What Is Rose Quartz

What Is Rose Quartz?

Rose quartz is a pink to rose-red form of quartz crystal. Contamination by iron or titanium may be responsible for the stone's color. Some stones also contain darker rutile "needles."

Location

Rose quartz is mined in many places around the world, including South Dakota and Brazil. Brazil is the largest supplier of rose quartz.

Function

Rose quartz is used in jewelry and as a decorative element. It is also a common element in crystal healing. A small number of cosmetics contain a form of rose quartz.

Metaphysical Uses

Rose quartz is one of the stones used to attract love in magic. In crystal healing, it represents love (both romantic and self-love) and healing the heart. It is one of the stones used in work with the heart chakra, as pink (along with green) is one of that chakra's colors.

Cautions

A form of "micronized" (finely ground so that the particles are only a few micrometers long) rose quartz is used in some lipstick. According to CosmeticsDatabase.com, there may be health risks associated with the use of micronized rose quartz.

Fun Fact

South Dakota's state mineral is rose quartz.
