Cope With Postpartum Backache

Postpartum backache may result from a number of causes. During pregnancy, weight gain may have contributed to prolonged strain of the back, as well as hormonal changes that may have caused ligaments to loosen. This article will provide tips to ease the strain and pull suffered during postpartum backache.

Instructions

1. Pay attention to your posture. If you have to stand, place one foot on a low stool to take pressure off your lower back.

2. When breastfeeding, raise your feet up as you sit up straight. Use a comfortable chair with breastfeeding pillows to support your back and arms. Position yourself properly when breastfeeding. Bring your baby to your breast and do not bend your back during feeding. Bend your knees when lifting your baby up.

3. Take a warm shower or bath. Use a hot pad to relieve back pain and muscle aches.

4. Use a carrier to carry your baby around. Avoid holding your baby in your arm for too long. Instead, ask your partner or a family member to help provide relief carrying the baby for a short period of time.

5. Ask your partner for a massage to help relax and ease the tension of back strain.
