Negative Effects After Lipo

Negative Effects After Lipo

Liposuction is a popular procedure that involves the removal of fatty tissue from the body. The areas of surgery can be anywhere: the stomach, face, neck, inner thigh, legs, and so on. Liposuction is not a perfect procedure, and it comes with some possible complications. Knowing these side effects can help you with your decision should you embark on a body-altering operation.

Hemosiderin

Hemosiderin appears in 4 percent of patients as a brown pigment on the skin. This is from a production of iron material in the cells due to the breakdown of red blood cells. The increase in pigment is also due to inflammation in the area. This is a long-term side effect of liposuction in the inner thigh area.

Nerve Damage

Nerve damage occurs in 6 percent of patients due to the removal of the outer sheath of nerve cells that hold a fatty layer called myelin. As a result of the damage, the sensory nerves give patients a feeling of pins and needles as well as aching. Nerve damage can occur when suctioning the lower facial area, which affects the facial muscles. It has been reported that patients recover normally without any treatment and no long-term side effects.

Fat Fibrosis

Fat fibrosis, occurring in 4 percent of patients, is identified as small lumps and changes in skin texture. Patients report a feeling of "small sausage-shaped areas" appearing under the skin and right above the muscle. In addition, pain and discomfort can be felt at sites affected from fat fibrosis.

Blood Clots

Blood clots, also known as deep venous thrombosis, form in the deep veins of the pelvis or legs after a procedure. This appears due to excessive periods of immobility, allowing blood pools to form and ultimately resulting in blood clots. Standing frequently and flexing the feet can aid in blood circulation through your legs and lower extremities.

Necrosis

Necrosis is death or rotting of the affected skin area. This comes from excessive and superficial liposuction, such as from an ultrasonic probe, damaging blood supply or burning the surgical area. The damage done can cause partial or full-thickness necrosis on liposuction areas and can lead to other complications, such as infection, blood vessel injury, blood vessel inflammation and so on.
