Overactive & Difficult To Calm Children

An overactive child might be ADHD.

Children in general are more active than teenagers and adults, but overactive children can be difficult to calm when you need them to be quiet. A child with a hyperactive behavior might even have a mental disorder called Attention Hyperactivity Deficit Disorder.

Features

An "overactive" child finds it hard to sit still for more than a few minutes and may run around causing problems and being disruptive. Often, overactive children become more active and obnoxious when they receive attention for their misdoings.

Considerations

Persistent hyperactive behavior could be a sign of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), according to Parents.com. A proper ADHD diagnosis, however, requires a physician.

Tips

FamilyEducation.com recommends parents give overactive children a structured environment, with positive and negative outcomes for their behavior. Learn the signs that your child is becoming angry or overactive and teach them coping strategies.
