Two Kinds Of Miracle Fruit

All miracle fruit comes in a grapelike form.

Miracle fruit is a term applied to several kinds of plant that offer unique medicinal results. Miracle fruit is not one kind of plant, however, three species of plants make it on to markets across the world: Synsepalum dulcificum, Thaumatococcus daniellii, and Gymnema sylvestre. Synsepalum dulcificum is one of the more popular plants and it usually receives the name "miracle fruit" in everyday speech.

Glycoprotein

All miracle fruits contain a common trait of having glycoproteins. Glycoproteins are chemicals that reduces the pH levels of acids. In practical terms, the glycoproteins bind to the tongue of the person, covering the tongue with these proteins. If you eat a food with a high pH level, like a sour or bitter food, you will the food will taste sweet.

Use

Miracle fruit is considered a miracle by people by the fact that all foods eaten after consuming a miracle fruit taste sweet. A person can eat a sour lemon after eating miracle fruit and the lemon will taste sweet to the tongue. Commercially, people can purchase the miracle fruit berries in stores, or they can buy tablets that contain the chemicals of miracle fruit. The effects of miracle fruit last around 30 minutes for many users.

African Based Fruits

Two of the most common miracle fruits both come from West Africa. Synsepalum dulcificum and Thaumatococcus daniellii, both from the general region of south West Africa, specifically in the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Ghana. Both of these plants have been considered miracle fruit since their use by Europeans colonizing Africa in the 1720s.

Indian Based Fruit

In India, there is one miracle fruit species called Gymnema sylvestre. In India, the miracle fruit historically has been used to treat a myriad of diseases and health conditions such as urinary tract infections. Arguably, across India's history, the miracle fruit helped people who became sick from high-sugar diets consume healthier foods like vegetables. Doctors would give the plant to patients, and after they ate the fruit, they could begin eating healthier and high-nutritious foods to regain their health.
