The Best Natural Home Remedy To Prevent Scarring For Burn Blisters

Though painful and irritating, burn blisters are actually your body's way of naturally protecting irritated skin. However, burn blisters can cause scarring, so consider some at-home remedies, such as aloe vera or an antimicrobial cream, to help prevent scarring.

Treating Your Burn Blister

To help prevent scarring, do your best to leave the burn blister intact. According to "The Doctors' Book of Home Remedies for Women," the collection of fluid inside the blister is the white blood cells needed to fight infection and help with the healing process. If you have a smaller blister, the fluid will naturally absorb back into your body without causing any scars.

If you're experiencing a larger, more painful burn blister, do your best to keep it intact. If your blister does pop, make sure you leave the top flap of skin in place, as it will block out germs. Also, wash your blister with soap and water to eliminate bacteria. Once your blister is popped, apply an antibiotic ointment, such as Bacitracin or Polysporin. After applying ointment, cover it with a bandage to help keep it clean.

You could also try rubbing the juice from aloe vera leaves on a fully formed burn blister to help nourish and moisturize the skin. The aloe vera can prevent burn marks and scarring once the blister is healed.

The Mayo Clinic also says that the cream silver sulfadiazine helps kill bacteria and fungi on burn wounds. This medication is for more serious burns, and is available with a doctor's prescription.

When to See a Doctor

Though smaller burn blisters can be treated at home naturally and with little medical intervention, call your doctor if your blisters continue to be painful and don't seem to be healing well. Also, if your blister is showing signs of infection or you have a fever, you need to seek the help of you doctor. Signs of infection include pain, redness, swelling or a yellow crust on top of the blister.

Also seek help if your burn is larger than the palm of your hand.
