What Does a Fibroid Look Like?
A fibroid is a growth found in the uterus. These growths are non-cancerous, but they can become quite painful or cause a lot of pressure. The location determines whether or not the fibroid will cause any problems. Some women are more prone to develop uterine fibroids. Women who have had surgery on their uterus are more likely to develop uterine fibroids as they get older.
Texture
The uterus is a muscle and fibroids arise from muscle cells contained within the wall of the uterus. The texture is firm, but soft in certain areas.
Density
Most uterine fibroids are very dense. The larger they get, the thicker they become. They almost feel like rocks inside the uterus.
Color
Fibroids are white or slightly pinkish. The color really depends on the flow of blood and location of the fibroid. A uterine fibroid closely resembles a tumor.
Shape
Uterine fibroids come in various shapes. However they mainly have a rounded appearance similar to a large clot. These growths attach to the uterine water and can grow bigger. According to the UCSF Comprehensive Fibroid Center at least 30 percent of women have uterine fibroids. Most women don't even know they have a fibroid unless it becomes a problem.
Size
Uterine fibroids vary greatly in size. Some fibroids are as tiny as a dime, while others can be as large as a cantaloupe.
