Clean Crystal Glass

Clean Crystal Glass

If you have crystal glass, you have glass with lead oxide. The lead oxide helps the glass reflect light. That is why crystal is so brilliant to look at when you hold it up to the light. Some crystal is heavy because it has more lead in it. The heavier the piece of crystal, the more reflective the piece is, as well. Though crystal is heavy, it is also soft. You need to take care when cleaning crystal because crystal scratches easily.

Instructions

1. Wash the crystal before any food can harden onto the glass. This will avoid scratches on the glass, if you try to loosen the dried food.

2. Fill the sink with warm water, and a small amount of dish detergent. Too much dish detergent can cause residue on the glass. Place a strainer on the side of the sink along with a clean lint-free towel for drying.

3. Place the crystal piece in the warm water and dish detergent. Only put one piece of crystal into the water at a time to avoid breakage.

4. Wash gently using a soft cloth. Once you have cleaned the glass, rinse in warm water that has a small amount of vinegar. The vinegar will help stop water stains. Don't rinse in cold or hot water because the change in temperature could make the crystal crack or cloud the glass.

5. Wipe immediately to avoid any clouding or possible water spots. Store your crystal away from other dishes. Store glasses right side up.
