African Herbs That Stop Arthritis Pain

Close to 50 million Americans suffer from arthritis. If you have arthritis pain and are looking for herbal remedies, there are several African herbs that have been used to stop or reduce pain associated with arthritis. Those herbs include devil's claw, boswellia and horsetail.

Devil's Claw

Devil's claw, also known as Harpagophytum procumbens, is found in the Kalahari desert and savanna regions of southern Africa. Devil's claw has traditionally been used for many medical conditions, and can help reduce pain from joint diseases.

Boswellia

Boswellia, also known as frankincense, grows in northeast Africa. People have used it throughout history to reduce arthritis pain and suppress inflammation. The herb has other medical uses such as treating menstrual cramps and asthma.

Horsetail

Since ancient times, horsetail was used for healing wounds and treating kidney conditions and tuberculosis. People use the stems of horsetail today to prevent and treat osteoporosis and arthritis. Horesetail grows in North Africa as well as Europe, North America and Asia.

Herbs that reduce arthritis are available in many forms including capsules, herbal teas or liquids. They can also be used as compresses.
