Shoelace Crafts

Make crafts with colored or patterned shoelaces.

There are many shoelace crafts that may be done with children to help them build fine motor skills. Shoelaces may also be used for decorative purposes on crafts. There are a variety of shoelace craft ideas, including lacing different patterns and decorating a crafted memo book with shoelace.

Lacing Cards

Many lacing cards are made out of board, but you may also use foam sheets to create a lacing card. Draw different patterns on the foam sheet, such as a heart, boot and star, and cut out the patterns. Use a paper hole puncher to punch holes around the rim of the patterns and use a shoelace to lace each card. When lacing is complete, hang it up for display or write a message on it to give to a friend.

Paper Bag Memo Book

You can craft and personalize a memo book using shoelaces to bind the cover and pages together. Take a large brown paper shopping bag and cover one side of it with a wrapping paper design you like. Cut the wrapping paper to size and glue it to the paper bag. When dry, fold the paper bag in half so that it is the size of a notebook. Place a few sheets of paper into the fold so you have paper to write on. Along the memo book's binding side, take a paper hole puncher and punch four holes, evenly spaced. Take a shoelace and thread it through the binding holes. Tie knots at each end of the shoelace and you have a memo book.
