Types Of Stone Crystals

Human have used gemstones and crystals for "magical" or "healing" purposes for centuries. The word "crystal" is derived from the Greek work for ice. Clear quartz was thought to be frozen water that would always remain solid. The human body contains quartz and silica, as do crystals. Crystals give off energy, as do people. Gemstones and crystals come in different types and are used for healing in a variety of ways.

Rough Gemstones

Amethyst crystals emitting protection.

Unaltered, natural gemstones mined from living rock are referred to as "rough" gemstones. They are said to have the greatest amount of "healing" power because they have not been changed in any way. A rough amethyst would have the greatest amount of protection and enlightenment power because of being unaltered.

Polished Gemstones

In order to attain a soft, smooth, rounded surface, a gemstone is polished with water and sand in a rock tumbler. Often they are referred to as "touchstones," which means that their healing properties can be accessed through the sense of touch. Holding, stroking or rubbing the gemstone will access its properties. Directly placing a polished gemstone on the body will also access its healing properties. A polished Blue Topaz is said to enhance clarity.

Jewelry

The zodiac sign of Taurus promoting hope.

Energy is contained in healing gemstones that are made into jewelry. The power of the stones can be strengthened by the precious metals and the various colors used in the jewelry. Gemstones are associated with certain desires such as passion, peace, good health, and prosperity. Each sign of the zodiac is associated with certain gemstones. Birthstone jewelry can be used to enhance your well-being.

Precious and Semi-Precious Stones

Rarity and economic value are the differences between semi-precious and precious stones. Precious stones are also known as "the popular gemstone". Precious stones are more rare and more expensive stones, such as diamonds and emeralds. Examples of semi-precious stones include agate and jade. Converting precious stones into gemstones for jewelry requires much more effort than converting semi-precious stones, which adds to their value. Precious stones also have greater aesthetic value.
