Find A Medical Optometrist

According to the California Department of Health Services, Medi-Cal is "California's public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals and families." Medi-Cal benefits include medical, pharmacy and vision coverage. If you are seeking vision services and do not know which optometrists in your area are included in your Medi-Cal benefits, it is very easy to find out by following a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. Consult your Medi-Cal Provider Manual. When you were approved for Medi-Cal, you were also given a provider manual, which includes which providers in your area are covered by Medi-Cal and the specifics of your benefits coverage. If you do not still have your provider manual, you can call your case manager and request a new copy.

2. Visit the California Department of Health Services' website at www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/Pages/VisionFindADr.aspx. This webpage will allow you to search for optometrists who are covered by Medi-Cal by location. Simply click on your county or city and a list of providers in your area will pop up. Each provider also has his contact information and location located next to his name.

3. Contact your local Medi-Cal office or your assigned case manager. Your local Medi-Cal office or assigned case manager will be able to give you a list of which optometrists in your area are included in your Medi-Cal benefits.

4. If you already have an optometrist, call his office and ask if he accepts Medi-Cal insurance. If he currently does not, he can register online to become one of Medi-Cal's accepted providers.
