Lyme Disease symptoms can imitate other diseases and can be misdiagnosed. For this reason, the first symptoms of this disease can be different for everyone. Flulike Symptoms
The first signs and symptoms of Lyme Disease often starts with flulike feelings of headache, stiff neck, fever, muscle aches and fatigue. Many people do not recognize these as symptoms of Lyme Disease. The person with Lyme Disease might not know he was bitten by the tick that transmitted this disease, so this is can be the furthest thing from his mind.
Rash
A rash that resembles a bull's-eye may appear at the site of the tick bite. This is referred to as erythema migrans. It may occur within a couple of days or even weeks after the bite. Some people do not get the rash at all. This rash can start out small and progressively get bigger as days go on.
Fatigue
Earlier symptoms can be mild or may not appear at all, so the first symptom of Lyme Disease for some individuals could be profound fatigue. Feeling tired and rundown may be the first sign of Lyme Disease for many.
Fevers and Headaches
Severe headaches and fevers can be the first symptoms of Lyme Disease. This can be a hard diagnosis to make, especially if the person is not aware of having been bit by a tick. These fevers can get very high and have no other medical origin. The headaches are sudden and severe and have no apparent reasoning behind them.
Muscle and Joint Aches
The first signs of Lyme Disease can be joint and muscle aches and pains. Some become so severe that it is hard for the person to walk. The quick onset of arthritislike symptoms can be the first sign that you have Lyme Disease.
Major Organ Involvement
There are people for whom all the above symptoms go undiagnosed, and their first symptoms of Lyme Disease could be major organ involvement such as the heart. Irregular heart beats and a heart blockage can be caused by Lyme Disease. This does not happen until later stages of the disease, but if left undiagnosed this could be the first symptom that it is present.
