Natural Cure For Sinus Drainage

It is normal for sinuses to drain. Moisture produced in the sinuses routinely drains into the throat as a normal part of living. In most cases, this sinus drainage is normal and harmless. At other times, a bacterial infection or other agents may cause excessive or infectous sinus drainage. In these cases, it is important to act quickly so that the condition can be treated early. There are a number of natural cures that can help with just about any sinus problem.

Congested Sinuses

Drink tea to clear congested sinuses. The vapor from the tea clears the nose and after cleaning out the nose, the drainage will stop for some time. Use hot mint tea to drain the sinuses, clear congestion and ease pressure in the head. The hot steam from the tea also helps open the sinus passages.

Inhale steam from hot water in a container or take a hot shower. This creates the sauna effect and does the same job as a cup of tea. Or, bring a pot of water to a boil on the stove top, then breath in the steam. Add mint leaves to give the steam a more soothing feel.

Sinus Infections

Treat sinusitis early to prevent the infection from recurring. The sinus drainage that results from this type of infection can be bothersome and tiring. Consider natural cures for fighting this type of sinus infection.

Flush out the sinuses with salt water. Mix 1 tsp. of sea salt or non-iodized salt with 2 cups of water. Fill a shot glass with the solution and tip your head up with one nostril plugged, then pour a small amount of the solution into one nostril. Blow your nose gently and repeat on the other nostril.

Make a homemade inhaler if pouring seems too messy. Use a 1/4 tsp. coarse salt mixed with five drops of eucalyptus essential oil in a small glass vial with a lid. The salt will absorb the oil. Open up the vial and inhale whenever the congestion or the drainage starts.

Home Remedies

Take stock of the ingredients available in your kitchen, then consider what options are available for a home remedy to treat sinus drainage. Some remedies require only common kitchen ingredients. Mix 1 Tbsp. of lemon juice into 1 cup of boiling water. Add a small amount of honey to serve as a sweetener and drink while hot.

Consider making your own herbal tea blends at home. Blend echinacea and golden seal together. Stuff the mixture into tea bags or use inside a tea infuser. Steep the tea in hot water and sweeten to taste with honey. This will provide a healthy herbal remedy to help fight sinus drainage.
