Ayurvedic Beauty Treatments

A facial mask will improve your complexion.

Ayurveda is an ancient system of health and wellness historically practiced in India. Today, many portions of the practice, including yoga, massage and herbal medicine, have gained prominence in the Western world. There are also several beauty techniques that originated in the Ayurvedic tradition. You can make great Ayurvedic beauty treatments at home, using ingredients from your local health food store. Store these mixtures in your refrigerator if you don't use them all immediately.

Moisturizing Mask

Mix one tablespoon of orange juice, one tablespoon of lemon juice and one cup of yogurt. Apply to face and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off completely with a wet towel.

Facial Moisturizer

Mix one tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of cream. Apply to face and rinse off after a few minutes.

Almond Milk Cleanser

Soak 20 whole, raw almonds in water overnight. Peel the almonds, then blend in a blender with one cup of water until the mixture becomes liquid. Strain the liquid through cheesecloth. Add four drops of geranium essential oil, two ounces of rose hydrosol (or lavender hydrosol) and one ounce vegetable glycerin. Shake well before each use.

Simple Milk Toner

Dip a cotton ball or a face cloth in regular cold milk. Wipe all over face and neck.

Facial Scrub

Mix one part rice bran powder, one part chickpea powder, 1/4 part hibiscus powder, 1/4 part rose powder, 1/4 part sandalwood powder, and 1/4 part coriander powder. Store this in an airtight container. When you are ready to use it, take a small amount and moisten it with a few drops of water. Apply to face and neck to exfoliate the skin.
