Get Rid Of Tarnish On Aluminum Doors

Tarnish is a form of corrosion that affects certain metals, including aluminum. The reason tarnish is formed is because of airborne chemicals. An aluminum door that is tarnished will lose its shine and become covered with a black and grey layer. Tarnish is easy to remove. Unlike rust, tarnish also does not destroy the actual metal.

Instructions

1. Fill a bucket with warm water and a mild dish detergent. Dip a cloth into the bucket. Wipe down the aluminum door to remove all dirt and debris. Rinse off the door with clean water.

2. Dip a steel wool pad into the bucket. Scrub the door with the steel wool pad until the tarnish is removed.

3. Remove any soapy residue from the door with a wet cloth. Dry the door with another cloth.

4. Rub the door with the shiny part of a piece of aluminum foil. Rub with enough force to bring out the shine in the aluminum.

5. Apply a commercial product that polishes aluminum to your door. Metal polishers are available at home improvement stores.
