Lemonade Detox Diet

You may have heard of the Master Cleanse. It is a diet that consists of consuming only lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water for ten to forty days. It is possible to detox using lemons and still continue to eat healthy foods. It is important to take a multivitamin to ensure you are getting all of the nutrients you need.

The Cleansing Benefits of Lemon

Lemons are a great internal cleansing agent. They purify the blood and help remove toxins from the body. The acidity in lemons stimulates digestion, helping waste elimination. Lemons also contain natural anti-bacterial enzymes. This helps clean the digestive tract of bacteria and parasites.

Lemon Detox Diet

Squeeze two fresh organic lemons. Add honey or maple syrup to taste. Honey and maple syrup can naturally sweeten the lemonade and provide vitamins and minerals. As in the Master Cleanse, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper. The pepper boosts the metabolism. Drink eight to ten glasses of the lemonade each day for about two weeks to cleanse the system. Eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as you want. Opt for organic produce, if possible, to avoid pesticides and toxins.

For breakfast, eat a high-fiber cereal. After that, only consume the lemonade drink and as many fruits and vegetables as you want until about 2 or 3 pm. You can have a quality protein bar or shake that is low in saturated fat. In the evening, take a laxative tea to help with waste elimination. Optionally, you may add Metamucil or a fiber supplement to your diet to encourage bowel movements and keep you from feeling too hungry.

Laxative Tea

Boil a teaspoon of broken licorice root in a cup of water for one hour. Strain the water to remove the root. Drink this before bed every night you are on the cleansing diet.
