There are four accredited chiropractic schools in California.
Chiropractic is a form of health care that prevents, finds and treats problems with a patient's back and spine. It is mostly used by patients seeking relief from lower back pain. Education to practice chiropractic is mostly hands-on and students are required to complete clinical training. The American Chiropractic Association lists 18 accredited chiropractic schools in the United States and four are located in California.
Cleveland Chiropractic College- Los Angeles
Students at Cleveland Chiropractic College intern alongside clinicians who guide them as they practice spinal and extremity adjustment techniques. The clinicians also advise interns on diagnosis and treatment options. Once the internship is completed, students are able to work in a public health center. The four-year program is typically completed in 12 trimesters, but can be finished in 10 trimesters by accelerated students who would like to start work in the field sooner.
Life Chiropractic College West
Life Chiropractic College West is located in Hayward, California and offers the Doctor of Chiropractic Degree through hands-on training in 12 different techniques. Certain science courses are needed to be taken prior to being admitted into the program and can be completed at any accredited college. Life Chiropractic College West recommends that courses taken outside of Life University to fulfill their admission requirement are approved by them first. The college combines academic and hands-on training in 12 or 14 scheduled quarters. Senior interns are supervised by experienced faculty as they practice at Life West Chiropractic College's Health Center, which is open to the public.
Palmer College of Chiropractic
Palmer College of Chiropractic has one campus located in San Jose, California with two others in Florida and Iowa.The education provided combines classroom study, lab work and training in an outpatient clinic. The college currently operates five satellite clinics that offer services to socially or economically disadvantaged residents in the South Bay area in California. There is an emphasis on research and technological advances in chiropractic. The following degrees are offered: Doctor of Chiropractic, Master of Science in Clinical Research, Bachelor of Science, general science degree and Associate of Science in Chiropractic Technology.
Southern California University of Health Sciences, Los Angeles College of Chiropractic
Southern California University of Health Sciences is the first and only chiropractic school accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Each student completes 750 hours of technique training that combines instruction with hands-on learning. There are also 4,785 hours of lab work that must be completed. Students are given a variety of opportunities ranging from clinical rotations, health centers, work in private practices, volunteer work and research. These opportunities are offered as early as the first trimester.
