Naturally Treat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
There are currently no prescription drug therapies specifically for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), although there is a wide range of medications which can help control the symptoms of the disorder. To avoid taking prescription medications completely, many patients have sought to treat the disease naturally with a regimen of nutritional supplements.
Instructions
1. Energize with nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). NADH encourages cellular metabolism. Low metabolism may be one factor in CFS. Supplements are widely available and appear to have minimal side effects and to be well tolerated with many prescription drugs. NADH is also found naturally in poultry, pink fish and red meat.
2. Scrutinize your diet. Avoid processed foods, carbonated beverages and alcohol. Eliminate caffeine and tobacco. Increase your intake of green vegetables, whole grains and water. Dramatically decrease your use of both sugar and artificial sweeteners.
3. Eat foods high in omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil and flax seed. The American Heart Association recommends omega-3 for heart health, but it is also found to improve mood.
4. Consider echinacea to boost your immune system. Echinacea has long been thought to help the body battle a variety of illnesses, particularly colds and flu, which many people believe may be directly related to the onset of CFS.
5. Use chamomile or lemon balm tea to treat sleep disturbances and for overall relaxation. Inadequate sleep and lack of deep sleep can heavily contribute to the exhaustive fatigue experienced by many CFS patients. Herbal tea at bedtime can increase the possibility of therapeutic rest. Melatonin tablets may also aid in sleep.
6. Supplement your diet with ginseng which may increase energy and diminish stress as well as have a beneficial effect on mood. St. John's Wort may also improve a person's mood but may interfere with the action of prescription anti-depressants.
