Diaper rash is no fun. I see natural ointments all the time that are fairly pricey--yet the ingredients are easy to find and the ointment itself is rather simple to make.
I typically use a double burner to make all of my ointments, which is a metal mixing bowl fitted over a saucepan that is filled a quarter of the way with water. When the water is heated, the steam gently heats whatever is in the bowl.
However, to make this super easy, I've provided instructions for using the microwave. I make ointments with the microwave as well, especially if I want to save time.
Instructions
1. Mix extra virgin olive oil and dried calendula in a microwave safe bowl until the flowers are submerged in the oil.
2. Microwave on low heat (if possible) for 2 minutes. If there is no low setting, microwave on high for 30 seconds.
3. Let the herb steep in the oil for 5 minutes and then strain into the second microwave safe bowl.
4. Add beeswax and microwave on high until beeswax is melted, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
5. Transfer to the airtight container and let cool completely before use. You may want to refrigerate it so it can harden more quickly.
6. Use a small amount on irritated skin complaints such as diaper rash and other skin rashes.
