Acupressure Migraine Cure

Papyrus Migraine Therapy

Acupressure is an ancient Asian healing technique that combines acupuncture and massage therapy. Acupressurists apply pressure to meridians (invisible channels for energy)) throughout the body. Acupressure is used to complement other therapies for migraine sufferers (migraineurs).

Migraine

Migraines continue to baffle medical and holistic healing professionals. Migraineurs experience debilitating pain. Every migraineur experiences migraines differently. People with migraines long for treatment and prevention plans to allow them to return to fully productive lives. Not just another headache, a migraine can be life-threatening in the form of migraine-related stroke. Although the medical community continues to speculate about the cause of migraines, acupressurists claim to treat migraine causes.

Head and Foot

Try three simple acupressure techniques to ease migraine pain. Perform the following techniques in a cool darkened room. Sit comfortably. Mute sounds if possible. Apply consistent pressure all over your head. Holistic Online suggests massaging your head as if you are shampooing. Move your thumbs into place on either side of the base of your skull. Apply moderate pressure. Do not touch your spine. Lay your head slightly back. Maintain pressure, pushing upward toward your skull, for two minutes. Breathe easily, inhaling through your nostrils and exhaling through your mouth. Keep your eyes closed. Sit in a comfortable chair. Place a shoulders-high table about 8 to 10 inches in front of you. A TV tray will do. Leave enough room to bend forward. Apply deep thumb pressure upon "'the Gates of Consciousness points." Use both thumbs, pressing 2 inches out from the middle of your neck, just below the base of your skull. Bend forward. Prop your elbows on the table for support. Pressing firmly, close your eyes and practice deep breathing for 2 minutes. Use your thumb or the heel of your opposite foot to press against the ridge between your big toe and your next toe. Press and rub for 2 minutes. Breathe normally.

Hand

Often people experience migraine pain above or in one eye. Try the following technique to relieve such pain. With your thumb and forefinger, press the webbing between your opposite thumb and forefinger. Keep the latter two appendages together. Apply pressure at the muscle's high point with this configuration. Do as often as necessary.

Considerations

Consider yourself fortunate if acupressure alone relieves migraine pain. Acupressure is not a preventative migraine solution. Use acupressure in conjunction with other treatment and prevention plans. Seek the advice of a neurologist. Keep your specialist informed of the alternative methods you try and their effectiveness. With migraines, as with all ailments, get involved in the healing process.
