Replace Light Bulbs In Old Vapor Tight Barn Lights

Vapor tight lights keep moisture and dust away from the bulbs in your barn.

Vapor tight barn lights use a mercury vapor bulb for bright lighting like a security light. Vapor tight lights are made for use in damp areas that contain moisture and dust. The globe has a rubber gasket around its perimeter to seal the bulb tightly inside from debris and moisture. When the bulb gives off a greenish light or buzzes loudly, it needs replacing.

Instructions

1. Turn off the light switch to the barn lights. Wait about 15 minutes to allow the light bulb to cool.

2. Place a ladder underneath the light fixture if it is needed to reach the fixture.

3. Loosen the screws in each side of the light fixture grill guard. Pull the grill guard straight off the fixture.

4. Turn the glass globe counterclockwise to loosen it, and pull it straight down to remove it.

5. Unscrew the bulb counterclockwise and pull it out of the fixture. Screw a new bulb into the socket clockwise.

6. Align the glass globe on the fixture and turn it clockwise to attach it. Align the metal grill guard over the globe and tighten each of the two screws on the sides to hold it in position.

7. Turn the barn lights on.
