Treat Bunions

Bunions are a common foot deformity that can be very painful and uncomfortable. They can also be embarrassing. The cause of bunions can vary, but they are commonly brought about by poor footwear. Shoes that do not fit properly are the main culprits. Treating bunions oftentimes requires surgery, but there are things you can do to reduce the discomfort.

Instructions

1. Elevate your foot. Doing so can help relieve pain. Simply find a comfortable place off the ground to rest your foot.

2. Apply ice. Ice can help relieve swelling and redness that usually occurs with a bunion. It is best to put the ice in a cloth or a bag and not place ice directly on your foot itself.

3. Wear footwear that fits properly. Avoid high heels or any other type of tight shoes. Improper footwear is what probably caused the bunion in the first place.

4. Purchase a bunion pad. You can find these at your local drug store. Be sure that you use it as directed.

5. Wear a bunion night splint. If you wear one while you sleep, studies show that your bunion will be straightened over time.

6. Consult a doctor. If the pain and discomfort continues, it is best to contact a doctor to seek further medical advice. Advances have been made in bunion related surgeries. Bunion surgery can be a relatively simple procedure.
