Physical Signs Of Low Testosterone

Approximately 5 million American men suffer from low testosterone, according to the National Institutes of Health. Low testosterone may be caused by normal physiological changes such as aging, or by diseases or conditions like cancer, genetic anomalies or inflammation of the testes. In addition to the psychological effects of this problem, there can be uncomfortable or embarrassing physical signs of low testosterone as well.

Sexual Impact

A significant physical sign of low testosterone is a decrease in sexual desire, and difficulty in--or inability to--have and maintain an erection.

Sperm Count

Men with low testosterone frequently experience a low or zero sperm count.

Gynecomastia

One of the outward physical signs of low testosterone is a condition called gynecomastia, or the abnormal growth of male breast tissue.

Health Conditions

If left untreated, low testosterone can result in elevated cholesterol and decreased bone density.

Extreme Low Testosterone

In cases of severely low testosterone, men may experience physical signs like hot flashes, a reduction in muscle mass or loss of body hair.
