive tract under control while keeping the abdominal pain at bay. Treatment options include anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, immunosuppressives, antibiotics, Infliximab, and anti-diarrhea medication.

Significance

Crohn's disease affects almost 600,000 people in the United States, reports the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Considerations

Roughly two-thirds of people with Crohn's disease will need a surgical procedure to remove the diseased portion of the digestive tract. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this option helps with symptoms, namely abdominal pain.

Warning

The disease tends to cycle through flare-ups and remissions. As the disease progresses, the flare-up periods may produce worsening abdominal pain; therefore, it's helpful to keep a diary of symptoms to share with your physician.

Infusion Treatments For Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis affects many people. It can cause amazing discomfort and pain when performing the easiest activities. It can leave you bedridden for days or weeks at a time if not treated correctly. Until 2006, treatments available where few; many consisted of taking higher doses of Advil and Motrin. With the introduction of infusion therapy, this disease could soon become a concern of the past.

What Infusion Treatment Is

Infusion treatment is an effective way to treat rheumatoid arthritis. The cells that cause joints and tissues to swell are called "B cells." These cells are important inflammatory cells with many functions, but, when depleted in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, it dramatically reduces the symptoms caused by the painful joint-swelling condition. The most popular infusion treatment agent is called Rituximab, but methylprednisolone is now being used as well. It effectively and safely depletes the body of B cells, thus preventing the body's initial reaction to swell in joints where B cells would normally be released.

Dosage

Current dosage prescribed by the FDA is 1,000mg given through an IV. This will last anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, and it will be done twice with a 2-week break between sessions. There is an ongoing study dedicated to the dosing of Rituximab, but currently the 2 doses with a 2-week break has proven most effective. These treatments will be done, on average, every 5 to 6 months.

Duration

On average, infusion treatments can last anywhere from 4 to 6 months with the patients being pain free. This means for those months, the patients will not suffer through the pain of everyday activities like opening a door or standing up. Once the effects of the treatment wear off, another 2-dose treatment will be necessary.

Side Effects

For the most part, side effects of infusion treatments are mild. Sometimes, patients have been known to break out in hives, itch, swell and even have difficulty breathing. It is always a good idea to find out from your physician if you are at risk for any of these. Many times, these effects are caused by the first dosage because your body is not used to the B cell depletion yet. The patient's second and third dosages usually alleviate the pain without these adverse effects.

History

In 1986, Rituximab was initially developed to treat non-Hodgkin's lymphoma as it helped with the managing of malignant lymphocytes. Since its inception, it has moved on to treat other conditions like leukemia, multiple sclerosis and, as discussed here, rheumatoid arthritis. Most recently it has been used in helping transplant patients' bodies accept the new organ more willingly.

Magnetic Hematite Vs Hematite Mineralogy Geology

Polished mineral hematite and magnetic hematite are visually very similar.

It is easy to confuse the mineral hematite with the man-made material that goes by the name "magnetic hematite." In certain forms, both share a very similar silvery appearance. In addition, both are often confused with the mineral magnetite. Hematite and magnetite are both iron oxide minerals, but magnetic hematite, though containing iron, is a manufactured ceramic material that is marketed and sold for its silvery appearance and magnetic properties.

The Mineral Hematite

Hematite-rich soils are reddish in color.

Hematite is a reddish iron oxide. It can be variable in appearance, and colors range from deep red to reddish-brown and even grayish-silver. However, it leaves a reddish streak when abraded or powdered. It is usually found in sedimentary deposits, but it can also occur as a metamorphic rock. Reddish soil is due to a high hematite content. On the Moh's scale of hardness, hematite is around 5.5, which means you can scratch it with a steel nail.

Magnetic Hematite

Magnetic hematite is not a true hematite in terms of its mineral content. Actually a man-made magnetic material, the content of magnetic hematite varies between manufacturers. The Mineralogy Database found that one sample was a "synthetic ceramic barium-strontium ferrite magnet." Companies that produce magnetic hematite keep their formulas a trade secret, but they all share a silvery appearance and have magnetic properties.

"Magnetizing" Hematite

People might assume that magnetic hematite is simply "magnetized" hematite. True hematite, though iron-containing, actually has a weak magnetic field because of the way its iron atoms are aligned. On the other hand, the mineral magnetite is highly magnetic, and many often erroneously assume it is magnetic hematite (the artificial material). Like true hematite, magnetite is also an iron oxide, but its iron atoms are arranged in a manner that make it magnetic.

Uses of Mineral Hematite

Polished hematite is a deep silver and popular for inexpensive jewelry.

Hematite is the primary ore of iron, and thus massive amounts of hematite are mined for their iron content. People have used it throughout the world and throughout history as a source of red pigment or paint in its powdered form. Some forms of polished and rock-tumbled hematite have a silvery appearance; this form of hematite has been a popular material for jewelry, effigies and other decorative objects.

Uses of Magnetic Hematite

Magnetic hematite is mainly produced for novelty jewelry and magnets. Controversial health products using magnetic fields are also marketed and sold as magnetic hematite. These items consists of necklaces, bracelets, belts and anklets. Claims are made that the magnetic fields created by these products can relieve arthritic pain and aching joints. Magnetic healing products made of magnetite also sell as magnetic hematite.

Prevent Headaches Naturally

Headaches are often as a result of stress, illness, a deficiency of what your body needs, or some other underlying reason. With all of the talk of the impact that over-the-counter pain medications have on the organs, such as the liver, pancreas and stomach, many people suffer the pain of a headache versus taking these medications. There are several natural things you can do to relieve yourself of a headache.

Instructions

1. Purchase magnesium supplements. Many times, the magnesium levels in your brain drops and can bring on headaches. Most supplements come in 250mg caplets. One a day seems to help in keeping the levels consistent and may be useful in preventing headaches. Make sure that you consult a physician before taking these to make sure that any medications you may be taking do not conflict with the suppplement.

2. Make an herb sachet pack that can be placed over the forehead at bed time. Lavender should be one of the primary ingredients in the pack, as the scent is relaxing and helps the constricted vessels to receive less pressure.

3. Suck on a lime that is cut in half. Many believe that the juice of a lime triggers a receptor to thwart headaches. Additionally, eat healthy. Some foods can cause people to have headaches as well. Additionally, eating regularly or at small intervals can help in preventing headaches too.

4. Get plenty of rest. Sleep deprivation can cause headaches, as the brain needs rejuvenation daily. Going for long periods of time without an adequate amount of sleep can cause headaches.

5. Exercise regularly. Although many do not like to exercise, a simple 15 to 20 minute walk can generate endorphines that give the brain and body energy.

6. Try acupuncture as a naturopathic remedy. Acupuncture uses needles to trigger points of blocked energy in the body. Many believe that the needles, when inserted into the skin, free up energy to be released and in turn can prevent or cure headaches in addition to a variety of other illnesses.

Uti & Yeast Infection Symptoms

What's that odd itching, along with the need to urinate? It could be a urinary tract infection. If these symptoms show up along with an odd odor, a yeast infection may be the culprit. While men and women suffer from UTIs, yeast infections are commonly found in women. Read on to get a small dose of symptoms connected with both yeast infections and UTIs.

Bad or Foul Odor

Every woman has a vaginal odor, but there may be something wrong if a usually neutral smell is suddenly strong or sour. Secretions may seem to have a sharp or tangy fragrance, as if your body isn't balanced. In fact, things might smell like beer--another yeast product.

Itching and Irritation

The vaginal area may become irritated, with an annoying, persistent itching sensation. If there's discharge, the additional moisture could be adding to the problem.

Odd Discharge

A healthy vagina secretes fluid throughout the day that looks clear or pearly. When things are out of whack, this liquid may become chunky or filled with mucus, rendering it cloudy. Bad cases will even appear slightly discolored.

Pain During Intercourse

Because the vaginal passage is irritated during a yeast infection, sex may seem very uncomfortable. It should be avoided, because the infection can spread to your partner or can worsen.

More UTI Symptoms

Those suffering from a UTI can also feel a frequent need to urinate, as well as nausea. According to MedicineNet, "Often women feel an uncomfortable pressure above the pubic bone, and some men experience a fullness in the rectum."

Use Nutritional Counseling To Treat Bulimia

Use Nutritional Counseling to Treat Bulimia

Locating a registered dietitian or nutritional counselor who has been trained in eating disorders may be an effective option to treat bulimia, also known as "binging and purging." Nutritional counseling involves both intervention and education about eating disorders and a counseling program in conjunction with proper medical and psychological supervision. This makes it an extremely practical solution.

Instructions

Use Nutritional Counseling to Treat Bulimia

1. Submit to both a physical exam from a doctor and a psychological evaluation from a psychiatric team before you treat bulimia with nutritional counseling. Since eating disorders have a psychological basis, not addressing these issues with a qualified team will significantly undermine the efforts of the nutritional counselor.

2. Have your health care team assist in referring you to the proper dietitian or nutritional counselor who has been properly trained in eating disorders. It is important to find a counselor who is not only knowledgeable about the causes and motivations of bulimia, but also understands and respects the boundaries of the rest of your health care team.

3. Find a nutritional counselor who understands cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and uses these concepts to educate and inform patients about eating disorders. CBT is one of the most effective ways to treat bulimia, since it seeks to isolate the unacceptable behaviors from the thoughts and emotions causing those behaviors. By using behavior modification techniques, nutritional counseling can redefine attitudes and beliefs toward eating.

4. Adhere to a strict eating schedule when you use nutritional counseling to treat bulimia. Bulimia nervosa is often characterized by chaotic eating patterns, which may cause the induced vomiting behaviors to occur. By restricting yourself to three meals a day, plus one snack, you decrease the chances of lapsing into undesirable eating behaviors.

5. Educate yourself about fluid retention while changing your eating patterns. People with bulimia can easily become dehydrated due to the vomiting behaviors, which can lead to many severe and potentially life-threatening conditions. Knowing the importance of drinking fluids every day is a big step in understanding the disorder.

6. Wean yourself away from laxatives if you use them as part of your binging behaviors. A high-fiber diet may help your digestive system to make a more gradual transition into normal eating patterns.

Identify The Snakes Of West Tennessee

Of the four venomous snakes in the state of Tennessee, all inhabit the western counties.

Western Tennessee is home to many species of snakes. The state itself contains over 30 of them. Only four recognized species of snake in the western portion are poisonous, or perhaps more correctly, venomous. They are all members of the family known as pit vipers. This in some ways eases the task of differentiating between them and their less hostile---or at least less harmful---extended relatives. Awareness of these differences is the key to keeping safe.

Instructions

Identify Venomous Species

1. Pay extreme attention to the shape of the snake's eyes! The shape of the eye of a venomous snake in western Tennessee will be elliptical and not round. They will have a vertical pupil as well. Think of this eye appearance as similar to a cat's.

2. The timber rattlesnake inhabits U.S. states as diverse as Connecticut and Tennessee.

Stop and listen. There are two rattlesnakes on our list. If you hear anything even resembling a rattle be on high alert. The pygmy variety may be far more muted and sound more akin to an insect buzz, so be extra careful. The cottonmouth, on the other hand, might offer what has been described as a "sharp hissing display."

3. Look at the head shape. All of the animals we are discussing are pit vipers, so their heads will always appear triangular. There will also be an appearance the heads are separate from the main portion of their body. Some other nonpoisonous species may be able to flatten their heads to look triangular. This may or may not be accompanied by an appearance of head-body separation. In the end, if the head looks at all triangular, get out of there!

4. Take note of where you are when you are out in nature. The pygmy can be found in flood plains, "wet prairies" and other wet environments. This is similar to the cottonmouth, which may be in the waterway itself and can bite underwater. Both the timber rattlesnake and the copperhead reside more in forests, under leaf piles, in abandoned piles of debris and in other places with lots of rock, timber and coverage. Any place in the woods where there are lots of rodents for snakes to feed on is not a place you want to be.

5. Study the colors of the different species and if they vary given the age of the snake. Copperheads appear with chestnut bands on their backs or "saddles." The western cottonmouth is muted and dark, almost to the point where it could be considered black. When young, however, they can be a lot more colorful. The timber rattlesnake has blackish or brownish bands set over a common mixture of beige, gray or peachlike complexion.

The skin is the body's largest organ. It is easy to damage the skin. Even though the skin repairs itself when damage has been done the affected skin doesn't look and feel exactly the same as it did before it was damaged. This is what we commonly refer to as a scar. Scars can result from several different types of damage to the skin such as burns, cuts and even surgical incisions. Scars can have different appearances depending on the type of wound and the manner of healing. Although scars may never go away entirely there are ways to lessen the appearance of a scar making it less noticeable.

Instructions

1. Use aloe vera gel on a wound that is going through the healing process in order to prevent permanent scarring. Rub a bit of the gel on the affected area three to four times daily.

2. Use honey to heal and minimize the appearance of scars. Honey has been used down through the ages for its healing properties. Rub a little honey onto the affected area. Since honey is sticky you will want to cover the affected area with a gauze bandage. Leave the honey on for fifteen to thirty minutes and then wash it off. You can also help heal your skin from the inside out by eating a teaspoon of honey each day.

3. Use lemon juice to minimize the appearance of old scars. While old scars may not disappear completely their appearance can be greatly reduced. Apply lemon juice to an old scar two to three times a day to lighten the scar and make it less visible. You can also use coconut oil for the same effect. Do not use lemon juice on fresh wounds as it may cause burning and irritation. Use lemon juice only on old scars.

4. Apply cocoa butter to lessen the appearance of scars. Cocoa butter has been used for years to treat scars and stretch marks. Although cocoa butter may not totally remove scars it can certainly minimize the appearance of scars. Apply cocoa butter to the affected area of skin three to four times a day to fade the appearance of scars.

5. Use olive oil or Vitamin E oil to minimize the appearance of scars. Both olive oil and Vitamin E oil have been praised for their wonderful effects on the skin. Rub a little of either of these oils on the affected area of skin three to four times daily. The Vitamin E or olive oil will also help keep the skin moist and supple as well as reduce the appearance of the scar.
