American Ginseng Benefits For Men

American ginseng has many positive health benefits.

For many, American ginseng sounds like a contradictory term. Ginseng has been used by Chinese medicine for thousands of years and has been adopted into the medicine practices of several other Asian cultures for almost as long. It has gained mainstream attention in the United States only within the last thirty or so years.

Asian ginseng's American cousin is very similar in nature, chemical composition and effects. As such, it is becoming increasingly common to find supplements made with American ginseng in health food and drug stores. The clinically researched and proven medicinal uses of American ginseng are many. It helps both men and women with conditions such as diabetes, anemia and heart disease, but it has a few uses that are specifically helpful to men.

Erectile Dysfunction

According to the Mayo Clinic, early studies and research on American ginseng indicate it may be useful in treating erectile dysfunction. While the Mayo Clinic is clear that further research and testing is required before definitive conclusions can be made, there are other studies indicating American ginseng has positive effects of blood flow, blood disorders and cardiac issues. Ginseng's ability to positively affect blood flow may be linked to its potential in erectile dysfunction.

Male Infertility

Again, the Mayo Clinic reports that studies have shown American ginseng has a positive effect on male infertility. Ginseng correlates with an increase in sperm count and motility. However at this point, researchers have not yet determined what amounts of ginseng are safest and most effective for this condition.

Premature Ejaculation

It seems American ginseng comes through for a variety of male sexual issues. A clinical trial showed that an external application of herbs, including American ginseng, was effective at staving off premature ejaculation. Unfortunately, ginseng was not used solely and further research is in progress to determine what its exact role was. Still, doctors feel that it had a part in the success and want to learn more.
