Heal Chronic Foot Problems

There is a huge list of ailments that can cause chronic foot pain. However, there are some general treatments and care tips that nearly anyone can follow to reduce pain and keep their feet healthy. Unfortunately feet are quite often neglected until symptoms arise making the simple act of walking unbearable.

Instructions

1. Inspect your feet regularly. This is especially true for those that suffer from diabetes. Any growths that are spotted are not normal. Yellow toe nails, cracked skin and changes in skin colors could all be indicative of other more serious conditions.

2. Wash your feet regularly. This will reduce the presence of bacteria and reduce the chances of athlete's foot. Make sure you dry your feet well even between the toes. Moisture can lead to fungus building up.

3. Wear shoes that fit properly. Avoid high heels and pointed toes. Alternate shoes so your foot muscles become more flexible. Don't wear shoes after they have worn out. Wearing bad shoes can create several foot and lower back problems. They can also aggravate existing foot problems.

4. Soak your feet in warm water for 10 minutes two to three times per week. This will relax the feet and relieve some low level pain. Adding Epsom salts to the bath will help improve circulation which can also reduce pain.

5. Add Omega-3 fish oil or flaxseed oil supplements to your diet. According to the Mayo Clinic these essential oils reduce pain, swelling and stiffness associated with psoriatic arthritis. They also help enhance the abilities of other anti-inflammatories.

6. Use cold packs. Cold has a numbing effect on pain and can be used continually without worry of damage. The Mayo Clinic recommends placing a layer of mineral oil over the painful joints first. Then lay a towel over the skin and put the ice pack in place.

7. Exercise regularly. Exercise can relieve arthritic symptoms such as pain and fatigue. Use your own judgment as to how much you can do. If your feet are painful then let them rest.

8. Have a regular foot massage. Even a 10 minute foot massage with five minutes on each foot can help reduce pain, stiffness and can improve circulation. If there is no reflexologist available then a foot massager can help.
