Painting With Turmeric Paste

Turmeric powder is an appealing yellow-gold.

Used for thousands of years, turmeric -- most likely discovered in India -- remains popular to this day as both a dye and a spice. As a spice, turmeric is prized for purported health benefits; as a dye, it gives a rich yellow-orange color to fabrics, cosmetics and even Easter eggs. Mix turmeric into a paste for use as a strong, yellow-orange colored paint that's free from artificial chemicals or ingredients.

Instructions

1. Pour 1/2 cup water into the small saucepan.

2. Bring the water to a boil.

3. Add turmeric and stir until a thick paste forms.

4. Turn off the heat and pour the turmeric paste into the small jar for storage.

5. Let cool. Cover the jar and put it in the refrigerator if you do not intend to begin painting immediately.

6. Use a paintbrush, palette knife, toothbrush or any other tool you choose to paint with. Dip your painting tool into the turmeric paste, then apply the paste to the surface.
