Become A Chiropractic Assistant

Chiropractic assistants have many administrative responsibilities.


A chiropractic assistant assists a chiropractor in many ways, keeping office operations running smoothly. You may help individuals who have been in a car accident fill out an accident report, verify health insurance benefits and file insurance claims, perform light medical transcription and assist in office clean-up, among other administrative duties. Not all states require, or even offer, formal training for this position, so it can be difficult to figure out where to begin.


Instructions


1. Enroll in a medical terminology course at your local college or tech school, which will give you a leg up on other applicants. Most chiropractor's offices require assistants to have at least a high school diploma and clerical experience.








2. Create a resume and a cover letter. Mention any experience you have in the medical field as well as any traits that make you a good candidate, such as compassion, intelligence, organization skills and a strong work ethic.


3. Search classified ad sites and other job posting sites for work as a chiropractic assistant. Many alternative health care practitioners list job openings on Craigslist.


4. Start networking. Tell everybody you know that you are interested in becoming a chiropractic assistant.


5. Visit chiropractor's offices in your area. Stop by with a copy of your resume and cover letter, and drop them off at the front desk. Try to target newer practices, where the chiropractor might be overloaded; chiropractors often try to do everything on their own, without an assistant, when they first open a practice.
