Side Effects Of Pronamel

If you want white teeth today, you will not have any trouble finding a substance to do the job. Unfortunately, many people end up ruining their teeth's enamel in their attempts to reach that gleaming goal. Pronamel is one way to restore the hardness of the tooth enamel. Unfortunately, it does have a few side effects.

Time Frame

The problem of acid erosion occurs when the acid in things like carbonated drinks and citrus foods wears away the enamel of the teeth. Pronamel does harden the enamel that is left. However, if applied immediately after eating the acidic foods, the brushing application of the toothpaste can cause enamel scratching. The reason is that the acid on the enamel softens it before the erosion occurs. By waiting several minutes to a half hour after eating before brushing, you can get the true effects of the Pronamel.

Desensitization Concern

Potassium nitrate is the ingredient in Pronamel that works to desensitize the teeth while the enamel hardening takes place. The concern is that the numbing effects of these ingredients can mask tooth pain from sources other than thin enamel, like cavities. Pain is a function of the body that acts a warning the something is not right. In teeth, this pain signals cavities, infections and/or swelling. By masking the pain, you may not discover the real problem until it is too late to treat without consequences.

Saccharin

Pronamel does contain saccharin, a sweetener that was once thought to cause cancer. Many people still believe it does. In fact, the chemical is banned in several countries. Although the carcinogenic aspects of saccharin are still hotly debated, it is an ingredient in Pronamel.

Sorbitol

The sweetener sorbitol also comes with its own side effects. They include diarrhea, flatulence, cramping in the stomach, rectal bleeding and vomiting, among others. Sorbitol is used as a laxative, so naturally it has the same chemical effects on the digestive system.

Irritation

The toothpaste also may cause irritated gums and other parts of the mouth. This is usually caused by allergies to an ingredient in the toothpaste. Irritation and all other side effects will dissipate only after you discontinue use of Pronamel.
