Aventurine is a semi-precious gemstone that gets its name from the Italian "a ventura," which means "by chance." Although commonly known for its green color, aventurine can also be found in yellow, orange, brown, gray and blue. This very common and mostly inexpensive gemstone has a wealth of uses, from healing to magic.
Characteristics
Aventurine is most commonly found in India, but is also located in Brazil, Russia, Tanzania, China, Japan and the United States. Formed from microcrystalline quartz, aventurine also contains particles of mica that give it a bit of sparkle. Aventurine can be easily carved, and has been used in mosaics and statuary. It is sometimes known as Indian Jade.
