Help Raise Funds To Find A Cure For Ms

You can make a donation to MS directly or get friends and family to support you.

According to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system (CNS) comprised of the brain and spinal cord. In the CNS, nerve fibers or axons are surrounded by a layer of insulation called myelin. Symptoms include weakness, fatigue, numbness, spasticity, loss of vision, problems with balance, bladder and bowel problems, tremors and depression. Your compassion and caring about this disease can be actively enhanced by participating in a number of ways to help national programs or through learning about and contributing directly to the various cures on the market.

Instructions

1. Donate a vehicle. If you have an extra, unused car taking up space in your garage, consider donating it to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

2. Attend a fund-raising event in your area that is focused on raising consciousness about MS. Gather other friends and family members to attend with you. Network with others who attend to find out specifics and the current status on cure efforts.

3. Ask your family and friends to support you in a particular event. Secure promissory donations, and collect once the event has taken place.

4. Hold your own event. A bake sale, yard sale or multi-family craft sale can bring in funds that you can then donate.

5. Pledge a regular monthly contribution to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or its support organizations.

6. Investigate the various drug companies that are researching actual medicine cures. Some of these companies include Biogen Idec, Bayer, Novartis, Teva Pharmaceuticals and Gilenya. The German pharmaceutical company Merck has been in the news recently because European regulators rejected its drug cladribine, feeling the benefits do not outweigh the risks. If you find a mainstream or alternative company doing work you support and truly feel is beneficial to the cause, consider making a direct contribution to the one of your choice.

7. Visit the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation national headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and discuss further ways you might be able to help.
