Treat & Prevent Stretch Marks After Breast Implant

Stretch marks are risks of breast implant surgery. Since your breasts will be larger after implant surgery, your skin will need to stretch to accommodate them. You can, however, reduce the likelihood of getting stretch marks if you employ various preventative measures. If you do experience stretch marks after breast implant surgery, you can also take steps to treat them, making them much less noticeable.

Instructions

1. Apply cocoa or shea butter to your breasts daily prior to surgery. Begin doing this as early as possible, ideally months before your surgery. These natural butters help to keep skin moisturized, thereby making it less susceptible to stretching and scarring. Dry skin is much more likely to scar from the stretching process.

2. Follow your plastic surgeon's aftercare instructions precisely. Do not attempt to rush your recovery after surgery. You should not perform physical activities for several weeks after surgery. If you rush your recovery process, you are more likely to experience complications such as stretch marks.

3. Spread scar treatment cream on your stretch marks. Most scar treatment creams contain natural ingredients such as onion extract that work to fade scars. Generally, you must apply such creams multiple times per day for at least 12 weeks before seeing results. You can find scar treatment creams available over-the-counter in most drug stores.

4. Massage your breasts daily. Begin doing this after your breasts have fully healed from surgery. Massage increases circulation, allowing blood and nutrients to more easily reach the skin, thereby preventing and improving stretch marks.

5. Consider laser treatments. Laser therapy is often used to treat stretch marks. The laser's light targets darker pigmentation in the stretch marks, effectively breaking them up. It also breaks up scar tissue and encourages collagen production so your skin will look younger and less damaged. Generally, several sessions are necessary to remove stretch marks.
