Convert Food Labels Into Weight Watchers Points

Weight Watchers is one of the most popular diet plans around, with many success stories. The core of the Weight Watchers program is the points system. Each food is assigned a point value, depending on its calories, fat and fiber count. Each person is allowed a certain number of points per day. As long as you stay within your points every day, you should lose weight.

Instructions

1. Read the nutrition chart on your food label to get the necessary information for points conversion. There are three numbers that you need to note: calories, fat and fiber.

2. Use your Weight Watchers points slider for the most accurate calculation of points. Every member receives a points slider when they join Weight Watchers. To use the points slider, slide the calorie indicator up or down until the indicator line points to your food's calorie count. Slide the fat indicator up or down until it centers on your fat gram count. Look at the fiber count indicator and your point value will be indicated.

3. Use online points calculators to get the points value of food if you don't have your points slider available. There are quite a few calculators online. Fill in the form with the calorie, fat and fiber amounts, and the calculator will tell you how many points are in a serving of the food.

4. Do an approximate calculation if you simply need a points range on your food. This calculation will not give you an exact points amount but should be enough for most people to get an idea of the points range their food falls into. Take the number of calories on your food label and divide by 50. If the fat is more than 12, add one. If the fiber is more than the points you have so far, subtract one.
