A few drops of olive oil could unstuff your ears.
A stuffy ear can be painful and annoying. It affects your ability to hear and your comfort level as well. The cause behind a stuffy ear could be earwax buildup, or it could be the result of a cold. If you are in an airplane when it happens, it could be due to high altitude. A few steps can help you get rid of a stuffy ear.
Instructions
1. Take a decongestant if your stuffed ear is due to a cold. A decongestant, such as Sudafed, can be found over-the-counter. It treats a stuffy nose, but a stuffy nose might also be causing your ears to be stuffy. Also, over-the-counter medicines that treat allergies might be helpful. Consult your health care provider or pharmacist about which medications may be the right fit for you.
2. Use olive oil if you suspect that earwax is the cause of your stuffy ears. Warm up the olive oil by holding the medicine dropper in your hands and then gently pour a few drops in your ear. The olive oil will soften the wax that has built up inside your ear. Let the oil sit in your ear for a few minutes before turning your head to let the excess drip out. Take a towel and clean off the excess oil on the outer ear.
3. Put a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ear using an eardropper following the same steps as used for the oil. Do not use hydrogen peroxide if you think you have an ear infection.
4. Consult your health care provider if you are unable to relieve the stuffiness in your ear at home.
