Prevent Tea From Staining Your Teeth

Tea is growing in popularity for its health benefits. However, people often ask about the potential for tea to stain teeth over time. Generally, if a substance can stain your clothes, it can stain your teeth. Follow these steps to prevent tea from staining your teeth.

Instructions

1. Rinse you mouth with water if you drink tea frequently. Sip water. Swish the water around in your mouth, making sure the water reaches all parts of your mouth. Rinse your mouth often to help remove tea stains from your teeth.

2. Drink iced tea. Hot beverages stain tooth enamel more easily than cold. Use straws to drink cold liquids as this will reduce exposure to staining.

3. Brush frequently. A toothbrush with a spinning head may be more helpful at removing stains than manual brushing.

4. Floss routinely. Teeth are often discolored around the edges where plaque tends to build up. Plaque is vulnerable to stain. So flossing teeth on a regular basis can help remove the plaque that causes discoloration.

5. See the dentist. Discoloration may be due to factors other than tea, such as decay and aging. A dentist can determine the best treatment for discoloration, and may recommend regular dental cleanings to help manage stains.

6. Whiten teeth to prevent tea stains. A dentist can provide bleaching or whitening treatments. Over-the-counter whitening products are another option. Use teeth whitening products that have met the American Dental Association standards. You can try whitening toothpastes, strips or gels.
