Basement subfloor construction and insulatiing

Basement Subfloor Construction and insulatiing

I am considering framing out my basement subfloor with a 2 X 3 or 2 X 4 Wood Stud framing. Once the framing is done i was thinking of laying down a 1/2 or 3/4 plywood and then indoor / outdoor carpet. I live in NY and my basement is dry. I wanted to know is do I have to insulate the basement floor slab with something like drylock before I start constructing the 2 X 3 wood stud framing and is the airflow underneath the subfloor framing enough to avoid any mositure build up? Any comments are appreciated. Thank you. Why would you build a wood floor? Is there something wrong with the concrete? Airman's right, Unless your slab is totally messed up you're much better off installing your carpeting directly over the concrete. We use a good quality commercial grade carpeting with a short pad. This seems to work the best. Also, don't bother to Drylock the floor. I'm pretty sure the manufacturer does not recommend this and anyway, it's not needed. Frame your walls with 2x4's so you can get your insulation in adequately. The reason I would take on a project is i have been in 2 basements that have a 2x3 wood frame subfloor with carpet and padding and the feel when you walk on it is soft and comfortable. I was concerned about sealing the floor before i start and is this type of flooring high enough to give the floor enough airflow? You will find some discussion on why concrete needs to breathe in the link below. http://www.eere.energy.gov/buildings...s/db/35017.pdf Bud
