Some believe noni juice can treat lupus.
Tahitian noni juice has been touted as a miracle elixir that can cure a wide variety of maladies, including lupus. Sadly, the truth does not live up to the hype.
Noni Claims
NoniMania.com reports that the Noni juice distributors were making claims that the product was a cure-all for numerous diseases, including lupus.
Media Coverage
When caught in a sting by CBS news making these claims, the distributors could not provide any scientific proof of their claims, but would not admit that they were fraudulent.
Expert Insight
Dr. Jeffery Galpin, an immunologist who reviewed studies about noni juice, concluded that their claims could not be backed up and were blatantly false. At best, Tahitian noni juice helps support the immune system by providing antioxidants.
Legal Action
California's Attorney General issued an injunction against the company in 1998, forcing Noni to stop making claims that it could cure lupus and other diseases.
TNI Comments
Noni International officials say these distributors were breaking company rules. They prohibit distributors from making therapeutic or medical claims. Tahitian Noni International makes no claims on their official website, TNI.com, that noni juice cures lupus.
