Convert A 36 Volt Golf Cart From 6 Batteries To 3 Batteries

Golf carts offer the benefit of running off rechargeable batteries instead of burning fossil fuel, but the batteries eventually require replacement. If you have a 36-volt golf cart that runs on six 6-volt batteries, you can replace them with three 12-volt batteries, which often are easier to find.

Instructions

1. Disconnect and remove the six 6-volt batteries from the golf cart.

2. Arrange the three new 12-volt batteries in the battery compartment of the golf cart so that the jumper cable can span the distance between the positive and negative terminals of adjacent batteries.

3. Assign a number (1, 2 ,3) to each of the batteries for the purpose of following the description of the connection process. Connect a jumper cable between the negative terminal of battery #1 and the positive terminal of the battery #2 by sliding the connectors on each end of the jumper cable over the terminals and tightening down the nuts securely.

4. Connect a jumper cable between the negative terminal of battery #2 and the positive terminal of the battery #3.

5. Connect the positive lead from the golf cart to the positive terminal of the battery #1 and the negative lead from the golf cart to the negative terminal of the battery #3 to complete the job.
