Foods Allowed On Phase 1 Of South Beach Diet

There are many delicious foods allowed on phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. The only restriction is carbohydrates. Phase 1 lasts for two weeks and is the most severe phase of the diet plan. Generally speaking, you should expect to lose up to 12 pounds during this phase.

Beef

When following the South Beach Diet, choose from lean cuts of beef, such as sirloin, tenderloin, top round or eye round.

Vegetables

It is recommended that you eat 4 1/2 cups of vegetables each day during phase 1. Recommended veggies include cauliflower, Bok Choy, radishes and zucchini.

Seafood

During phase 1, you can enjoy any type of shellfish, such as lobster, crab, clams or shrimp.

Eggs

Enjoy eating whole eggs anytime during the first phase of the South Beach Diet, unless your doctor does not recommend you eat eggs. The use of egg substitutes or just egg whites is also allowed.

Cheese

Choose from low-fat or fat-free cheeses, such as American, cheddar, mozzarella or ricotta.

Nuts

When following the South Beach Diet, it is recommended that you only have one serving of nuts each day: almonds, peanuts, pine nuts or walnuts are suggested.

Condiments

It is recommended that you use condiments sparingly. However, minimal use of hot sauce, salsa, soy sauce and steak sauce are allowed.
