Immediate Relief

While treating gastroesophageal reflux, eliminate bitterness temporarily with mouthwash, frequent flossing and brushing, and gum chewing.

Natural Remedies

Apple cider vinegar, fennel seeds, anise and ginger root have all been used to treat GERD and the bitterness it causes in the mouth. A drink of equal parts honey, lemon juice and water can also alleviate the extra acid.

Changes in Diet

Avoiding alcohol, caffeine and acidic drinks like orange or tomato juice can lessen mouth bitterness. It is also better to eat small meals more frequently than three large ones.
