Use Benzoin Essential Oil

Use Benzoin Essential Oil

Benzoin essential oil comes from the resin of the Styrax benzoin tree, a native of Java, Sumatra and Thailand that grows up to 20 feet tall. The extracted oil is a thick, golden brown substance with a vanilla-like aroma. Benzoin essential oil is believed to have a variety of healing properties for both the mind and body.

Instructions

1. Calm, comfort and relax your mind with benzoin essential oil aromatherapy. Fill the bowl of an aroma lamp with warm water and add approximately ten drops of benzoin essential oil to the water. Light a tea light beneath the bowl and enjoy the calming effect of benzoin's sweet, aromatic vapors.

2. Soothe skin irritations including eczema, psoriasis, acne and cracked skin with benzoin essential oil's ability to improve skin's elasticity and ease discomfort. Dissolve 15 drops of benzoin per 1 oz. warm vegetable oil. Apply the mixture to ailing skin and massage gently.

3. Ease respiratory problems like coughs and congestion by inhaling benzoin essential oil. Add five to seven drops of the oil to a bowl of hot water. Position your head over the bowl and cover both your head and the bowl with a towel to capture the steam. Breathe normally under the towel until you stop smelling the benzoin oil.

4. Dissolve benzoin essential oil in your bath to ease muscle aches and pains. Run a hot bath and add 5 to 12 drops of benzoin. Swish the water around to disperse oil throughout the tub, and soak yourself to relax tense muscles. For added relief, pour a cup of milk or cream or a spoonful of honey into the water as well.
