How Magnetic Therapy Works

Increased Blood Circulation

Magnetic bracelets, cuffs, pendants, mattress pads and shoe sole implants are placed on or near injured or diseased parts of the body. The metals in magnets attract like particles, such as iron, in the blood. When a magnet is worn on or near an injured or diseased body part, this attraction causes increased blood circulation. Many illnesses are associated with or affected by decreased blood circulation, including heart disease, diabetes, artery blockages, Raynaud's phenomenon and peripheral vascular disease. (See Resources below for scientific study on how magnetic therapy helps diabetic neuropathy.)

Pain Relief

Magnet-induced increased blood circulation allows more oxygen, hormones (including pain-killing hormones called endorphins) and nutrients to be delivered to tissues and organs. This in turn accelerates and enhances natural pain relief and healing. Unlike pain killers that temporarily block pain signals to the brain, magnetic therapy alleviates the cause of the pain by increasing endorphins and reducing inflammation.

Inflammation Reduction

The body reacts to an injury or disease by increasing blood flow and sending infection-fighting white blood cells to the affected area (an inflammatory process). This process causes extra fluid from dilated blood vessels to invade and damage cells, adding to the inflammation. Specifically, damaged cells have imbalanced ions (electromagnetically charged particles in the cell) that allow the extra fluid from the inflammatory process to penetrate them, pushing out valuable hormones, electrolytes and nutrients. Inflammation compresses the nerves which adds to the pain. Magnetic therapy reduces inflammation by realigning the imbalanced ions in cells, allowing them to heal. Traumatic injuries, osteoarthritis, neuropathies, fibromyalgia and autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis are associated with inflammation.

Detoxification

When white blood cells attack infections, they discharge toxins into the blood which the body stores in cellulite (fluid pockets) as it cannot safely excrete them. Magnetized blood helps draw out the toxins by attracting their positive charge as it runs through the tissue. The toxins are carried by the blood to the liver for detoxification (cleansing). The cleansed toxins are then purged from the body by the kidneys.
