co2/argon bottle
right now im using fcaw on a lincoln mig, but have the regulator and everything for gas. Im told gas is alot easier to get pretty welds on 22 gage sheet steel ( which i tend to burn through using .035 flux core) Whats the best wire size for 22-20 gage sheet metal? ive got .030 and .023 and .035 but have only worked with .035 on building a welding cart (thicker steel)? How much are bottles of gas co2/argon mix? and what sizes do they come in? The only local welding place wont be open until monday ( they are are open 10-3, nice) Thanks for help-Josh If you use 75% Argon and 25% CO2 you will not have as much penitration as if you used only CO2 as a shelding gas. There are a lot of diffent sizes of cylyinders I think the most common for home use if a 40cf. I really dont know how much refill's of gas are because I get mine fee at work. i think penetration is less of an issue than keeping tip cooler, welding mostly 22 gage sheet metal. Thanks-Josh My supplier's last price list shows $18 for 20 cu ft and $22 for 40 cu ft on 75% argon 25% co2 binary mixes (ARGOMIX225, COOGAR500). I want to reverse the polarity of the gun using gas right? switch so gun tip is - ? Thanks-Josh DCEN (-) is only used with emissive electrodes (ASW E70U-1) that are very rare. The argon is not to keep your tip cooler, but to prevent deep penetrating welds. Helium with Argon with small wire would be even better for a fast shallow weld. Welding thinner than 14ga metal is not recommended with MIG welding. If you must go with MIG use .23 wire. You might get some ok results, but don’t expect a TIG quality. Hi josh, I recomend you to use 75/25 and .023 mig wire, if you start to burn through use a method called stich welding, Start by tacking it together, and instead of pushing your weld you want to pull your weld and pulse the trigger on and off and work off your weld and then pull onto the thinner pc. and be patient, take your time and I bet you will find this method works. Good Luck. I found out by accident that when my 20cf bottle of 75/25 ran out and I hooked up a CO2 tank from a soft drink set up to finish a job, the welds were just fine. A problem I have here in a rural area is cost. I pay $60.00 CDN/yr to lease the cylinder and about $65.00 for the contents. The CO2 cylinder I already have and the local soft drink dealer charges me $20.00 for a refill. It also lasts a long time because the CO2 is liquefied. Do any of you have to pay a lease charge? I have been getting fee fills for quite a while so I am not sure what the going rate is of 75/25 is. But I bought a “K” (250cu/ft) cylinder new for 300$ with the valve. I don't what the us Canadian exchange rate is, but I think if you plan on welding for a few more years you will end up saving money, if you get your own cylinder I'm located in Northern Canada, a six and a half hour drive from my home city, so dealing at a large supplier is not practical. I really have no choice but to deal with our local supplier who offers really no options. I own several B acetylene cylinders for brazing and keep a PF size oxygen for occasional cutting. I cleaned house and cancelled my leases on a large oxygen and acetylene, a 75/25 mix, an argon and a CO2 syphon all at $60.00CDN/yr EACH! I only lease a PF oxygen (same size as a B tank), and a small nitrogen and own my own B tanks and CO2. If I have a big job though, my dealer will give me the cylinder for 30 days without a lease. I'm going to the city for Easter, so maybe I'll check out my long distance options. Wow! that adds up in a hurry. I would make an effort to buy you cylinders in the “city” and just buy your gas locally That won't work either. Other than B and MC acetylene they will not take cylinders from anywhere else. (Do you use the same id for the small acetylene bottles?) I'm gonna find out what the contents cost in the city first and then take it from there. BTW, when you purchase a cylinder, do they fill it and return the same one, or is it handed over to an exchange program? Most of the time we call small acetylene bottles “pony bottles” You can tell why if you look at the chart there are many names for the same bottle. I always got my same bottle back when I got it filled, but now I get mine filled at work. i bought a 40# cylinder of c25 for about $100 an my refills are $24
