Use Tampon Hygiene

Tampons are a great alternative to feminine napkins and pads. They offer more freedom to participate in physical activities such as swimming and vigorous exercise, during menstruation. But good hygiene practices are necessary when using tampons for the benefit of yourself and others.

Instructions

1. Wash your hands frequently. Always wash your hands before and after you use a tampon. Washing your hands reduces the chances of introducing harmful bacteria into your vagina and keeps you from contaminating other surfaces with your bodily fluids.

2. Check each tampon. Before opening a tampon, verify that the wrapper is sealed. The tampon wrappers serve as a barrier from potentially harmful bacteria.

3. Change tampons frequently to maintain hygiene. Different brands of tampons have different recommendations. Follow the guidelines for the specific brand of tampons according to the package instructions. Never wear a tampon for longer than eight hours. It is not hygienic and you put yourself at risk for Toxic Shock Syndrome.

4. Get rid of tampon applicators in a hygienic way. After you insert your tampon according to package instructions, place the applicator back inside the tampon wrapper. Wrap the applicator and package in toilet paper and gently place it in a trash can.
