Recycle Plastic Hangers

Recycle Plastic Hangers

You spent years collecting hangers for all of your clothes, but now you have too many hangers and they are cluttering up your closet. Now that you realize that you have too many hangers, you want the superfluous ones gone immediately. Since there is nothing wrong with the hangers, you should resist any temptation to throw them in the garbage can or recycling bin. Instead, you should find these hangers a new home where they can once again serve an important purpose.

Instructions

Use the World Wide Web

1. Go to either craigslist.org or freecycle.org.

2. Click on your location.

3. Create a posting with the number of plastic hangers you wish to give away. Be sure to include a way for interested parties to contact you.

4. Place the hangers in a paper bag or cardboard box. When someone responds to the posting, arrange a time and place for the person to pick up the hangers.

Make a Charitable Donation

5. Call local charities to see if they can use or sell plastic hangers.

6. Gather the hangers and place them in a paper bag or cardboard box once you find a charity that will accept them.

7. Take the hangers to the charity and hand them to an employee or volunteer.

Tips Warnings

According to an article by Steven Kotler of FOX News, hangers can be made of seven different types of plastic and the machines at recycling centers are not equipped to separate the different plastics. Sadly, items that cannot be processed by the machines often end up in the local landfill. Even if you put the hangers in the recycling bin, they are likely to end up at the dump.
