Use Amla

Amla is the dried and powdered fruit from the Indian Gooseberry tree. Ayurvedic practitioners mix Amla powder with henna and other natural ingredients for healthy, shiny hair and to prevent hair loss. You can also mix Amla powder with a facial cleanser for use as a mild astringent and exfoliator. You can find Amla powder and other Ayurvedic supplies at health food stores and at retailers that specialize in Ayurvedic medicine.

Instructions

Hair Conditioner

1. Mash half an avocado in a ceramic bowl with a fork. Add 1 tbsp. honey and one egg yolk and mix until it forms a paste. Add the henna and Amla powder to the avocado and egg; mix well to incorporate all the powder. Let it sit for 15 minutes.

2. Apply the mixture to your hair while it is dry, and work it through from the roots to the ends. Stack your hair on top of your head and wrap your hair in plastic wrap. Put a knit cap over the plastic, or wrap your head in a towel to hold in the heat.

3. Let the conditioner stay in your hair for at least 20 minutes. Rinse your hair with warm water and wash your hair with a mild shampoo, such as baby shampoo.

4. Use a mild cream rinse to detangle your hair, if necessary. Style your hair as usual.

Face Cleanser

5. Put 1 tsp. of Amla powder in a small ceramic bowl. Add enough liquid castile soap to make a paste. Let the paste sit for 15 minutes.

6. Apply the paste to your face. Scrub in a circular motion for five minutes and avoid getting the soap in your eyes.

7. Rinse your face with a face cloth dipped in warm water. Follow by splashing your face with cool water.

8. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
