Do A Hair Pouf

Style your hair quickly and easily into a fashionable hair pouf.

A hair pouf--also known as a hair hump or hair bump--is a quick and easy hairstyle anyone can achieve. Regardless of what length or thickness of hair you have, you can do a hair pouf in your hair. The style involves a bit of teasing or backcombing in the hair and works with any hairstyle to get more volume than your hair gives you naturally. You can create a hair pouf and style your hair in ponytail, side-swept bun, messy updo or even leave it loose.

Instructions

1. Shampoo and condition your hair. For the best results, wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo and only apply conditioner to the very ends of hair. This ensures you get the most volume and height in your hair pouf.

2. Blow-dry your hair with a round brush. This helps add body to your hair and keeps it from falling flat, even on thin lifeless hair.

3. Tease the top section of your hair. The width of this section can vary, depending on how much hair you want included in the hair pouf. For the basic hair pouf this should include between 2 to 5 inches of hair across the front top part of your head. To tease hair, work in 1-inch sections at a time, spray downwards onto each section of hair with hairspray and move a fine-toothed comb up and down the first few inches of the hair in deep, slow strokes. You may need to repeat this process a few times on each section of hair to achieve the desired fullness.

4. Pull the teased section of hair towards the back of your head, tousling your hair gently with your fingers to smooth the hair slightly.

5. Push the section of hair up slightly to get more volume in the hair. The more forward you push the hair, the higher the pouf will go.

6. Secure the hair pouf with bobby pins, ensuring the top and sides of the pouf are balanced and smooth. The goal is to achieve volume in the pouf without it looking messy or knotted.

7. Mist hairspray onto the hair to set the style. This helps keep the volume in your hair and prevent the pouf from falling flat.

Tips Warnings

If your hair is especially fine. you may want to try the hair pouf style on slightly dirty hair. The natural oils that build up in hair between washes can help add volume when teasing the hair.

Teasing the hair too often can cause breakage. Try to avoid teasing hair too frequently and condition hair with a nourishing deep-conditioning hair treatment at least once a month to keep hair from getting damaged.
